Borknagar Splits With Vocalist Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund

Norwegian progressive black metal outfit Borknagar has announced that they have parted company with vocalist Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund. A statement from the band reads as follows:

“Due to personal reasons, Andreas ‘Vintersorg’ Hedlund has decided to step down as the lead vocalist of Borknagar. The decision is based on mutual understanding, respect and in a friendly manner with the rest of the band. Borknagar would like to express their sincere gratitude for the musical brotherhood we have shared throughout the years and wish Andreas the very best in his future endeavours. There is no drama to this situation, and our friendship will remain. No one should be too surprised if Vintersorg reappears as a guest vocalist on a future record.

“As a natural consequence, I.C.S Vortex will take a step forward into the role as the band´s lead vocalist, and will, together with Lars Nedland, carry on Borknagar’s legacy of vocal brilliance.”

Hedlund himself has checked in with the following message for fans:

“Time has come to make some tough decisions and let reality set the rules. It is with both a light and heavy heart I leave Borknagar as the lead vocalist. The light part is that it´s done in an amicable way and that this is the right thing to do for me, in respect for the fans and Borknagar. The heavy part is that it’s hard to leave something this meaningful and beautiful. My situation after the accident makes it hard to tour, and my job situation complicates things further. So in a way I’m not ‘leaving’ as such, it’s more like I’m putting some oil into the Borknagar machinery so the band can keep their busy schedule, get out on the road and meet you guys. Borknagar will always have a special place in my heart and mind, and I hope that I can do some guest performances further down the road. The guys in the band are fantastic musicians and persons and I wish them the best of luck. However, Cronian is not dead and may shake its head before you know it.”

Meanwhile, founding member Øystein Brun stated:

“It is with a lot of respect, gratitude and good memories I see one of my brothers in music set sails for new shores. Times are changing, and we both saw this coming for a while. Even though we are splitting as partners in Borknagar, I am happy to say that we have decided to carry on our musical brotherhood in Cronian. A new album will be released whenever time allows for that.”

Borknagar are currently putting the finishing touches on their new studio album, which will be their first since the 2016 effort, “Winter Thrice” and their eleventh overall.

Hark is now streaming the second new track taken from forthcoming album, “Machinations.” The track, an overdose of dynamic heavy rock titled “Disintegrate” is available below. Regarding the track, Hark founding member Jimbob Isaac comments:

“Disintegrate is a multi-layered response to odorous people and insidious systems, who aim to destroy you in every day life. This was the first song that Joe (Harvatt) put his lead guitar work to, during the writing of ‘Machinations’ and he melted my mind with his skills. This is some of my favourite lead guitar of all time, seriously.”

Update On New Album “Prometheus” Issued By Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody

Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody posted a new update on the upcoming release “Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus,” which is slated for Spring 2015.

The update reads: “After more weeks of hard work and sleepless nights we can give you a new update about the production of the new Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody album entitled: “Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus”

“After 6 months of intense work, we are at the final stage of the production. Our drummer Alex Landenburg just started recording his parts and knowing his skill and incredible talent we can guarantee a breath-taking percussive performance!

“Luca Turilli just ended the recordings of his guitar parts in France. As usual, he recorded his lead and solo parts by himself using the Eleven Rack from Avid and the Protools software installed on a Mac laptop.

“Turilli commented: ‘When I compose the songs and work on the orchestral arrangements I need to be in my home studio in Trieste (Italy), using my super orchestral template based on 3 x dual Xeon PCs, 12 x SSD and Cubase software. But for the guitar solos I like to rely on a simple laptop and my faithful Eleven Rack, which allows me to record my parts (regular audio track + contemporaneous DI signal to be re-amped later) wherever I want in the world and with total freedom.’

“Luca is now back in Italy to work on the last orchestral and cinematic arrangements.

“Since some days Dominique Leurquin started recording his lead guitar parts in Annecy (France) and should complete his task before the end of the month. You will be really amazed by the feeling and the ‘touch’ of one of the most expressive guitar players around nowadays!

“The mix of the album will start on January 3rd in Kempten (Germany) at the Backyard Studios of Sebastian Roeder, the faithful Rhapsody’s top level engineer who is taking care of the sound of the band in the studio and on stage too.”

Much more news on the album is expected soon.

Shin To Shin Streaming New Album’s Title Track

A389 Recordings this week confirms the pending release of the debut LP from Shin To Shin, the side project of guitarist Aaron Melnick.

You can hear the title track off the self-titled album below, courtesy of Lambgoat.com. The following press release was also issued about the album:

“Aaron Melnick’s name is most often associated with the mighty Integrity, having been the lead guitarist for some of their most seminal releases including Those Who Fear Tomorrow, Systems Overload, Humanity Is The Devil and Seasons In The Size Of Days, in addition to contributing vocals, taking part in the arranging, recording and production of said records and much more. His blazing, divebomb-infused solo style seems directly descendant to Metallica and some of the earliest Bay Area thrash heroes, yet fueled for a more deplorable, clenched-fist audience.

“Melnick also formed In Cold Blood with his brother, bassist Leon Melnick, after the pair left the ranks of Integrity in the late ’90s and remains active with several projects including Inmates, Die Hard and others, including his own Shin To Shin.

“With little more than a split 7″ with now defunct Pulling Teeth, until now, Shin To Shin will release its self-titled LP on February 7th via A389, who also released the split EP in 2010. Merging the bottom-dredging influence of European death metal icons Bolt Thrower, Asphyx and Grave with the no-bullshit hardcore hostility of the Cleveland scene he grew up in, STS is 110% the brainchild of Aaron Melnick, the man having fully conceived and written all music for the act to date, and has performed every instrument of the split 7” and recently completed Shin To Shin LP, minus drums, even taking the lead on the recording and mixing of the album at Cleveland’s Mars Studio.

“The album delivers eight crushing and diverse anthems with a lot of throwbacks to the early ’90s metal and hardcore scenes, and today the public gets a whiff of the action.”
