Ross Dolan Comments On Working With Gospel Of The Witches

In a new video clip available online, Immolation’s Ross Dolan speaks about his role in Gospel of the Witches, the new project fronted by vocalist and visual artist Karyn Crisis (Ephel Duath). Check it out below.

Gospel of the Witches features the pairing of Crisis’ and Dolan’s voices in what Crisis terms a “death choir.”

She has stated, “As a testament to Ancient Ways and the union of opposites, I explore the feminine power in my voice on this album and couple it with Ross’ intensely masculine vocal power to create a consistent theme of thickly layered vocal choruses.”

Dolan describes the project as “dark, haunting, very creepy, very cool stuff… something big and epic and multi-layered.”

Gospel of the Witches’ lineup is completed by Ephel Duath mastermind Davide Tiso on guitar and bass, and Intronaut’s Danny Walker on drums.

The recording of the 13-song debut album begins in June with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) at The Basement Recording NC. The album will also contain a guest appearance by Mike Hill, frontman of Tombs. You can take part in the creation of the album by joining the crowd funding campaign right here.

Karyn Crisis Launches Kickstarter For Solo Project Gospel Of The Witches

Karyn Crisis (Ephel Duath) has launched a crowd funding campaign for releasing her new solo album under the name Gospel of the Witches. Ephel Duath’s Davide Tiso, who also appears on the project, has issued the following statement:

“Plotting, composing and putting together Karyn Crisis’s solo project Gospel of the Witches spanned a five years period that literally changed our personal and musical lives. During this time we saw this album grow in different exciting directions and many shapes, we finished putting dozens of different dresses on it.

“One thing never changed: its soul. This album has its own peculiar and demanding will and it revealed itself to us little by little, riff after riff. Lately, after a bursting phase of musical inspiration that lasted a few months the 13 songs that we are about to record were nailed. Today it is with great excitement that we reveal to you some details about this very special piece of work.

At the Kickstarter page here, Karyn has few things to say to you. What I feel to add is that I’m proud and blown away by what we accomplished: these songs show Karyn Crisis at her very best. There are not so many artists quite like her, let’s support and celebrate together Karyn Crisis’ new wonderful adventure.”

Ephel Duath Issues Album Recording Update

The 6th full-length album from avant-garde metal band Ephel Duath will be released in spring 2013 via Agonia Records. The album title as well as album artwork have been set and will be revealed later this year.

The follow up to the “On Death and Cosmos” EP (reviewed here) will introduce a line-up change in the rhythmic section. All bass parts have already been recorded by Bryan Beller (Mike Keneally, Steve Vai, Dethklok, The Aristocrats, James La Brie, Dweezil Zappa) in replacement of Steve Di Giorgio. Marco Minnemann returns playing drums for Ephel Duath, which according to a press release “brings the creative relationship between drums and guitars to a dynamism never reached before by the band.”

“Ephel Duath’s new album is the musical statement I wish this band will be remembered for,” comments Davide Tiso (founder/guitarist). “All I’ve learned or not learned musically, all I’ve always wanted my lyrics to be, live and breathe in these eight new songs. This album holds together all that Ephel Duath’s music has touched in the last fifteen years and pushes its boundaries even further. I feel that a whole new expressive world is opening up to me and this band. My intent is to blindly follow this recent path and to bring Ephel Duath to higher and higher levels of intensity, riff after riff, song after song, with patience and obstinacy, an open heart and dedication.”

In January Ephel Duath will enter Mana Recording Studios is St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan to record guitars and vocals and to mix the album. At the moment the band is busy putting the last touches on what will be the final guitars and vocals tracks. The band’s current recording line-up is:

Karyn Crisis – vocals
Marco Minnemann – drums
Bryan Beller – bass
Davide Tiso – guitars
