Launches video for title track

After 1 week of letting fans vote on their new album name, Italy’s Destrage has announced the true title of their fifth full-length: The Chosen One – which will be released May 24th via Metal Blade Records. The trailers for the fake album names can be viewed below:

For a preview of the album, a video for the title track can be seen now at: – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–light yellow vinyl / includes CD (EU exclusive – limited to 300 copies)
–pink / blue marbled vinyl / includes CD (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–multi-color splatter vinyl / includes CD (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)
–light pink marbled vinyl / includes CD (US exclusive – limited to 300 copies)
–violet marbled vinyl / includes CD (US exclusive – limited to 200 copies)

As with all of their previous efforts, Destrage make it impossible to pigeonhole their sound, with numerous labels applicable to the record but no single one able to tell the whole story. Moreover, from start to finish, The Chosen One seethes with an energy that is undeniable. “I strongly believe in the power of the people, and energy came from those who worked on this album, from the band, the producers, through to the mixing and mastering engineer. There was a lot of energy in the whole project, and that’s the most important thing to me,” vocalist Paolo Colavolpe enthuses. The record also sees the band once more experimenting, taking risks and exploring territory they have not previously entered into, demonstrating a fearlessness when it came to chasing ideas – and almost half the songs are in a completely different guitar tuning. A pair of unique tracks also bookend the record, the title track and “The Gifted One”, their relationship obvious as they came together in the writing stage. Explains guitarist Matteo Di Gioia: “The song ‘The Chosen One’ is brief, has no repetitions and an unresolved structure. The unexplored, unrepeated sections of that unwrap with more patience on ‘The Gifted One’, which also has an uncommon structure, but in the opposite sense. Here we have a long, pacing, reflexive closing song that shares many elements with the opener but feels completely different.” Further adding to the heady mix is the incorporation of extra instrumentation, among these a baritone saxophone and something the band nicknamed MEGATRON, which is essentially “a badass synthesizer playing guitar riffs together with the human guitarists. Like the saxophone, it’s set to disappear and fuse with the guitars to achieve a slightly unreal sound, and we knew we didn’t want these extra sounds to emerge and be obvious. Instead, we really looked for the listener to experience the ‘What the fuck is that sound?’ effect.”

A smattering of guest musicians also contributed to the album, with “master of evil” Luca Mai of ZU providing a wild saxophone solo on “Mr Bugman” and dubbing the main riff of “At The Cost Of Pleasure”. Jazz musician Fabio Visocchi added keyboards to “At The Cost Of Pleasure” and “The Gifted One”, while Fabrizio “Izio” Pagni produced the electronics and handled the programming. Produced by Matteo “ciube” tabacco and Destrage at Raptor studios, plus mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur, the recording process proved to be both rewarding and thrilling for the band, who were unable to physically be in LA with Wilbur, but were involved every step of the way. Admitting to being a little intimidated at the thought of working with such a “hot producer” initially, the collaboration was nothing but fruitful: the first mix great, the second better, but they persisted, with the eighth run making it onto the record to everyone’s satisfaction. “We were talking every day on the phone, sending messages back and forth and Josh said to us, ‘Hey! I don’t have a deadline. We mix this until it’s fucking great. My goal is having everybody jumping up and down to this record!’ And he kept his word.”

Fleshgod Apocalypse Reveals New Album “Veleno” Details; Posts New Music Video “Sugar” Online

Italian orchestral-death metal and renaissance revivalists Fleshgod Apocalypse will make their triumphant return this year with the release of their fifth studio album, “Veleno,” on May 24th via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band has unveiled the record’s debut single, “Sugar,” via a music video, the album artwork and track listing. You can check out the video for “Sugar” below.

Francesco Paoli on working with director Giovanni Bucci: “I met Giovanni Bucci a couple of years ago, while collaborating on his own band ODDKO. We soon became good friends, so we started talking about having him as director for Fleshgod’s new videos. He is a true visionary, with amazing directing and production skills. He’s been making music videos for bands like Korn, and he also has a shining career in the movie industry. We all agreed that he would’ve been the key to a huge step forward for us, visually and artistically, especially on a video like this, which was also extremely complex to produce and shoot. The result is on your screen now, and it’s better than any description. Just hit the play button and enjoy.”

Italian for “venom,” “Veleno” marks Fleshgod Apocalypse’s first record in 3 years, since the release of their critically acclaimed record “King” (2016). The ‘metal part’ of “Veleno” was recorded in Rome, Italy at Bloom Recording Studio and Kick Studio with long-standing collaborator Marco Mastrobuono, while the ‘orchestral part’ – the ensembles – were tracked at Musica Teclas Studio in Perugia. Fleshgod Apocalypse then took the effort over to Grammy-nominated Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, The Black Dahlia Murder, Epica) at Hansen Studios in Denmark for mixing and mastering. The entire production of “Veleno” took, according to Paoli, about three months. Artwork for the album was created by Travis Smith (Avenged Sevenfold, Opeth, Katatonia).

Francesco Paoli on “Veleno”: “Today is the day. A first taste of our new album, ‘Veleno,’ is finally available for you all. No words can describe how excited we are and how long we waited for this moment. What you see is the harvest of three years of sweat, revolutions, intense emotions and extreme challenges. We proved ourselves to be stronger than ever, despising compromises, setting the bar higher no matter what. The album is massive to say the least. Every song is a unique piece, literally alive and breathing. Can’t wait for you guys to hear the rest…”

Nibiru Reveals New Album “Salbrox” Details

Italian doom metal outfit Nibiru has announced that they will be releasing a new album entitled, “Salbrox” through Ritual Productions this May, with a release date to be confirmed shortly.

Titled “Salbrox,” meaning “Sulfur” in the Enochian language of which the band profess, the rite is a cataclysmic psychic journey of visionary magick, elemental prophecies and esoteric supernormality. Tribal percussion, evocative mantras and hypnotic drones imbued with the band’s amalgamation of black metal, doom metal and psychedelic textures formulates a fascinating, idiosyncratic art. Vocals harbour a possessed and rasping quality that surely summon spectres far beyond our comprehensible realm, bringing forth a divination of the self.

Conceptually and spiritually, “Salbrox” is inspired by the continuous re-adjustment between disharmony and balance. “Salbrox” aims, via mysterious and enigmatic practices that reflect an ouroboros quality of death of rebirth, to explore the transmutation and regeneration of the human being that occurs at every level – spirit, soul and corporeality.

In turn, the alchemical practice of “Solve et Coagula” – meaning to dissolve and coagulate – is the foundation of “Salbrox.” This ethos points towards the liberation of the self from impurities and the destruction of the Ego, bringing forth an alternative awareness and synthesis of the self. The rite is thus a magick process that follows the key principles of alchemy, merging deep, ancestral knowledge into sound voyages that awaken the darkest and most hidden chords of consciousness.

“Salbrox” was recorded live and mixed at Music Lab Studio, Italy by Emiliano Pilloni and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Produced by Nibiru.

Sins Of The Damned Posts New Song “Take The Weapons” Online

Shadow Kingdom Records has set May 3rd as the international release date for Sins Of The Damned’s debut album, Striking The Bell Of Death, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

Formed in 2013 in the city of Santiago, Sins Of The Damned have become a cult institution in their homeland of Chile, itself a hotbed of heavy metal mania. The band self-released their first couple of demos, totally DIY but 100% professional, and prodigiously perfected their craft with subsequent short-length releases every year since. And now, at last arrives the full distillation of Sins Of The Damned’s eternal, unyielding aesthetic: the full-length Striking The Bell Of Death!

For a debut album, Striking The Bell Of Death does everything it should: consolidate all of Sins Of The Damned’s strengths, unveil previously hinted-at elements, and deliver them in a powerful production. The beauty (or is that ugliness?) of Sins Of The Damned is that the quartet maintain such a classic sound, drinking deeply of metal’s rich history, and yet exude a freshness of approach that results in something legitimately, respectably modern. Striking The Bell Of Death is full, furious proof of that, exhibiting absolutely masterful songwriting – hooks, energy, and passion – while roughening it up in a manner almost blackened (but not too much!). As such, the record comes highly recommended to maniacs of classic Razor, Whiplash, Exciter, and Deathrow (Germany) as well as current torchbearers like Desaster, Gospel Of The Horns, Deathhammer, and Italy’s Barbarian.

Hark! Do you hear that sound? It’s Sins Of The Damned – Striking The Bell Of Death. The first tolling bell of doom can be heard with the new track “Take The Weapons”.
