Mother Feather announces new album, ‘Constellation Baby’

– September 6th, 2018 –

Stream scorching first single “Red Hot Metal” now

New York City’s Mother Feather have perfected the formula to pay homage to the roots of punk’n’roll and heavy rock injected with their own brand of the divine feminine, and since their debut album have been keeping the audience on their toes. The evolution of their high-energy “pop cock rock” surges forward this November with their sophomore album Constellation Baby, out via Metal Blade Records / Blacklight Media.

The first taste of the new Mother Feather comes in the form of lead single “Red Hot Metal”, now available to stream and download. Just like you’d expect from the name, the track embodies the smoldering nature of the NYC five-piece, radiating controlled adrenaline, highlighted by the production of Grammy-nominated Joshua Valleau. Explains lead singer Ann Courtney, “‘Red Hot Metal is a deathmatch wrestling event of the anxious mind. It’s a fever dream of some of the darkest hours writing the new songs for the album, as I fought to keep my grip on my sanity and the wheel of an old – but fast – red car.”

“Red Hot Metal” indeed gives the listener a vibrant mental image – and Brooklyn Bazaar will witness their glittery, smoky stage presence later this month. Mother Feather will be opening up for metalhead disco-rockers Tragedy this September 29 – for more info, please visit: facebook.com/events/260967624482743/

Mother Feather‘s Constellation Baby will be available November 2 via Metal Blade / Blacklight Media, and is available for pre-order now at: metalblade.com/motherfeather – where you can also stream “Red Hot Metal”.

More on Mother Feather:
New York City. The lights go down, Mother Feather stride onto the stage. The bass frequency clarion call that kicks off their opening song charges its way through the packed room, a ripple of electricity riding off its back. Vocalist Ann Courtney steps to the microphone and purrs the first line: “I need your full attention…” And she’s got it. What follows, every single time the quintet stand before an audience, is pure rock and roll catharsis, for Courtney, for her band mates, and for every individual crammed into the room.

Mother Feather made their introduction with two independently released EPs, which were then released as their 2016 self-titled debut full-length on Metal Blade. Now, the band makes their Metal Blade return with their sophomore album Constellation Baby, an extension on the band’s self-styled pop cock rock, with catharsis bleeding through the speakers in the form of gritty, garage-y glamour. Their songs marry the scratchy yet catchy, swaggering and dangerous sounds of The Stooges, New York Dolls or The MC5 with the playfulness, pop sensibilities and exuberance of the finest 90s alt-rock, a little upbeat 50s rock n’ roll thrown in for good measure. Combined with Courtney’s overtly optimistic, inspiring lyrics, the band deliver an energizing and irresistible concoction that captures the attitude and beating heart of New York City on its best day, empowering everyone in their path.

Of course, the band is far bigger than Courtney alone, having surrounded herself with her best friends, who happen to be extremely talented musicians. Every member plays an intrinsic part when bringing the songs to life, both on record and when unleashed on stage. She affectionately refers to guitarist Chris Foley, bassist Matt Basile and drummer Gunnar Olsen as “three beasts”, all of them bringing so much attitude, energy and personality to the songs. Then there’s keyboardist/vocalist Elizabeth Carena, only ever “Lizzie” to Ann, whose interplay with Courtney is one of the most electrifying facets of their performances. “She’s my best friend, my hype woman, and we support and play off each other. I think it’s such an exciting, empowering thing to see two women on stage supporting each other and totally committed to pop cock rock. It’s an overtly feminist statement. I get excited when I see women with their eyes lit up in the crowd.”

Still, as thrilling as the album is, when it comes to Mother Feather all roads lead back to their incomparable live show. While some may look at the costumes, the makeup and the choreography and see the band as heirs to the crown of the likes of David Bowie and the mystique-chasing glam rock stars of the 70s, the last thing the band want is separation between artist and audience, the connection between them integral. “When I’m on stage it’s not a persona. Mother Feather is not a character. Mother Feather is the real me. Who I am off that stage is more of a persona,” she states plainly. “To make that connection with people you must commit, wholly, and that means being present in every breath and dance move. That’s where the space is, to be wild and crazy and nasty and vulnerable, the space to be terrifying. I want to see everything in a rock show. I want the horror, I want the beauty, I want the fun, I want it to be garish. I want it to be wild, I want it to be loud, I want the drama, I want the camp, I want it to be stripped bare. I want to have the whole world for dinner. So that’s what we try to do, every single time.”

Bat Releases “Beware Of The Bat” Music Video

Speed metal cult Bat has premiered a new video online for the thematically appropriate “Beware of the Bat,” which can be seen below. Originally appearing on the “Wings of Chains” album released through Hells Headbangers, “Beware of the Bat” is the group’s very first video – and is an authentically creepy slice of classic horror.

Says vocalist/bassist Ryan Waste, “We’ve always been fans of classic horror films, so this is Bat’s first stab at making a creature feature of our own. It wouldn’t be possible without the talented Margaret Rolicki, who fabricated the Bat costume and brought our moniker to life.

“She did an incredible job and continues to thrive in the Richmond art community, working with GWAR amongst her other artistic endeavors. We called upon another fellow Richmondite who lives and bleeds horror, our one-man army Mr. Jim Stramel, to film this on the fly. All we had to mention was ‘monster in abandoned graveyard’ and he was in.

“Jim does a horror series called Reviled that you can check out here. We co-directed the video, and had a blast putting the whole production together. This is only the introduction to the Bat, so you better beware. We are currently working on a new four-song EP due out on Hells Headbangers later this year. Expect plenty more filth and fury from the BAT to come.”

Memoriam Signs Record Deal With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast proudly announces the signing of death metal band Memoriam. Founded in January 2016 by Karl Willetts (Bolt Thrower) and Frank Healy (Benediction), the band will release a debut album in 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records. Memoriam comments:

“The war rages on… It is with great pleasure that Memoriam announces that we have signed a recording contract with Nuclear Blast Records. Throughout our long careers, 30 years to be precise, within the music industry and specifically within the death metal scene we have witnessed the growth of Nuclear Blast records to become the number one record company within our genre.

“When we started Memoriam back in January 2016 we intended just to form a band to go into the rehearsal rooms to jam out some cover versions of old classic songs that had influenced us in the past along with some cover versions from the bands we had played with over the years, and maybe eventually do a few low key gigs.

“With the introduction of Scott Fairfax into the line up all this changed, Scott has brought with him a wealth of killer riffs and new ideas which has totally changed things around from our original intentions. Very soon we decided to scrap the idea of being a covers band and to formulate our own songs using these riffs and ideas that Scott introduced to us, and from this we developed a whole load of new crushing brutal old school death metal songs which we are very proud of and can’t wait to unleash upon the world!

“When we started developing the songs we talked about the possibility of signing to a label and releasing an album, at that point we all decided that if Nuclear Blast approached us we would sign to them. This is because amongst all the labels out there none have a better relationship with the bands on their roster, none communicate better with both the bands and the fans of the music. None care as much about the music and the scene as Nuclear Blast Records. Nuclear Blast currently boasts the best artist roster of all the labels within the death metal genre, we are proud and honoured amongst this list! 2016 is the year of MEMORIAM. Let the resistance begin…”

Markus Staiger, CEO of Nuclear Blast, adds: “Being a lifetime fan of both Benediction and Bolt Thrower, it is with great pride that I announce that the new band of Frank Healy and Karl Willets has now joined the Nuclear Blast family! Following the first news regarding the band, I have been keeping a close eye on them and was very curious to hear their material.

“Besides me, a lot of metal magazines have been in touch with the band even before they had heard a single note of music, while the band has also received many invitations to play several summer festivals. After hearing their first demo songs I was completely sold and knew that I had to get in contact with Frank and Karl to seal the deal. Memoriam will please all the fans of old school death metal and especially the worldwide fan base of Bolt Thrower and Benediction!
With bands like Memoriam, Nuclear Blast remains the no # 1 in extreme metal!!”

Memoriam is:

Karl Willetts – BOLT THROWER | vocals
Frank Healy – BENEDICTION, SACRILEGE | bass
Andy Whale – ex-BOLT THROWER | drums
Scott Fairfax – ex-LIFE DENIED, BENEDICTION (live) | guitars

Throneum Announces “Morbid Death Tales” Album

After five years, Polish death metal cult Throneum will return with seventh album, “Morbid Death Tales,” on Hells Headbangers. On “Morbid Death Tales,” fans can expect nothing but raw, ugly and morbidly tuned nightmarish death metal.

On the album’s last two tracks, Mark of the Devil from label mates Cultes Des Ghoules contributes guest vocals to fill the mood of an old graveyard.

Throneum was formed in deepest dungeons of Hell back in 1996. Influenced by thousands of ’80s and early ’90s death and black metal, Throneum is one of the most well-known pure underground bands to hail from Poland. They should need no further introduction for most true blackened death metal fans.

The band proclaims, “If you aren’t into Necrovore, Sadistik Exekution, Mortem, Order From Chaos, Imperator, Asphyx, Mayhem, and Merciless – keep away from Throneum! That’s pure total death!”

An official release date, cover, and track listing for “Morbid Death Tales” shall be revealed shortly.

Stonecast Inks Deal With Pitch Black Records

Pitch Black Records has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Stonecast:

“French epic/heavy power metallers Stonecast have joined our roster and their album ‘Heroikos’ will be our last release for 2013.

“Stonecast was formed in 2002 and after several demo releases, they issued their debut album in 2009. Following a number of shows – including an appearance at the French edition of Sonisphere, where they closed the festival after the ‘Big Four’ – the band is now back with their sophomore effort, ‘Heroikos.’

“Their new album is just pure heavy metal and to further add to its relentless pounding sound the band has enlisted the help of legendary drummer Kenny Earl ‘RHINO’ (ex MANOWAR and JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR among others) whose handling of a drum set needs no further introduction.

“Mixed and mastered by Mariusz Pietka of MP Studio, Poland (known from his work with Crystal Viper and Sacred Steel among others) ‘Heroikos’ is an album of epic proportions that is full of adrenalin pumping steel!

“The band is currently working on a number of live shows, including a support slot at the upcoming Blaze Baley concert in France in March 2014. ‘Heroikos’ is scheduled for release worldwide on November 12th, 2013 on CD and digital while a track is now available for streaming and free download below.”
