Great White Drummer Audie Desbrow Speaks On Split With Vocalist Terry Ilous

In a recent interview with Listen Iowa, Great White drummer Audie Desbrow discussed the recent split with singer Terry Ilous, who had been in the band for seven years and the decision to replace him with Mitch Malloy. An excerpt from the interview reads as follows:

Q: There had been some grumblings online about Terry’s delivery of the songs that put you guys on the map with your original vocalist, Jack Russell. Some fans weren’t satisfied with what they were hearing. Did that play a part in this at all?

Desbrow: “The fans are very used to hearing Jack Russell’s voice in Great White. It’s very identifiable. With Terry, we could have gotten a Jack clone, but we didn’t. Terry fit the criteria of the music direction that we were going in very well. But some people thought we were actually trying to pass him off as Jack, which wasn’t our intention at all. It’s really hard after someone plays in the band for so long. You try to do the best interpretation of the phrasing of Great White. After a while, when you start to add your own style to it, it starts to stray away from what people want to hear.”

“Some things don’t work out business-wise, so we had to part ways with Terry. There were differences of opinions, personality clashes. Certain things just don’t work out after time and you just have to move on. It’s one of those things that sadly has to happen in the music world. I actually got along with Terry well. He’s a great singer. But Mitch is great, too, and we look forward to working with him.”

August Burns Red Debut Cover Of Wham!’s “Last Christmas”

August Burns Red carry on with their holiday tradition posting the below cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas”. Check it out:

Says bassist Dustin Davidson of the song:

“This year I sat down with the intention of writing something upbeat, melodic, and shredtastic. When I decided to cover ‘Last Christmas‘ I kept in mind that most people only know the chorus of the song. I didn’t want to recreate something word for word, or note by note, so I took the main hook and built a bunch of original ideas around it. The lyrics to Wham!‘s ‘Last Christmas‘ are very sad, so if you’re feeling lonely this holiday season, I hope this cover finds you well.”

“Spawned with the intention to distill artistic audacity into respected traditions, Cult of Erinyes belongs to the forbidden experience, where music is merely a symptom of a higher truth. Dead In The Manger Signs With 20 Buck Spin To Release “Transience”

Olympia, Washington-based 20 Buck Spin announces today the induction of mysterious entity, Dead In The Manger. The label comments:

“Very little information was provided to 20 Buck Spin regarding Dead In The Manger when the label was initially contacted about a release, only that the band delivers a mix of depressive black metal and grind (which seemed on paper an impossible combination) and that the intention is to leave a feeling of unease and despondency in the listener.

“Nonetheless, a cursory listen to the outfit’s debut MLP, ‘Transience,’ leaves no doubt that Dead In The Manger succeeds handily in creating music both brutally violent and coldly agonizing.

“Transience begins with an atmospheric repetitive motive conjuring a bleak sadness that sets the stage for an urgent right turn to scalpel-sharp, maximum BPM aggression and multiple stab wounds of hate-driven malcontent. Filled with ill will and revulsion, Dead In The Manger walks a fine line between all out sensory violence and post trauma exhaustion.

“With just six songs in less than twenty minutes — succinctly named Parts I-VI — ‘Transience’ destroys the listener with a calculated premeditation in a short time, and is intended as a first glimpse at what Dead In The Manger is preparing for, as a debut full-length album is currently in the works.”

“Transience” will be unleashed on MLP and digital formats in North America on April 29th and in Europe on May 2nd. Dead in the Manger’s LP debut will follow later in 2014, also on 20 Buck Spin.
