Allegaeon Reveals New Album “Apoptosis” Details

On April 19th, Allegaeon will release their new album, “Apoptosis,” via Metal Blade Records. A near-perfect symbiosis of technical, progressive, and melodic death metal, Apoptosis is a record that is as crushingly heavy as it is inventive, lithe and intelligent, and marks a significant leap forward in the band’s songwriting. To watch the video for the first single, “Stellar Tidal Disruption,” check it out below or head to the Metal Blade website where you can also pre-order the album.

The album will be available in the following formats:
–opaque grey vinyl (US retail exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
–black / white A/B side vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 250 copies)
–oxblood / milky clear A/B side vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 250 copies)
–clear w/ black smoke vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–silver w/ oxblood splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–transparent purple w/ white and black splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)

Tracked at Flatline Audio in Denver with long-serving producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage), Apoptosis is Allegaeon’s fifth full-length, and the first to feature bassist Brandon Michael. “Musically, Brandon brings a huge new dimension,” vocalist Riley McShane enthuses. “He has this wide breadth of music knowledge and stylistic proficiency that he draws from with excellent taste, and this makes a lot of the songs on ‘Apoptosis’ come to life.” The record also features a guest appearance by classical guitarist Christina Sandsengen, who duets with guitarist Greg Burgess on “Colors of the Currents”.

“On this record, I was more open to new ideas that we might not have used in past,” states guitarist Michael Stancel. “Rather than deleting something because ‘it’s not Allegaeon-y enough’, I would take a step back and see if that idea fit the song and decide if it was worth keeping. With that mentality came some of my favorite songs, because I was less worried about if it fit into our old sound.”

This statement is borne out across the whole album, which while very much embodying the core Allegaeon sound that has drawn fans in over the course of their impressive career, it pushes into new territory, and does so with unerring confidence. “Thematically, this record is all about contrast, and the music reflects that perfectly,” says McShane. “The vocals are heavier than ever, but there are also more clean sections. The drums are faster than ever but also more dynamic, and the guitar playing is lower and slower than on most previous albums, but also provides long, melodic and beautiful sections throughout.”

New Album “Overloaded” Announced By 42 Decibel, Video Clip For New Single Available

With the impressive debut album “Hard Rock ‘n’ Roll” (2013), the follow up “Rolling In Town” (2015), and fresh from the first European tour in 2016, 42 Decibel is making a comeback with the latest album, “Overloaded,” which will be released by Steamhammer/SPV on June 23rd. A video clip for the new single “Dangerous Mess” can be seen below.

42 Decibel has recorded ten new rock tracks inspired by the idea of pushing a piece of equipment to its limits. The band recorded and mixed with this in mind, so most of the equipment used in the recording was pushed to its limits; VU meters hitting the red zone, red lights flashing resulting in various types of distortion. Overloaded still carries the Blues Rock torch from the previous albums, but this time 42 Decibel cranked it up a notch to give a more explosive experience but with that same Hard Rock n Roll these boys are known for.

With “Overloaded,” 42 Decibel resolutely follow the course set out on in early 2010 with the first 7-track demo and went straight on to put into serial production with the debut “Hard Rock ‘n’ Roll.” The current line-up with Junior Figueroa, Nicko Cambiasso, Billy Bob and Matt Fraga, is bursting with energy and thirst for action, and – with the exception of the final mastering of the album, for which the band members once more enlisted the services of Justin Weis – took on the entire spectrum of tasks involved in a dynamic studio production themselves.

The track listing for “Overloaded” is:

1. Whiskey Joint 3:07
2. Dangerous Mess 3:22
3. Brawler 3:42
4. Roadkiller 3:46
5. Hot Shot 3:03
6. Half Face Dead 2:39
7. Lost Case 4:37
8. Cause Damage 4:09
9. Double Itch Blues 6:55
10. Cannon Fodder 4:44

Afterbirth Signs With Unique Leader Records

New York progressive/brutal death metal group Afterbirth – featuring within its ranks members of Helmet, Artificial Brain, and Buckshot Facelift – is the latest addition to the Unique Leader Records roster.

Comments the band: “Afterbirth is extremely pleased to announce that we’ve signed with Unique Leader Records, one of the most legendary and long-running labels in the death metal underground. We couldn’t be happier to be part of the Unique Leader tradition and its growing roster of some of the most intense and brutal bands operating in extreme music today.”

Details of the band’s forthcoming new full-length to be announced in the coming months. Unique Leader also issued this history on the group:

“Among the earliest purveyors of brutal death metal, Afterbirth was forged on Long Island, New York during the Summer of 1993. The following year, the band release the Psychopathic Embryotomy studio demo which has since become something of a cult-like classic among the extreme metal underground. Due to various issues among its members however, Afterbirth disbanded shortly thereafter the recording.

“Fast forward almost twenty years to 2013: Setting aside the differences that might have contributed to their initial demise, Afterbirth reformed, rehearsing their older songs and crafting new material that not only drew upon their earlier work but also highlighted their collective musical evolution.

“Afterbirth racked a new demo simply titled ‘2014 Demo,’ which showcased their sharpened and honed musical prowess. It wasn’t long before the band was road blocked yet again as longtime founding front man Matt Duncan was asked to leave due to numerous creative, personal, and musical differences.

“The three remaining members — guitarist Cody Drasser, bassist David Case (Helmet), and drummer Keith Harris decided to continue on as a three-piece instrumental unit for the time, descending into an extremely rich and productive period of songwriting, The band would toil away in obscurity as a trio before joining forces with vocalist Will Smith of Artificial Brain and Buckshot Facelift. Smith’s inhuman gutturals harken back to Afterbirth’s brutal death metal roots, while his impressive shrieking, hardcore bark and unearthly vocal techniques add much needed depth and color to the band’s ever-increasing sonic palette.”

In May of this year, this impressive line-up entered the studio together with award-winning producer Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood). The result is a complex and feverish set of modern rock songs. Urban tribal rhythms; potent melancholia; raw pop sensibility; irreverent ferociousness – “Dreamcrash” is seductive in its surrealism one minute, and a cold shower of harsh reality the next.

I am concerned with a total collapse of our dreams“, says Mat McNerney. “Hacking out this feverish, frantic and very uninhibited music, it exposes and lays raw some intense emotions. As we get deeper and closer to capturing the spirit of what we set out for this band to be, we are touching some vital nerves. It’s getting under the skin, under the flesh.

Coathanger Abortion Issuing “Observations Of Humanity”

Tennessee death grinders Coathanger Abortion are back with an all new oozing discharge of southern styled brutality. “Observations of Humanity” will drop on June 2nd via Comatose Music, with the label having this to say about Coathanger Abortion:

“Formed in 2000, they have been very active over the years, creating wide spread disorder and blazing a moonshine fueled path of destruction on the road with five US tours, one Canadian tour, plus many festival appearances.

“Coathanger Abortion spent the past six years building up to ‘Observations of Humanity’, the impressive follow up to 2009’s ‘Dying Breed’. This new album stays true to their time tested formula of catchy songs with a raw and old school vibe reminiscent of the 1990’s.”
