Jill Janus Confirms She Will Remain Vocalist For Huntress

Following a statement by guitarist Blake Meahl clarifying the band had not broken up (prompted by various metal sites reporting that was the case), front woman Jill Janus has now issued this update about remaining with Huntress:

“Back to business! Yes, I am still the singer for Huntress. I’ve seen some heavy shit, but so often the things I say or do are misconstrued even by those closest to me.

“It is the end of an era for Huntress, we completed our trilogy, writing one album a year. I look forward to writing more Huntress records, and working on new musical projects I’ve been developing. The best is yet to come!”

Huntress Guitarist Blake Meahl Comments On Breakup Rumors

Last night Huntress front woman Jill Janus posted a status update about her frustration with health issues and online trolls, leading several sites to prematurely report that Huntress had broken up. Guitarist Blake Meahl has now issued the following statement clarifying the situation:

“Our vocalist Jill Janus posted an announcement last night that she was having difficulty dealing with devastating health issues. Four months ago she had major surgery to remove cancer from her uterus.

“She needs time to fully recover from her hysterectomy and to continue treatment for her mental health issues. Her bouts with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and disassociative identity disorder have been particularly difficult lately and are ultimately responsible for her unfounded statement last night.

“We will resume touring in December when Huntress joins Black Label Society 12/26-12/31. Thank you for your kindness and understanding.”

Jill Janus recently discussed her physical and mental health issues at length with Revolver, with excerpts from that interview available here.

American thrash act Battlecross has confirmed summer tour dates with Canada’s Wacken Battle winners Crimson Shadows and New York’s IKILLYA.

Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala says, “We’re excited to announce our first headline run in quite a while. It’s short but sweet, and this gives us time to write the new record this summer. We are stoked to have our Canadian brothers, Crimson Shadows joining us. We did a short run with those guys earlier this year and they’re a great live band and have an awesome record coming out next fall.”

After two busy summers on the 2012 Trespass America tour and the 2013 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, the band looks forward to some time off before South American dates with Killswitch Engage. Battlecross will use the time to write the follow up to “War of Will.”

Battlecross is currently on tour in Europe with a series of festival appearances including Download Festival and the Graspop Metal Meeting, plus club shows with Huntress and Lacuna Coil. A full list of dates can be found below.

Guitarist Tony Asta says, “The past year has been very inspiring for the band and our attitude towards the writing process this time around is more confident and driven. BATTLECROSS Release Slayer Cover

– May 23rd, 2014 –

Detroit, MI’s Battlecross just released a new cover of Slayer’s “War Ensemble!” SiriusXM Liquid Metal’s Jose Mangin will debut the track live today at 5:00 pm EST. It will then repeat every three hours throughout the weekend.

Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala says, “Slayer is obviously one of our biggest influences. Slayer taught me personally to not give a f#@k and throw in attitude in your riffs. War Ensemble is one of my favorite Slayer songs because it embodies the aggression and attitude of Slayer but also is more dynamic than a traditional Slayer song that is all speed. Jeff Hanneman was an underrated player and it’s shame his greatness was only recognized after he passed. In honor of Jeff we wanted to cover “War Ensemble” and throw in a bit of our own twist and speed to the song. Slayer!!!!!!”

The track will be streaming via Metal Hammer UK and Metal Hammer Germany beginning May 27 and will later be made available to fans via iTunes.

Battlecross‘ cover of “War Ensemble” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Matt Dalton at 37 Studios in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
