Hyborian Releases “As Above, So Below” Video

Kansas City group Hyborian burst into the world of heavy metal last month with the release of the groovy, retro stoner metal-esque singles “Maelstrom” and “Dead Lies Dreaming,” cut from upcoming debut album “Hyborian: Volume I,” which is hitting stores on March 17th, 2017 via The Company.

Wasting no time in keeping new fans stocked with tasty jams, Hyborian is today revealing a brand new music video for new track “As Above, So Below,” This video is the first to be released from “Hyborian: Volume I” and was directed by Alec Nicholas.

The title and chorus of “As Above, So Below” reference a quote from the fundamental Hermetic-movement text, The Emerald Tablet, as dissected by famed English occultist, magician, poet and novelist Aleister Crowley.

Frontman and guitarist Martin Bush says, “The song is about how time is cyclical and nothing really matters in the big scheme of things. The title/hook is a Crowley quote, and we feel like it’s a pretty good intro to the band, our concept, and our sound. This track hits hard, and as the first track, sets up the stories we tell throughout the rest of the record.”

2. Maelstrom
3. Blood for Blood
4. Dead Lies Dreaming

Machinae Supremacy Posts “My Dragons Will Decimate” Guitar Playthrough

Video game-inspired Swedish metal group Machinae Supremacy’s new album “Into The Night World” is hitting stores on December 16th, 2016 via the band’s own Hubnester Records, in collaboration with Swedish music company BD Pop.

Machinae Supremacy’s 8-bit-laden, alt-power metal tunes are backed by the notable technical prowess of guitar duo Jonas Rörling and Tomi Luoma. Today, fans get a look at a guitar playthrough for the band’s newest single, “My Dragons Will Decimate.” Check it out below.

Tomi Luoma discusses the gear used on the track: “For ‘My Dragons Will Decimate’ I used a Jackson Kelly with active EMG pickups to record those balls-out metal riffs over Nicky’s epic old-school VGM synth tracks. We use the ElevenRack for all guitars, but sometimes we just line in and use software FX like Amplitube to get the right sound. Dragons has a little bit of both.”

Scythia Posts New Track “Laugh Of The Tsar”

Progressive/power metal four-piece Scythia recently announced the release of fourth independent full-length album, “Lineage,” hitting stores this Wednesday, May 4th. Pre-orders are up here.

Today the band releases a new track from the upcoming album. Check out “Laugh of the Tsar” below. Scythia guitarist and vocalist Dave Khan states:

“‘Laugh of the Tsar’ was written eight years ago and on Lineage we FINALLY give life to this surreal whirlwind of a symphonic metal track. From beginning to end, the song charges ahead with a fast-tempo onslaught of melodic death metal against an orchestral backdrop with only a brief respite in the middle to showcase Scythia’s ability to weave beautiful slavic-style folk music into a crushing metal track.”

Although the band primarily self-produced the album, “Lineage” features engineering from Nino Laurenne (Firewind, Finntroll, Wintersun, Ensiferum) and Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Powerwolf), and mastering from Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Volbeat, Firewind, Apocalyptica). Nino Laurenne is also responsible for mixing duties on the album. “Lineage” was recorded at LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany and Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland.
