Venom Reveals New Box Set “In Nomine Satanas” Details

Venom formed in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom’s first two albums – “Welcome To Hell” (1981) and “Black Metal” (1982) – are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom’s second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of the extreme metal subgenre of black metal. The band classic line-up trio of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon recorded two further studio albums – “At War With Satan” (1984) and “Possessed” (1985) – and live album “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (1986). Often cited by bands such as Metallica, Behemoth, Celtic Frost and Mayhem as major influences, they are one of the most revered bands of their generation. Venom are still fronted by original singer/bassist Cronos and headline festivals all over the globe and continue to release new music.

This coming May 31st sees the release of “In Nomine Satanas” via BMG – a deluxe vinyl box set that celebrates Venom’s 40th anniversary and features the original Neat Records recordings from their 1981 debut “Welcome To Hell” to “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” the live recording of their mythical appearance at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1985. All of the albums are remastered from the original tapes with embossed covers, posters and inserts like their original first editions. They’re all now on colour configured vinyl too. The set also includes a 12“ book detailing the history of the band featuring new interviews with all three members, written by respected journalist Dom Lawson.

Of particular interest to hardcore Venom fans will be the “Sons Of Satan” double-album included within the set that features a treasure trove of unreleased demos from the bands vaults, some of which are mythical among fans who have known about their existence, but have never heard them as the tracks alluded bootleggers. Among the tracks are the earliest known Venom performances, captured where the band rehearsed in 1979 at Westgate Road Church Hall in Newcastle’s West End and featuring original singer Clive “Jesus Christ” Archer on vocals. Also included are the £50 demos from 1980, captured at Impulse Studios, alongside further demos from 1980 and the “At War With Satan” 1983 Impulse Studio demos.

Herod Posts “Fork Tongue” Video, Featuring Carcass Guitarist Bill Steer

Herod have arisen from the ever- prosperous Swiss music scene. Throughout their young 4 years of presence, they have already shared the stage with such acts as Gojira, Crowbar, The Ocean, Carcass, Obituary, Napalm Death and Voivod – Attesting their repute as the bus boy’s of King Herod, serving up whole sides of rare riffs, disposition, beauty and authority.

Initially the brain child of guitarist Pierre Carroz, 2014 saw Herod’s debut release “They were None” via Mighty Music and a subsequent European tour. Following the departure of original vocalist David, former The Ocean (Precambrian) vocalist Mike Pilat was recruited for follow up album “Sombre Dessein”.

Pilat also plays guitar and Herod are now furnished with a supplementary layer of musicality to complement both heaviness and soundscape aspects of their palette. Carcass guitar player Bill Steer makes a guest appearance on “Fork Tongue,” the new track which the band have shared today.

The band comment, “When Michael Pilat (Vocal/gtr) and Pierre Carroz (founder/gtr) worked on the lyrics, they came up with a concept made out of ideas and punch lines Pierre had been collecting for a few months. At that time Pierre was reading the works of a French philosopher (Michel Onfray) who introduced him to the idea of the inescapable end of our civilisation as a Greek tragedy. We all have studied the history of ancient civilizations that have collapsed at some point but it is like we cannot face the idea that we might reach the end of our civilisation that started about 2000 years ago. After brainstorming, they decided to build the lyrics with the concept of the rise & fall of a dictator, which is also a tip of the cap to King Herod.

“Design-wise, Pierre had the idea of the « Shipbreakers” when he saw the documentary “Freightened” (https://www.freightened.com) that talks about the cargo freight which ships 90% of what we consume in social,
economic and environmentally disastrous conditions.

“The artwork and the video clip are made up from footage of “Shipbreakers”, people who dismantle huge container ships which end up mooring to die on Indian or Bangladeshi shores. Herod create a strong musical and visual image of the abysses of the human consumption project, which turns out to be hell on earth for these people whose every day work involves constantly risking their lives to feed their families. And we’re all concerned.

“The idea behind the lyrics is the acceptance of the situation, the confrontation of our denial and the quest of a certain “tragic wisdom” in order to find the light where it is.

“While opening 35 shows for Carcass in 2015, we were delighted to see Sir William Steer playing every night. He’s such a inspiring and thrilling guitar player as well as an humble gentleman. During the recoding process we ask him to record a solo on « Fork Tongue » and we couldn’t believe he accepted.”

Recorded and mixed by Swiss audiophile Julien Fehlman, mastered by Magnus Lindberg from Cult of Luna, “Sombre Dessein” is an album of staggering riffs, intricate yet groovy polyrhythmic patterns and sheer heaviness. The bi-lingual vocal approach adds an unusual but intriguing aspect to the band’s delivery of their craft.

“Sombre Dessein” is released on 15th February via Pelagic Records.

The band still spits out anthems of heartful, no-holds-barred hardcore like on day one with live gigs full of unchained energy!

Veterans of NOLA sound mixing southern rock, blues riffs and hardcore punk EYEHATEGOD are one of the most reputable and distinctive bands ever, even defining a brand new genre now known as sludge in the past.

Other veterans formed in 1987 this time in Sweden and quickly became one of the most creative death metal bands, pushed limits of the contemporary sound and grew beyond themselves. Later on THERION released Theli, which would be the ultimate breakthrough for the band. With the record THERION turned towards a more opera-like, progressive and even orchestral sound which made them famous through the world. And now they’re coming to Brutal Assault with a special Theli show!

Odd-time signatures, avalanches of breaks and complex rhythmical as well as melodic patterns will excite every aficionado of extreme technicality, while growls down-tuned strings and double-bass assaults will more than satisfy extreme metal connoisseurs when WORMED take over BA stage!

Their South African brutal death metal cousins VULVODYNIA are one of the most active and well known bands in the genre today. Their brutal yet catchy, pit fueling, heavy as hell sound has since earned them fans from around the world and now they are ready to conquer BA!

The final addition on the list is the mysterious producer known as GOST, who embodies the character of Baalberith on his propulsive synthwave solo project that is channeling his fascination with the occult, John Carpenter and 80s slasher flicks. With its haunting atmospherics and aesthetics influenced by the blackest corners of the metal world his music quickly garnered GOST a loyal following within the rock and metal community worldwide.

Armored Saint and Metal Monkey Brewing join forces for “Symbol Of Salvation” Belgian Blonde Ale

– November 26th, 2018 –

Available at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles; Armored Saint announces signing at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles

Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles (Dec. 1st and 2nd), presented by Metal Blade Records, continues its mission of pairing the most extreme minds in music and craft beer with “Symbol Of Salvation” Belgian Blonde Ale – a collaboration between Armored Saint (who will be performing at the SOLD-OUT official festival pre-party) and participating brewery Metal Monkey Brewing (Romeoville, IL). Brewed with Grains of Paradise and Pacifica hops, “Symbol Of Salvation” offers a slight twist on the traditional style; the Grains of Paradise add a slightly spicy, woody character, while the Pacifica hops bring to the party an aroma and flavor reminiscent of orange marmalade. The beer will first be tapped at the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles – where Armored Saint will also be signing at 7PM on Dec. 1st. Enjoy “Symbol Of Salvation” with Armored Saint at the festival by purchasing your ticket now at: decibelmagazine.com

Brewmasters Dan Camp and Jason Janes started Metal Monkey Brewing out of a shared love for craft beer and heavy metal. Together they have over 20 years of brewing experience, with the last three spent building up the brewery portfolio, experimenting with styles and ingredients, and spreading word of their brews far and wide. Regarding the making of “Symbol Of Salvation”, Metal Monkey Brewing comments:

“Metal Monkey got to hang out with Fates Warning after their Joliet, IL and Milwaukee, WI dates during their 2017 Theories of Flight tour. It was basically two nights of bonding over the magic of music and beer. When Armored Saint came through Chicago earlier this year as part of their tour to celebrate ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ we had the chance to do it all over again.
Since then, we’ve kept in touch with Joey Vera with an eye toward working together in the future. After we were added to the brewery lineup for the Decibel Metal & Beer Festival, we immediately got in touch with Joey because it was the perfect opportunity to turn a hypothetical into a reality.
Working with Joey has been a blast. He’s he made music that’s been a fixture in our lives and he shares our love of beer and our passion for creativity. It’s been an honor to pair up and create a fun, flavorful beer that sidesteps conventional expectations.
We’re proud to debut ‘Symbol Of Salvation’, our Belgian Blonde Ale brewed in collaboration with and in celebration of Armored Saint and their iconic album, at the Decibel Metal & Beer Festival. Everything about this beer was born of a shared love for the art of brewing that, much like heavy metal in all its forms, affords endless possibilities.”

Armored Saint‘s Joey Vera adds: “We are super excited to announce that we have made a great craft beer in collaboration with Metal Monkey Brewery from Romeoville, Il! Aside from being Metal Heads, these guys are great brewers who are not afraid of going outside the box! Together, we’ve created a killer Belgian Blonde Ale that we stand tall behind! Welcome to ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ Belgian Blonde Ale! Come on out to the Decibel Beer Fest, meet the band, meet our brew, get a taste of ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ Belgian Blonde Ale!”

Tom Warrior’s Triumph Of Death To Perform Hellhammer Set At Hellfest 2019

Hellhammer existed for a mere two years, from May 1982 to May 1984. During this time, the band wrote material for three demos, one 12″ EP, and the legendary Death Metal compilation album, along with a number of unrecorded songs.

In light of Hellhammer’s now mythically iconic status in the global metal scene, it is almost inconceivable that most of this music has never been performed live.

Hellhammer’s successor group, Celtic Frost, formed by ex-Hellhammer members Tom Gabriel Warrior and Martin Eric Ain, initially played two of Hellhammer’s songs but soon abandoned this habit due to the band rapidly developing its own material. Tom Gabriel Warrior’s Triptykon, founded in 2008, have played one or the other rare Hellhammer song during special occasions. The vast body of Hellhammer’s work remains unperformed, however.

Until now.

The resurrection of the music of Hellhammer has been an idea Tom Gabriel Warrior and Martin Eric Ain have discussed for many years, sparked not least by their renewed collaboration in the reformed Celtic Frost in the 2000s and by the years of work on Warrior’s second book Only Death Is Real (2009), which details the history of Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost.

Tom Gabriel Warrior: “Hellhammer will never return and will never be reformed. It is absolutely impossible to reform a band so closely linked to a very specific and unique period in time. I never considered it, no matter how substantial the offers that were pitched to me over the years. But Hellhammer’s music exists, and it is an extremely important part of my life’s path. And I would like to play it onstage before my demise.”

The first step towards the realization of Triumph Of Death, named after Hellhammer’s most infamous song and intended to be a very respectful and authentic tribute to Hellhammer, were taken years ago. Triumph Of Death consists of some of Warrior’s closest friends; individuals who not only love this music but truly understand it. The line-up emulates Hellhammer’s final incarnation of April/May 1984, when the group had added an additional guitarist.

Triumph Of Death will commence playing Hellhammer’s music onstage in 2019. It is a project with an open end. Apart from wage considerations to perhaps release an occasional live EP, Triumph Of Death will not record any new music but is solely dedicated to performing both well-know and obscure Hellhammer songs. The project is based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Triumph of Death will perform live at the Hellfest Open Air Festival on June 21st, 2019.

Triumph Of Death:
Tom Gabriel Warrior (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Triptykon) – voice/guitars
Mia Wallace (Niryth, The True Endless, Kirlian Camera) – bass
Michael Zech (Secrets Of The Moon, Odem Arcarum) – guitar/vocals
Alessandro Commerio (Forgotten Tomb, Hiems) – drums
