King Diamond launches new video, “Arrival (Live at Graspop)”, from upcoming DVD/Blu-ray, ‘Songs For The Dead Live’

– January 8th, 2019 –

On January 25th, King Diamond will release a new DVD/Blu-ray, Songs For The Dead Live, via Metal Blade Records.

There is only one King Diamond, and for more than thirty years the great Dane has been dropping classic albums and putting on shows fans remember for the rest of their lives. Perhaps the only downside to having such a formidable catalogue is that there are just too many great songs to fit into a single set. However, you would be hard-pressed to find a fan who wouldn’t want to hear 1987′s seminal Abigail in its entirety, and Songs For The Dead Live captures this, twice, and in very different locales. Boasting eighteen songs per set, each of the two shows – Belgium’s Graspop Metal Meeting in June 2016 and Philadelphia’s Fillmore in November 2015 – feature a brace of classic King Diamond and Mercyful Fate tracks including “Welcome Home,” “Halloween,” and “Eye Of The Witch” before launching into Abigail. The performances of the all-star lineup of musicians, comprising of guitarists Andy LaRocque and Mike Wead, bassist Pontus Egberg and drummer Matt Thompson, are absolutely ferocious, hammering home every single moment.

For a preview of Songs For The Dead Live, a new video, “Arrival (Live at Graspop)”, can be viewed at: youtube.com/watch?v=zCElPIPWfWQ

Fans can also watch “Sleepless Nights (Live at The Fillmore)” at: metalblade.com/kingdiamond – where Songs For The Dead Live can be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–2DVD/CD 6-Panel Digipak
–Blu-ray (includes audio digital download of Philadelphia Show)
–special edition box set with 5 discs (2DVD, 2CD, 1 Blu-ray) plus poster, flier, laminate, setlist, ticket, sticker, and guitar pick (limited to 3000 copies)
–opaque blue with white splatter vinyl (US retail exclusive – limited to 600 copies)
–opaque red with black splatter vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–opaque white with black splatter vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 200 copies)

–transparent amber marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 700 copies)
–clear ghost white vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
–orange-brown/black marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 300 copies)

–clear lavender marbled vinyl (EMP exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–clear ash grey marbled vinyl (Bengan exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–pink blue marbled vinyl (Ebay exclusive – limited to 200 copies)

Captured on film by director Denise Korycki for Wild Wind Productions, she worked closely with King on every aspect of filming, and throughout the viewer finds themselves front and center as the shows unfold. This includes some inventive camera placement, such as riding in on the back of the wheelchair as it is wheeled out to “Out From The Asylum” at the start of the show, or looking up from the coffin at the commencement of Abigail opener “Funeral”, which adds an extra dimension to proceedings. Naturally, the theatricality that has become synonymous with King Diamond is there in full force, making for an even more immersive experience. The gothic stage set and the participation of actors playing out certain scenes tying into the songs definitely increases the drama and the sense of complete disconnect from the trappings of reality, ensuring that the shows remain riveting from start to finish.

While the setlists are virtually identical, the drastic difference in the two venues make for distinctly different atmospheres. The sweeping, epic scale of Graspop and the virtual sea of baying metalheads makes for a particularly thrilling spectacle, King holding them all in the palm of his hand. The Fillmore show is immediately more intimate, and rather than a mixed bag of metal lovers drunk on a weekend of the heavy stuff, the audience is comprised entirely of the King Diamond devout, screaming back every word, their love for their hero bleeding from every frame. Songs For The Dead Live gives those who missed out on seeing these shows in the flesh a chance to vividly experience them, offering so much deeper an experience than your run of the mill live DVD.

North Hammer Premiere New Track “Magic Mead”

North Hammer is premiering the third single “Magic Mead”, a song taken from their upcoming new album “Stormcaller” set for release on March 16th, 2018.

Mainman Andrew James comments:

“‘Magic Mead takes us to the lodgings of the hero as he celebrates a glorious victory with his fellow brothers in arms over a distant tyrant king. As the militia feast and drink to their new found glory, a strange and fantastical looking woman catches his attention away from the camp. The magic mead part of it is contributed to his magical encounter with this woman as he follows her further into the night. Hallucinations start to happen and he eventually loses control of himself and passes out. This is the reason I chose to put the more blasty and dark ending to the song.”

Sons Of Crom Announces New Album “The Black Tower”

The Swedish / Finnish northerners from Sons Of Crom return later this summer with new album “The Black Tower.” The album is due for release on August 18th and will be available in multiple formats.

The whole visual presentation was crafted by Babalon Graphics, with the cover artwork available below after a stream of new single “Black Wings Up High.” The following press release was alos issued:

“The Riddle of Steel has been solved. The mountain’s call answered, the earth conquered and spent. Now, the stars beckon – celestial gateways unlocked through ancient sepulchers, divine bloodlines, and the undying fires of spiritual rebirth.

“Without regard for convention, this ethereal journey is set to unorthodox tones of grandiose heavy metal. Flowing from the deepest black abyss, through brooding melancholy and into the proud glory of the rising sun, this voyage is as bold as it is divergent.

“Join our hero on a perilous quest for the eternal truth beyond the shrouds of mortality, where time and space hold no ground and the misty veil between life and afterlife is a mere illusion. Sacrifice reason and ascend – enter the Black Tower.”

A Hero For The World Announces New Album “West To East Part 1 – Frontier Vigilante”

International melodic crew A Hero For The World announced today that a new album called “West To East Part 1 – Frontier Vigilante” is to be released this summer. This is the second all-original, full-length album from the band, and the first in 4 years.

In the years since the previous debut album, A Hero For The World has released a full-length Christmas album (“Winter Is Coming – A Holiday Rock Opera”) in addition to several EPs and singles.

After surviving a 7.2 earthquake and the super typhoon Yolanda in October & November 2013 that struck the Philippine islands, Jacob and Louie departed to the USA, where several songs where written in Nashville, and then they eventually settled in Europe by the Mediterranean. Jacob would during those years come to write over 100 songs that have yet to be recorded.

“West To East” is an adventure concept; a trilogy album series, with the first album having both the story and the music influenced by the Wild West legends and movies. The second part (hopefully out in 2018) continues the journey to the East, and in the third part the hero goes beyond this Earth and eventually out into the galaxy. The “hero” remains unnamed.

Statement On Band Future Released By Riverside

Polish prog masters Riverside have released a statement regarding the future of the band following the death of guitarist and founder Piotr Grudzinski and you can find the full text below:

“Dear Friends,

“We’d like to thank you again for your friendship and support throughout this most tragic time for us and we’d like to officially announce that we have made a decision about our future.

“We have decided that we are not going to do a casting for a new guitarist. Thus we have ceased to be a quartet and have become a trio. In this line-up we will prepare our new studio album. Both in the recording studio and on tour – if we get back to touring – we will be playing with session guitarists, who are our friends, whom we know and like. But the line-up of Riverside will be as shown in the picture.

“Yes, we do realise that this is not going to be the same band. We know that for many of you the story of Riverside ends here, this year, and that ‘Eye of the Soundscape’ might be the last Riverside album you’ll buy. We know that some of you can’t imagine this band without the characteristic guitar of Piotr Grudzinski and for you Riverside has ceased to exist. But our story is not over yet; with a flaw, with a scar, with a wealth of new experiences, we have decided to go on.

“We know stories of many bands that have survived and have been successful, in spite of all. And we want to be the living proof that giving up is not an option and that we can be an inspiration for others, too. For as long as we can, we’ll continue to do our best to create and meet with you wherever the emotions are running high. Grudzien will still be with us. We are definitely not going to forget him. He’s a part of our lives. But in order for the memory of him to survive, we have to continue. And we want to. So we’re embarking on another journey and we are thankful to everyone who will join us.

“Our plans for the nearest future?

“Next year we’re going to start working on a new album. Marked by the circumstances, it will probably be a return to heavier and more intense sound. But before that, in February 2017, on the anniversary of Piotr’s death, we’d like to play our first gig. A very special gig which will be an exceptional event. We’d like to play it with guests, with friends, for Piotr, for us. And for you. We’d like our music to be the hero of that day, we’d like to let it speak for itself. We’ll give you more details about it in the coming weeks.

“The river will never be the same again but it doesn’t mean it has to stop flowing.

“Best regards,

“Mariusz Duda, Piotr Kozieradzki, Michal Lapaj”

As previously mentioned, October 21st, 2016 will see the release of “Eye Of The Soundscape”, a complementary Riverside instrumental album, via InsideOutMusic. The release features cover artwork by Travis Smith and includes 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase Riverside’s ambient electronic side.
