Omotai Provides Song For Harvey Benefit Compilation

While the band’s hometown struggles to clear the carnage left by Hurricane Harvey, Houston-based Omotai has provided a new track to a benefit compilation to help the community rebuild.

“Making Waves: A Benefit Compilation For Those Affected By Hurricane Harvey” is available digitally at Bandcamp, featuring fifteen Houston artists including Football, etc., Cool Moon, Vodi, Ruiners, The Wheel Workers, Astragal, Dollie Barnes, Greg Cote & The Real Life Friends, Tee Vee, Lace, El Lago, Miears, Fight Me, and Rose Ette.

Omotai provides the track “A Cruel Weight, Thy Wound,” which can be heard below. All proceeds from the sales of this album will be donated directly to United Way Of Greater Houston’s Hurricane Relief Fund.

Omotai bassist/vocalist Melissa Lonchambon Ryan offers, “This storm was completely unfathomable, and I’ve been through a lot of hurricanes. Some of the first-person accounts I’ve read will haunt me for a long time. For a lot of people here, it will be difficult and take a long time to get back to some kind of normalcy or get close to replacing what was lost. But I was astounded by the response of regular people here that stepped up and rescued and helped others.”

Ancient Altar Releases “Tidal” Music Video

CVLT Nation is today hosting Ancient Altar’s new video for “Tidal” today. Check it out below.

Hailing from Los Angeles, the land of the unrelenting sun, Ancient Altar bring an arcane philosophy and a stripped down approach to a bristling and brutal brand of heavy rock. Formed in late 2013, the band features bassist Scott Carlson and guitar player Barry Kavener splitting vocal duties, along with guitar player Jesse Boldt and drummer Tom Oz, who together have birthed a slow burning doom/sludge combo.

Fresh off a Spring mini-tour of Central/Northern California with plans for a full West Coast tour in August, Ancient Altar is currently preparing a scorching four-track debut release, recorded and engineered by Etay Levy, with additional recording and mixing by Gary Griffth (Morgion), and mastering by James Plotkin (O.L.D., Khanate, Jodis).

Drunk Dad To Release New EP “Morbid Reality”

In a constant barrage of new noise from Portland-based D.I.Y. noisemongers Eolian Empire, the label’s next conquest comes by way of the filthifying new 12” from local metalworkers Drunk Dad. The following press release was issued about the band:

“If they weren’t such dirty fuckers they’d be one of the town’s shining success stories of unrelenting hard work and dedication: in a surprisingly short time Drunk Dad went from favorite-band-shirts-on-their-hearts-on-their-sleeves to a unique and dynamic fusion of the heavy, the noisy, and the aggro, with a healthy dose of high drama, as they consistently churn out some of the most devastating live sets Portland has seen in years. Complex but in-your-face arrangements, push-pull duel-guitar interplay, searing behind-the-head leads, heavy motherfucking bass, and hard-hitting, tight, technical traps with dynamic, disturbing vocals to hold it all together evolves to ethical scumbaggery at its finest.

“Morbid Reality, the first vinyl release from Portlandian shitstarters Drunk Dad, merges off-kilter sludge/noise the Pacific Northwest perpetuates so well into a drugged-out but aggro vibe; elements of scathing crust-ish degenerate punk brutality of El Dopa or Dystopia are cold-filtered with slow-motion acerbic sludge basslines and noxious riffage with a post-Melvins experimental vibe.”

Eolian Empire will drop the four-song “Morbid Reality” on 12” vinyl and digital download this coming June 11th. The track listing is as follows:

1. Guts
2. Seizure
3. Ritual
4. Scum Fee
