Michael Schenker Fest Recording New Album; Reveals New Drummer

Following on from the release of their successful debut album, Resurrection, Michael Schenker Fest are currently recording their second album, co-produced by Michael Schenker and Michael Voss, which is tentatively scheduled to be released in August 2019.

The news is bittersweet however, as the band have been mourning the passing of beloved MSF drummer Ted Mckenna.

Michael Schenker comments, “We are totally heartbroken to hear about Ted McKenna – our amazing drummer and dearest friend – passing away. It’s a massive shock and a huge loss to lose Ted so suddenly. He always had a smile on his face and was one of the most sincerely genuine people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. One of the great rock drummers, he always played from the heart and his heart was music. Rest in peace Ted, we will miss you x.”

Today, the band announced they will be welcoming back Simon Philipps and Bodo Schopf – who each played drums in MSG – to the Michael Schenker Fest line-up. Simon who played on the MSG debut album will return as the main drummer on the upcoming second album. Due to his schedule, he is unable to be the live drummer for the upcoming US tour however, so this role will be completed by Bodo Schopf, who played on Perfect Timing and Save Yourself. With the sudden passing of Ted Mckenna, Bodo will be featured on the upcoming record but in a smaller role, as he had the important job of preparing for the US tour.

Michael Schenker states, “We are very grateful to Bodo for being a team player and working out with Simon what needs to be done in order for us to continue as smoothly as possible, and also to Simon for helping us to make it all possible. Bodo is the perfect choice to continue as the permanent drummer for Michael Schenker Fest. It is a perfect balance between the musicians from the past. It includes everything as a family to continue Michael Schenker Fest.”

Bodo comments, “I am very sorry that Ted had to leave us under these tragic circumstances and I’m proud to rock for him and all the Michael Schenker fans. RIP Ted”

Vixen Vocalist Janet Gardner Leaves The Band

Vixen vocalist Janet Gardner has announced that she has decided to step down from the band, ending her fifth stint with the group. In a post on Facebook, the singer stated:

“After much soul searching and many sleepless nights, I have decided that it’s time for me to step aside and let Roxy (Petrucci, drummer) and Share (Ross, bassist) pursue their vision for the future of Vixen. Vixen will always have a very special place in my heart and I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of it. I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support over the years, and as Roxy and Share continue to keep the heart and soul of Vixen alive and well and I continue on my path, your continued support to all would be greatly appreciated. Love, Janet.”

Gardner joined Vixen in the eighties and appeared with the band in the movies “Hardbodies” and “The Decline Of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years,” as well as releasing three studio albums with the group, as well as the recent live album, “Live Fire” last year.

Static X Announces Reformation With Original Lineup

Static-X is back! Featuring the band’s original lineup introduced on their 1999 platinum-selling debut full-length album, Wisconsin Death Trip, bassist Tony Campos, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and drummer Ken Jay have joined forces once again to release a new album, “Project Regeneration.”

The album, set for release in spring 2019, will be released in conjunction with a world tour to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip. The band plans to perform the majority of their debut album at each show. Headline dates will serve as memorial events to honor late frontman Wayne Static, who passed away on November 1st, 2014. More information on the world tour and other dates will be coming soon.

The band has cultivated a treasure chest of vocal performances and musical compositions left behind by Wayne. Along with the help of Static-X’s long-time producer Ulrich Wild, the band is in the process of completing their seventh studio album, which will feature between 12 and 15 brand new Static-X tracks.

“With the 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip quickly approaching, it feels like the right time to pay our respects to the band, to Wayne, and to all the fans who have been with us right from the start,” says bassist Tony Campos. “We had a lot of material to work with… several demos that Wayne left behind, as well as some really great isolated vocal performances from some nearly finished songs. Together, we have been writing and crafting something very special!”

Check out a new teaser featuring clips from a brand new music video, as well as five new Static-X tracks – “Road To Hell”, “Something Of My Own”, “Terminator Oscillator”, “Hollow” and “Disco Otsego” – along with a personal message from bassist Tony Campos about the inspiration behind Project Regeneration:

For the unfinished tracks, the band is inviting several of their friends to lend their voices for the completion of this very personal project.

“We have confirmed interest from our friends David Draiman, Ivan Moody, Al Jorgensen, Dez Fafara, Edsel Dope, Burton C Bell, and a few others,” says Campos. “Unfortunately, due to everyone’s crazy schedules, it is a little early to know how things will shake out. We are more than confident that the album will have some incredible guest vocalists, but it should be noted that it is still too early to count anyone in 100%.”

The guest vocalist curation process is being led by none other than SiriusXM programming pioneer Jose Mangin, who is working alongside the band as one of the executive producers for Project Regeneration.

Static-X has created a pre-order campaign allowing fans who purchase Project Regeneration in advance to have their name appear in the liner notes of the new album. Additional special pre-order package options are also available, including Project Regeneration merch bundles and several old school Static-X merch items to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Wisconsin Death Trip. Pre-orders are available here.

“This is a celebration of Static-X, Wisconsin Death Trip, Wayne Static, and all of our fans,” adds Campos. “We are very excited about what we have created, so we wanted to involve the fans early, and in a campaign sort of way, so that they can participate with us and help to dictate some of the things that we do.”

“Reuniting with the guys has been an amazing experience,” says drummer Ken Jay. “It’s been so much fun sharing stories and working on new music together. Obviously, it is bittersweet because we all miss Wayne and we wish that he was here with us, doing what he did best… Evil Disco…”

“I am so excited to play Static-X songs live again,” says guitarist Koichi Fukuda. “The Static-X sound is so big and powerful live! I can’t wait to play songs like ‘Bled For Days’, ‘Push It’ and ‘I’m With Stupid’ again.”

Static-X plans to do multiple video updates and a series of Facebook Live chats over the next few months in order to keep the fans involved as the process continues to unfold.

“We feel very grateful that we have such a loyal fan base that misses the band, and misses Wayne, and I know that Wayne would appreciate all the heart and effort that we are putting into this,” says Tony Campos. “I’ve had some very heartfelt discussions with Wayne’s family about doing this. They were very touched by the amount of love and effort that we have put into this new album and they have given us their full support. Having the blessing of Wayne’s family means the world to us! I know in my heart that Wayne would be very proud!”

Stay tuned for more Project Regeneration and world tour details coming soon.

Epicus Doomicus Metallicus Singer Johan Langquist Returns To Candlemass

Singer Johan Langquist is back after a 32 year hiatus replacing Mats Levén who’s been with the band since 2012, occurring right in the middle of recording the new album.

The band stated the following:

“We wanted to find our way back to the roots of Candlemass, back to the soul and essence of the band. Johan Langquist is back and we hope this will give us some new energy and kickstart the heart of doom again. We don’t know if it will last 10 more years or even 5, but if it will give us just another year of having fun and playing the music that we love so much, it will be a blast! MaYaN Posts New Video, “Dhyana” Online

MaYaN have released a video for the title track of their upcoming Dhyana album, out on September 21st via Nuclear Blast. Watch the clip below, and pre-order the album here.

Dhyana: the moment when the individual mind is absorbed by the heart and melts with the universal mind.

Through his musical contributions in Epica, After Forever and MaYaN, Mark Jansen has introduced another piece of knowledge, spirituality and mystery into the Dutch metal scene. For the third time since their inception in 2010, the now 10-piece symphonic death metal band has joined forces for a new album, and their latest opus Dhyana is set to lift them to an entirely new level.

Mastermind Mark Jansen states: “We have worked with all our energy, efforts and passion to create a remarkable album. “Dhyana” (which means the moment when the mind gets absorbed by the heart) makes us all very proud and we can’t wait for it to be released. With the support of our loyal fans worldwide we were able to record the album with the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Because of this and also producer Joost van den Broek’s know-how and enormous motivational drive we were able to meet the high standards of the best productions of today. It’s needless to say that we are extremely excited!!!”

The concept of this third full-length release reflects on conceptual themes such as being self-aware of our thoughts and relinquishing our egos and self-conceited tendencies to finding out who we truly are.

Tracklisting:

1. The Rhythm Of Freedom
2. Tornado Of Thoughts – I Don’t Think Therefore I Am
3. Saints Don’t Die
4. Dhyana
5. Rebirth From Despair

Novareign Premiere New Song “Heavy Heart” From Upcoming New Album “Legends”

Novareign premiere a new single “Heavy Heart”, taken from their upcoming new album “Legends”, which will be out on February 16th via M-Theory Audio.

Check out now “Heavy Heart” below.

“’Heavy Heart’ is the collaborative of [former Exmortus guitarist] Balmore Lemus and [vocalist] David Marquez. While Lemus had stored the guitar melodies in his back pocket for years, lyrics composed by Marquez spawned the appropriate time for the song to make its outing into the world,” explains guitarist Danny Nobel. “It is no secret that the number of people who suffer from depression, anxiety, or anger is running rampant. It’s a heartbreaking topic that caught the eye of David, who felt that it was too important to be ignored, and deserved to be addressed. The lyrics remind anyone who suffers that they can always rise above the pain, to remember that they are not alone, and there is always a choice.”
