Soulfly plays Nailbomb’s “Point Blank” at Tampa Show on 11/01/2017

Those who follow closely the career of Brazilian Metal icon, Max Cavalera, know that Nailbomb’s “Point Blank” (his album collaboration with Fudge Tunnel’s Alex Newport) probably is one of the most in-your-face recordings the legendary musician has ever produced. That’s why Soulfly’s current American tour is so historically-poignant. The Cavalera’s fronted band is playing the aforementioned 1994 classic album in its entirety. Of course, this is a reason to rejoice.

Soulfly—along with fellow openers Lody Kong and Harm’s Way—visited one of Tampa Bay’s premier music venues, The Orpheum, on November 1. They played “Point Blank” from start to finish, castigating the audience with classic Nailbomb fare like the rabid “Wasting Away,” “24 Hour Bullshit”, “Vai Toma No Cú” and “Cockroaches,” among many others.

Even if the crowd was modest in numbers—let’s remember that it happened on a week day, just after Halloween—the response of those present was tremendously energetic. Cavalera commanded the show with his down-to-earth-yet-larger-than-life stage persona. Song after song, he and his band kept everyone on edge, chanting, moshing, singing along and living the mayhem. No doubt, this Brazilian icon and his comrades still are at the top of their musical powers.

During that night at the Orpheum, Soulfly managed to perfectly channel “Point Blank’s” sonic panache. They delivered the most punishing Metal performances witnessed by a Tampa Bay audience this year. If Soulfly visits your town during the remaining dates of this tour, make sure to go and see it. You will be blown away—Nailbomb style.

Vibrater Releases New Music Video for “Chameleon”

New York City hardcore leaders Vibrater – featuring founding members of industrial metal veterans Bile – just released their Jesse Ketive (ex-Emmure)-produced debut studio album, “New Era of Terror”, via Hong Kong label Nowed Records, and are set to perform two NYC-based shows next week – on October 29 at Revolution Bar & Music Hall and on Halloween, October 31, at Bowery Electric with Carnivore A.D.

In anticipation of these shows, Vibrater just released their latest music video for their new track “Chameleon”, cut from “New Era of Terror”. The clip was filmed and directed by Mike Zinn.

Watch it below:

Vocalist Kirk ‘Slash’ Farrington says:

“This track is about a guy we all used to be in a band with who, to be honest, was kind of a d**che and never gave anyone credit. We’ve all known someone like that in our lives, so hopefully our listeners can relate.”

“Mike Zinn has shot all of our videos thus far and totally gets us, plus he was a big fan of ours back in the day so it was easy for him to create an evolution for us on camera,” adds Farrington.

In addition to the above-mentioned shows, Vibrater just announced their upcoming US and European tours with NYC punk/hardcore legends Pro-Pain.Dates are still being confirmed, so more details will be announced soon.

New Song “Mutilation Mansion” Available From Acid Witch

Today, the ever-singular Acid Witch revealed the new song “Mutilation Mansion.” The song hails from the band’s third album “Evil Sound Screamers,” which will see digital release on Halloween via Hells Headbangers; the CD and vinyl LP formats shall be released by Hells Headbangers in the new year. Check out “Mutilation Mansion” in the player at the bottom.

Although their catalog is relatively sparse, Acid Witch should need no introduction. It’s been seven long years since the release of their classic second album “Stoned.” That album saw Acid Witch take the bewitching formula of the “Witchtanic Hallucinations” debut to greater, more entrancing lengths, swirling about a heady (and headfucking) brew of gutted doom-death riffage and spooky synth embellishments.

Now on “Evil Sound Screamers,” those synths don’t so much take a lead role as unite every thread across the record, flitting in and out of perception like a fever dream (or an LSD nightmare) and otherwise torquing all the gutsfucking riffs that now stomp ‘n’ sway with a rousingly anthemic quality. They are authentically analog synthesizers, too, just like the beloved sound design of those classic horror movies. Additionally, the acute placement of samples further threads everything together in a manner most filmic. And that’s to say nothing of the production here, which finds a hazy, crazy balance between murky and 3D.

Before you know it, the 38 minutes of “Evil Sound Screamers” is up and you’re immediately pressing “play” again and again. Now more than ever, there’s really no other band out there quite like Acid Witch: Evil Sound Screamers is the band’s magnum opus, and long may its reign continue. This is the season of the Witch!

The track listing is:

1. Scare Tape
2. Mr. Beistle
3. I Hate Halloween
4. Cheap Gore
5. Nain Rouge (The Red Dwarf)
6. Enter At Your Own Risk
7. Mutilation Mansion
8. Hardrock Halloween
9. Nightmares In A Damaged Brain
10. An Evil Sound Screaming

New Video Clip “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” Posted By Tarja

It may be early to ring in the season, but Tarja’s new single and video clip for the haunting version of “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” is more akin to Halloween than Christmas. Check out the clip in the player below.

The song is taken from the new album “From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas)” which will be released on November 17th via earMusic.

The album includes 11 Christmas classics and brings them to a never-before-seen level, uniquely blending Tarja’s classically-trained voice with darker gothic influences.

Besides covering classic carols, “From Spirits and Ghosts” also features a twelfth track, the brand new original song “Together.” This song is aligned with the dark sound of the album and embodies the theme of ghosts and mysticism throughout, in a brilliant, Tarja-styled manner.

The track listing is:

1. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
2. Together
3. We Three Kings
4. Deck The Halls
5. Pie Jesu
6. Amazing Grace
7. O Tannenbaum
8. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
9. God Rest Ye
10. Feliz Navidad
11. What Child Is This
12. We Wish You a Merry Christmas

Debut Self-Titled EP To Be Released By Lark

Progressive sludge/stoner metal band Lark is set to release the debut, self-titled album on October 31st. The band features former members of Bright Curse and Sail In Between.

Lark is the overdue collaboration of two French brothers, Raph, former guitarist and lead singer of Sail In Between and former bassist of Angher Incorporated and Zach, former drummer of Bright Curse. The elder resides in their native south of France, while the younger moved to London in 2009 to explore the UK music scene.

Zach evolved in the stoner, psyche and hard rock tones in recent years while Raph followed his love for hardcore and prog, but their tastes meet in a rock and metal avalanche of riffs, grooves and all that is heavy. They shared a vision of music that combines massive and textured sound with the groove of their early metal influence.

The two brothers rapidly found ways around the distance between them and started their first creative collaboration at the beginning of 2017. The EP came to life thanks to the help of Robin Mariat of Grey Matter Studio (Lyon, Fr), Chris Painter of Red Roof Sounds (London, Uk), Marco of Marc&Cheese (London, Uk) and Jake Read of Living Room Studios (London, Uk).

The band is set to release their first EP “Lark,” a new blend of metal inspired by Mastodon, Opeth, Gojira, Black Peaks, Russian Circles and more this fall. The D-day is set for Halloween 2017 when the extensive network of VIPs will meet and celebrate at a location not yet disclosed.
