The Crown lands on international charts with new album, ‘Cobra Speed Venom’

– March 28th, 2018 –

The Crown recently released their new album, Cobra Speed Venom, via Metal Blade Records; for their efforts, the band has now entered the international charts! See below for all positions:

#34 Official German Album Charts (Germany)
#99 Official Swiss Album Charts (Switzerland)
#26 Current Hard Music Albums (USA)
#41 Top New Artist Albums (USA)
#97 Record Label Independent Current Albums (USA)
#83 Top Hard Music Charts (Canada)

The Crown comments: “Really?? 34th most selling album in Germany last week? Entering Top 100 in Switzerland? Our raw untamed punkish styled Death/Thrash Metal?? I guess there’s hope for humanity after all! Or maybe this proves the opposite 😉 A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!”

To preview and purchase Cobra Speed Venom, please visit: metalblade.com/thecrown

With their motivation at an all-time high, The Crown spent most of 2017 intensely rehearsing 13 new songs. They eventually entered the classic Studio Fredman with Fredrik Nordstrom to record what would become their new album, Cobra Speed Venom. The sound is massive, brutal and a real punch in the face. Extreme speed and aggression mixed with classic heavy metal and rock n’ roll, which really shows that The Crown has no boundaries. The apocalyptic theme of the lyrics and music also fits perfectly with the outstanding artwork of Christian Sloan Hall.

After 27 years, the band is still motivated to create a classic piece of art – and together with Metal Blade Records once again, the vision is real.

The Crown live:
Apr. 13 – Dublin, Ireland – Voodoo Lounge
Apr. 14 – Leeds, UK – Wrath Fest
Apr. 15 – London, UK – The Underworld Camden
May 12 – Gothenburg, Sweden – Sticky Fingers
May 26 – Grangesberg, Sweden – Gamrocken
Oct. 6 – Hoogeveen, Netherlands – Graveland

The Crown line-up:
Johan Lindstrand – Vocals
Magnus Olsfelt – Bass
Marko Tervonen – Guitar
Robin Sorqvist – Lead guitar and backing vocals
Henrik Axelsson – Drums

Rivers of Nihil launches behind-the-scenes clip for latest video, “A Home”

– March 21st, 2018 –

Last week, Rivers of Nihil released their third full-length, Where Owls Know My Name, via Metal Blade Records, along with a video for the album track, “A Home”. Guitarist Jonathan Topore filmed a behind-the-scenes documentary of the video shoot for “A Home,” which can be seen now at: youtube.com/watch?v=dlZe-aXc4Ck

To watch “A Home” [directed by David Brodsky (www.davidsbrodsky.com)] and purchase Where Owls Know My Name, please visit: metalblade.com/riversofnihil

Where Owls Know My Name reunites Rivers of Nihil with Monarchy producer Carson Slovak (August Burns Red, The Last Ten Seconds of Life) and Dan Seagrave, the storied artist behind such celebrated album covers as Entombed‘s Left Hand Path and Suffocation‘s Effigy of the Forgotten. The result is the Reading, PA quintet’s most visceral, accomplished, and satisfying offering to-date.

Guitarist Brody Uttley comments:
“This record is Rivers of Nihil being exactly who we want to be. Many bands get stuck in a comfortable routine of releasing the same album over and over again. Constantly relying on the same familiar formula may work for some bands, but it does not work for us. Music is art, and art is ever-changing. Without change, there is no progress. Without progress, the very fire that powers art and expression will die. This record is the sound of where we come from, where we are, and where we are going.”

Adds bassist/vocalist Adam Biggs:
“This time around, the lyrics feel a little more personal than on previous albums. The story picks up several millennia after the events of ‘Monarchy‘, where one person still remains alive, chosen by the planet to be the sole intelligent witness of its ultimate fate. But ‘Where Owls Know My Name‘ is less about overarching narrative than our previous albums. The scenario is just a backdrop for the more emotional material we tried to put forth this time around. Ultimately, this is an album about loss, getting older, and reaching a point where death becomes a much more present part of your life.”

Ex-Judas Priest Guitarist K.K. Downing “Shocked And Stunned” He Wasn’t Approached To Rejoin The Band

Ex-Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing isn’t pleased that he wasn’t approached to fill in for Glenn Tipton, who was recently forced to step down from live shows due to his ongoing struggles with Parkinson’s disease. Judas Priest have since tapped producer/musician Andy Sneap to step in at their forthcoming live appearances.

K.K. retired from Judas Priest back in 2011 due to some differences in opinion with their management and was replaced by Richie Faulkner.Tells Downing in a recently shared statement:

“The news that Glenn has finally been forced to come to terms with his unfortunate condition long term came with deep regret and sadness for me. Equally, this ending of our guitar duo era is also something that I have to come to terms with.

The insatiable appetite that myself and Glenn had for creating inspired and unique music for the world to enjoy for many decades, is something that can never be erased. However, everyone who has witnessed the evolution of our beloved music must come to terms with the fact that things will inevitably change, or just simply end.

I have to state with great sadness also that I am shocked and stunned that I wasn’t approached to step into my original role as guitarist for Judas Priest. Whether I could have stepped back into the band or not, the potential for this situation arising never entered my head when I departed – although I too am officially and legally still a member of Judas Priest.

However, I know now more clearly than ever that I did the right thing by leaving the band when I did – as it seems that my time spent in the band, and my value in terms of crafting its huge legacy, was and is unappreciated by more than one member. I sincerely hope, for the fans’ sake, that the decision not to approach me was not a financial one.

I know Andy Sneap – and he is one of the greatest contributors to rock and metal that you will ever have the privilege to meet. To that end I have no doubt that his contribution to the new Judas Priest album was much more than just as a producer. All that’s left is for you the fans to go out and enjoy the band as it is, in order to complete a part of music history in which every one of you has played such an important role.

K.K.“

North Hammer Debut New Song “Wanderer” From Upcoming New Album “Stormcaller”

Created by Andrew James of Edmonton, AB’s Eye of Horus and Shotgunner, his new project, one man folk metal band NORTH HAMMER is drawing inspiration from the mighty Quorthon; for Andrew is not so much a one-man band as a one-warrior metal machine. Andrew wrote and recorded the guitar, bass, vocals, and orchestration along with drums done by Doug Helcaraxë Nunez for NORTH HAMMER’s forthcoming debut album “Stormcaller” set for release on March 16th, 2018.

Today NORTH HAMMER is premiering their next track “Wanderer”, which can be heard below:

Andrew explains the significance of his band’s name:

“The ‘north’ part was a representation of the common theme winter that comes up in metal music, including folk metal. It is also a reference to my native Canada. ‘Hammer’ is a reference to Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer!”

“The experience I’m trying to give the listeners is that of a fellow fan. I want people to be euphoric for other bands that mean something to them like Ensiferum, Wintersun and Amon Amarth. To connect personally with my music and realize that I love and worship these bands.” explains Andrew James.
