Rivers of Nihil launch live video for “Monarchy”

– February 16th, 2016 –

Set to kick off USA tour tomorrow with Black Fast and Dark Sermon

Ready to kick off their USA tour tomorrow (Feb. 17th) with Black Fast and Dark Sermon, Rivers of Nihil have now launched a live video for the track “Monarchy“, taken from their new album of the same name. Shot at a Los Angeles show this past November, the video can be viewed at: youtube.com

Rivers of Nihil will be touring in support of their recently released, sophomore album, Monarchy. Hailed as “the gold standard for extreme, technical, progressive, and passionate death metal right now” (HeavyBlogIsHeavy.com), Monarchy continues the seasonal concept that began with spring on Rivers of Nihil‘s acclaimed debut, The Conscious Seed of Light – this time, welcoming the oppressive summer heat. Adam Biggs, who also serves as the band’s primary lyricist, explains: “The Earth has been transformed into a vast desert wasteland, where after aeons of lifelessness, new beings begin to take shape and begin their journey as shepherds of the planet. But after a while, a class system forms from a sun-worshiping religious dictatorship, and these beings start to lose their way. Only the guidance of an ancient earthly force can help them save themselves as well the planet.”

Zodiac Unveils “Sonic Child” Album Artwork

The German rockers in Zodiac will issue new album “Sonic Child” in North America on September 30th via Prosthetic.

The follow-up to 2013’s “A Hiding Place” (named “album of the month” by Rock Hard late last year) was once again recorded at Megaphon Tonstudios with producer Martin Meinschafer. A new song will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

For now, the band has revealed the album’s enticing cover art by Sebastian Jerke (Audrey Horne, Long Distance Calling), seen below. The band commented, “The idea behind it is actually very simple: As a child, you hear music in its purest form. You do this without caring about a certain image, without looking at the band pictures, without thinking about fancy clothes or any other parameters; you just listen to the music and create your own vision of it. Nowadays, it seems for many bands that music isn’t the most important element anymore. That’s why we wrote a concept album about the love for music in general. It is our ‘Sonic Child,’ and we hope you’ll cherish it as much as we do. And with such a talented artist as Sebastian Jerke, we managed to find the perfect partner to visualize our thoughts. Here we go!”

Catch Zodiac on any of these upcoming live dates:

Slayer Announces Return Of Paul Bostaph

After the death of Jeff Hanneman, Slayer announced the band would continue touring Europe this Summer. The band has now checked in with the following announcement about recruiting Paul Bostaph as a new full-time member:

“Slayer’s Tom Araya and Kerry King are very pleased to announce that Paul Bostaph has rejoined the band on a full-time basis. Bostaph will be behind the drum kit beginning June 4 when Slayer kicks off the first leg of its 2013 international tour in Warsaw, Poland. Gary Holt will continue to fill in for fallen guitarist Jeff Hanneman.

“Slayer’s 2013 itinerary will have them playing 35 dates that will include headline shows as well as a number of major summer festivals in Europe, Eastern Europe and South America between June and October.

“Bostaph was Slayer’s drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band – the Gold certified Divine Intervention (1994), the 1996 punk covers album Undisputed Attitude, Diabolus in Musica, (1998), God Hates us All (2001) that received a Grammy nomination for “Best Metal Performance,” as well as the DVD War at the Warfield (2001), also certified Gold. In addition to Slayer, Bostaph has been a member of Forbidden, Exodus, Systematic and Testament.”

“Paul’s a great drummer and a good friend, and we’re very happy that he’s decided to rejoin the band,” said Tom Araya. “We’re still pretty numb from the loss of Jeff, but we don’t want to disappoint our European fans, and we need to begin moving forward…having Paul back in the band makes that a whole lot easier.”

“I’m very excited to be rejoining Slayer,” added Bostaph. “We spent a very intense ten years of our lives together, had a lot of fun, made a lot of great music, so for me, this feels like coming home.”

Underoath Disbanding, Announces Farewell Tour And Anthology Album

Underoath is formally announcing plans to disband following the band’s 15-year career. “It’s sad to say that we feel like it’s time to close this chapter, but we have never seen things more clearly,” says vocalist Spencer Chamberlain. “These have been the best years of my entire life, and I owe that to every single person who ever supported this band along the way. This wasn’t a quick decision by any means. It’s just time for us to move on.”

The Tampa, Florida-based group released seven albums in total – including the Gold-certified mid-2000s releases “They’re Only Chasing Safety” and “Define the Great Line” – that collectively yielded Grammy and Dove Award nominations and total sales in excess of 1.3 million units.

Underoath will cap its run with the release of a career retrospective album, “Anthology 1999-2013” this coming November 6th on Solid State Records. With tracks culled from the 1999 debut, “Act of Depression,” through 2010’s “Ø (Disambiguation),” the “Anthology 1999-2013” release is an essential collection of songs that celebrates the evolution of the band. The release also gives fans one last chance to hear newly recorded material in the form of new tracks “Sunburnt” and “Unsound,” recorded with longtime producer Matt Goldman.

“Over the past decade or so of our lives, we have been able to live a dream traveling the world, playing music that excites us, and meeting more amazing people than we could have ever fathomed,” says keyboardist Chris Dudley. “This couldn’t be a more bittersweet moment for us. We have accomplished more, met more friends, seen more places and have just done more than we could have ever imagined, and we really wanted to just go out on the highest note possible. That’s why we have put together a group of great friends and musicians for what will be our final tour ever. We are taking every moment of this tour as an opportunity to say goodbye to you all, as well as celebrate what has taken place over all these years. The love we have and the debt of gratitude that we owe to all of you is not able to be measured in any way.”

That farewell tour will commence in 2013 with further details to be announced next week. “We don’t take this very lightly and it’s heartbreaking for all of us,” Chamberlain says of the band’s announcement, “but all good things must come to an end. We love all of you and hope to see you again soon.”

The anthology track listing is:

1. Sunburnt
2. Unsound
3. In Division
4. Catch Myself Catching Myself
5. Paper Lung
6. Desperate Times, Desperate Measures
7. Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear
8. In Regards To Myself

12. Reinventing Your Exit
