Sun Of The Sleepless Premieres New Song “The Owl” From Upcoming New Album “To the Elements”

Black metal unit Sun Of The Sleepless premieres a new song entitled “The Owl”, taken from the upcoming new album “To the Elements”, which will be released by Prophecy Productions in a variety of formats: as a digipak CD (with a 12-page booklet), a gatefold LP (on both black and limited silver vinyl), and as a collector’s 2xCD box (which includes the digipak CD, the out-of-print 1999 MCD Poems To The Wretches Hearts in a cardsleeve, a patch, and an autographed, hand-numbered certificate in a hotfoil-embossed box).

Check out now “The Owl” below.

Explains Sun Of The Sleepless:

“‘The Owl‘ is actually the first song that was written and recorded for the album. The verse riff/main theme of this song was the spark that lit the fire, so to speak. This was also the first song I recorded the drums for and it made me realize that Black Metal drumming is even more exhausting than I remembered it to be from — wait…18 years ago. ‘The Owl‘ is a hymn to the nocturnal self. The Owl as a symbol for individuality (in German we use the word “Kauz” — tawny owl — to describe a pariah) but also wisdom, superiority — the unrelenting spirit of the night. Musically, I really wanted to have this ‘lonesome nighttime atmosphere’ to be the absolute focus of this song. It draws elements from Empyrium (how come?), old The 3rd and the Mortal, Emperor and influences by some of the more melodic Swedish Black Metal Bands too. One of my favorites for sure. Sublime, free, forever at night — The Owl”

New Music Video “Desperate Cry” Issued By Soul Demise

The latest single from “Thin Red Line” has taken shape in the form of a music video for “Desperate Cry” from German melodic death metal act Soul Demise. The album was issued back in May via Apostasy Records.

The band commented: “Times are rough. Underneath the human surface, so many negative emotions are being buried. A hard shell is growing on it, seemingly unbreakable. If all this negativity explodes in a desperate cry, it will often be too late for anyone to hear it.”

For the video, Soul Demise teamed up with Jörg Harms from Black Vision Films to capture the mood of the song and add strong images to it. Check it out here:

New Album “Fungi From Yugotth” Announced By Terrible Old Man

After the 2015 debut “Cosmic Poems,” German hard rock/metal act Terrible Old Man returns with “Fungi From Yugotth,” an album inspired by the work of H. P. Lovecraft. The album will be issued this summer via MDD Records, with more details to follow.

Fall Of Summer Adds Cattle Decapitation And More To 2017 Lineup

The Fall of Summer team is excited to reveal five new bands the impending 2017 line-up, with the festival’s organizers commenting:

“Let’s get started with a very important project to us, as French metalheads and heavy metal lovers, with a tribute band to the cult heavy metal group Sortilege! Before giving you more details soon, we are very proud to tell you that some original members of the band will come on stage for the occasion!

“Still heavy metal to the core, let’s raise our fist and start the rebellion together with German legends Grave Digger! It’s also a great pleasure for us to welcome the cult American thrash metal band Toxik for a first show in France.

“Last but not least we are glad to announce two great American death metal bands, with grind death masters of Cattle Decapitation and veterans from Broken Hope, who reformed 5 years ago with Jeremy Wagner joined by vocalist Damian Leski from Gorgasm and other talented musicians, without stopping by the Paris area at all. They had to, at some point, and we’re glad it will be at Fall of Summer 2017!”

Abhorrent Decimation Unveils New Album “The Pardoner”

London-based extreme death metal group Abhorrent Decimation is prepared to release sophomore album, “The Pardoner,” hitting digital and physical retailers worldwide on July 28th, 2017 via Prosthetic Records.

The 10 track, 50 minute opus was recorded, mixed and mastered by bassist David Archer at Audio Empire. The intricate artwork for “The Pardoner” was created by German illustrator Karmazid, based on a visual concept by Vocalist Ashley Scott.

Conceptually, the album is an in-depth exploration into the Pardoner, English poet Geoffrey Chaucer’s most depraved and deceitful character from The Canterbury Tales. The Pardoner is a religious fraud and hypocrite who preaches against the love of greed, yet whose own love of wealth enabled him to profit off the sins of others.

He claimed to work on behalf of the clergy, selling spiritual forgiveness for one’s sins in the form of his pardons, which included forged “official letters” from high ranking church officials absolving one of their sins and bones and crystals blessed with healing powers. In Chaucer’s story, the Pardoner tells a harrowing tale of three men whose materialism becomes the death of them.

Vocalist Ashley Scott comments on the lyrical content of the album: “Lyrically, the album opens with a scene setter. Pardoners would often operate with a partner called a Soothsayer. A Soothsayer would visit a town prior to The Pardoner’s arrival. It was his job to stir locals up regarding their sins and the repercussions thereof. He would advise people that if they could find a Pardoner, they should do so and atone for their sins by buying a pardon or indulgence.

“Tracks 2 to 7 are the story The Pardoner tells of the three men, avarice and Death. In many places throughout tracks 2 to 7, I actually use Middle English turn of phrase. In some places, I have used my own interpretation and translations of Chaucer’s work and in other places; I introduced some of my own narrative and details. The idea was to create an obvious storytelling feel to this section, with word play and rhyme playing a major role in what I did, as I wanted to ring as true to the original as possible. Track 8 is my own conclusion of the inexorable nature of death and greed. Track 9 is an instrumental and then the record closes with Track 10, The Pardoner. A sort of self damning, confessionary monologue.”

1. Soothsayer
2. Heretic Sacrifice
3. Votive Offerings
4. Granted Indulgence
5. Black Candle Gathering
6. Conspire
7. A Glass Coffin Burial
8. The Scythe in the Dark
9. Host
10. The Pardoner

Get your first taste with the video clip for “Courageous Minds,” seen at the bottom of the article.
