Amon Amarth launches live video for “Twilight of the Thunder God”

– October 5th, 2018 –

Taken from new documentary and live album(s), ‘The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm’

On November 16th, Amon Amarth will release their new documentary and supporting live album(s), The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm – which includes a retrospective documentary that features a wealth of live and behind-the-scenes content and extensive band interviews. This film tells the Swedish quintet’s history, through both their own eyes and those of the fans that have supported them along the way. It is a thrilling collection that pays respect to the faithful, as well as making for a detailed and riveting introduction for those new to their inspiring story. Paired with this documentary is the live video/audio, which contains two different sets at 2017′s Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany, capturing the unit at their very best.

Having played the German festival numerous times over the years, and loving the family vibe they have always experienced there, Amon Amarth leapt at the chance to appear twice in the same year. Playing a secret, smaller scale set that focused primarily on older material, and then headlining the main stage with full production – including their giant sea serpent and lots of fire – allowed them to showcase their songs at their best – though putting together setlists from such a mighty catalogue was not the easiest of tasks. “For the first night, we wanted to write a set that the fans would enjoy by wholly diving into our back catalog but also keeping it interesting,” explains guitarist Olavi Mikkonen. “But putting the two shows together also made us realize that we have a lot of songs to choose from!”

For the band, producer Alexander Milas (who contributed to Kerrang! and was an award-winning editor-in-chief of Metal Hammer, before starting his own creative solutions company, Twin V Ltd.) and director Phil Wallis, The Pursuit Of Vikings has been a true labor of love. “I think I first became conscious of Amon Amarth around the release of 2002′s ‘Versus the World‘,” Milas states. “It was a really transitional time for metal, and it seemed there wasn’t a credible band on the heavier end of the scale that hadn’t in some way responded to or been influenced by the pioneering sounds of the Swedish death metal scene, but I distinctly remember thinking that there was something unique about these guys: the artwork, the thematic underpinnings, even that curiously timeless logo.” While their sound certainly displays strong echoes of the nation that birthed them, Amon Amarth arguably wield a unique aura, a “lusciously crafted escapism” that Milas likens to the classic bands he grew up with: Dio, Iron Maiden, and others who exist on a spectrum of their own making.

For a preview of The Pursuit Of Vikings, a live video of “Twilight of the Thunder God” can be viewed now at: amonamarth.lnk.to/pursuitofvikings – where the DVD/live album can also be pre-ordered in the following formats via Metal Blade Records in the USA:

Skull Pit (feat. Mem of Exumer and Tatsu of Church Of Misery) reveals details for debut self-titled album

– September 25th, 2018 –

Launches “Fire Breather” video

On November 16th, Metal Blade Records will finally release Skull Pit, the debut album of the American/Japanese collaboration Skull Pit!

Skull Pit is a tale of two musicians from opposite sides of the heavy metal spectrum and the planet: Tatsu, hailing from Tokyo/Japan, is the bassist and mastermind behind the internationally acclaimed doom outfit Church Of Misery; Mem, from New York/USA, is the singer and front-man of German thrash pioneers Exumer!

For a preview of Skull Pit, the video for the first single, “Fire Breather”, can be viewed at: metalblade.com/skullpit – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–ltd. Digipak-CD
–180 g black vinyl
–silver/black marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
–red/black marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
–gold/black splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – EU-exclusive)
–gold/silver splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – US-exclusive)

Skull Pit vocalist Mem comments: “This album perfectly captures the entire spectrum of what we were passionate about as youths and now as adults: unfiltered, honest and straight-forward heavy metal.
The ‘Fire Breather’ video clip basically combines all the key elements of Skull Pit‘s global sonic attack in every frame. Shot in and around the desert of Las Vegas/Nevada, the clip was edited by known Japanese director Kazuaki Kimura, who immediately came on board after listening to the Skull Pit album!”

The two veterans endeavored to combine their favorite elements of bands like Motorhead along with the countless outfits of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal into one blistering and highly energetic nine-track album. The songs on Skull Pit‘s debut are a clear departure from what Exumer or Church Of Misery usually sound like. Stepping away from Exumer‘s lighting fast rhythms and Church of Misery‘s slowed down, Iommi-inspired riffs, Skull Pit creates melodies in the vein of 70s hard rock and 80s NWOBHM with Lemmy’s punk attitude.

Mixed in Tokyo by O-mi Kihara, Skull Pit was recorded in New York and Japan during Exumer‘s and Church of Misery‘s time off from playing live around the globe. The result is a free-flowing album that switches effortlessly between genres and boundaries, but always with the intent to deliver a razor sharp riff or a memorable hook.

Skull Pit didn’t shy away from further expanding their all-inclusive attitude when it came to choosing and recording a cover song as a bonus track: Rose Tattoo‘s “All the Lessons”. The song features Brian “Mitts” Daniels (ex-Madball), who produced Mem’s vocal tracks in New York.

Skull Pit track-listing
1. Double Cross
2. Roller
3. Fire Breather
4. Year Of The Dog
5. Soul Raiders
6. Blood Titan
7. Marauders
8. The Line
9. Wolf Spirit
10. All The Lessons (bonus track)

Grave Digger Posts New Video, “Zombie Dance” Online

It might be the most surprising song Grave Digger has ever released. After nearly four decades of true German heavy metal, the time has come to reach out to different musical influences. After listening to “Zombie Dance” we know for sure that Polka and Metal fit perfect together. This collaboration with their labelmates Russkaja will make you dance, especially when it’s played live on their upcoming “Tour Of The Living Dead”. Be aware!

Chris Boltendahl on “Zombie Dance”:
“Polka and Metal – is that fitting? With “Zombie Dance” we are opening the gate to hell for every incarnate, true metalhead and Grave Digger fan. But to be honest … the symbiosis between Metal and Polka turns out to be perfect and calls on everyone to dance and headbang. You wanted PARTY – you’ve got it !!! With “Zombie Dance” and its video we give you a late summer hit in 2018. Whoever stands still or remains seated while this song is played is already dead or not born yet!!”

The thing is we wanted to continue the Demons & Wizards thing, but with Iced Earth and Blind Guardian, we’re very busy people, and our schedules… it’s just one of those times right now where the holes are lining up in the right way for us to be able to commit to shows next summer. So it’s cool.”
