White Arms Of Athena To Release New Album

White Arms Of Athena recently recorded the band’s sophomore Prosthetic effort at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou (Every Time I Die, High On Fire, Kvelertak).

The as-yet-untitled album — expected to be released later this year — will be mixed by Ballou, engineered and co-produced by Travis Kammeyer (Storm of Light, Generation of Vipers) and mastered by Alan Douches (Baroness, The Dillinger Escape Plan).

White Arms Of Athena’s forthcoming album proceeds in a new direction from the 2011 full-length debut “Astrodrama,” featuring a mélange of experimental progressive passages with a psychedelic-infused ambience.

The band, which has previously shared the stage with acts including Arsonists Get All The Girls, Katalepsy, Fallujah, The Contortionist, The Ocean, East of the Wall, Holy Grail and Baring Teeth, will release further information on the upcoming release in the coming weeks.

USX Announces New Tour Dates

Appalachian masters of dark psychedelia, USX (formerly U.S. Christmas), will take to the road this week for a run of shows through the Southeastern U.S. states alongside local brethren Generation Of Vipers.

The five-city run begins on Wednesday, July 17th in Asheville followed by Athens, Atlanta, Savannah, and Columbia through next weekend. The two acts are to share the stage with Sons of Tonatiuh, Across Tundras, and more throughout the trek.

Stated USX founder Nate Hall of the trek: “We are anticipating some good hot and sweaty shows with our good friends Generation of Vipers, Sons of Tonatiuh, and some cool new southern bands. We are hitting some of our favorite cities and it would be cool to see a ton of people come out. As always, we will play as loud and hard as we can. And we are LOADED with merch.”

7/17/2013 The Boiler Room – Asheville, NC
7/18/2013 Flicker – Athens, GA
7/19/2013 529 – Altanta, GA w/ Sons of Tonatiuh, Across Tundras
7/20/2013 The Jinx – Savannah, GA
7/21/2013 Jakes – Columbia, SC

The following press release was also issued about the band: “A six-pack of talented musicians, USX, having converted the name from their initial moniker U.S. Christmas, is a long-running and major element to the Neurot Recordings roster, with a plethora of LPs and other releases as well as Nate Hall’s maiden solo effort on the label’s roster. The latest USX studio effort, the epic The Valley Path, was released via Neurot in mid-2011, the expansive album consisting of one mammoth, nearly forty-minute track of esoteric beauty, showcasing the sextet’s uneasily-classified folk and psyche-driven rock at its most expansive yet.”

Uriah Heep Bass Player, Trevor Bolder Passes Away

British hard rock legends Uriah Heep have announced that bass player, Trevor Bolder, has passed away after a lengthy fight with cancer. He was sixty two years old.

Bolder was previously a member of David Bowie’s band, The Spiders From Mars, before joining Uriah Heep in 1976 and remaining with the group until earlier this year when his health forced him to take a break. A message from his bandmates reads as follows:

“It is with great sadness that Uriah Heep announce the passing of our friend the amazing Trevor Bolder, who has passed away after his long fight with cancer. Trevor was an all time great, one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced.

“His long time membership of Uriah Heep brought the band’s music, and Trevor’s virtuosity and enthusiasm, to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world. He joined the band in 1976 and, barring one short break, was a fixture until his ill health forced him to take a step back early this year. Prior to joining Heep he was a founder and ever-present member of David Bowie’s legendary Spiders From Mars band, performing on all of their key albums and at countless shows. He also performed with Wishbone Ash, Cybernauts and The Rats.”

Guitarist Mick Box added: “Trevor was a world class bass player, singer and songwriter, and more importantly a world class friend. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and rock fans all over the world. We are all numb to the core.”

Crashdiet Announces New Album "The Savage Playground" Release

Swedish sensation Crashdiet is returning with fourth album “The Savage Playground,” due out on January 25th in Europe on Frontiers and January 22nd in North America. The lead single “Cocaine Cowboys” is set for release on December 12th. The following press release was also issued about the band:

“A leading force in the Swedish ‘sleaze rock’ scene of the 2000s — a revival of the glam metal of the 1980s, but with a more pronounced punk element — Crashdiet for the first time manage to release their brand of down and dirty Rock and Roll simultaneously all over the world.

“In April of 2010 the band’s third album ‘Generation Wild’ pretty much summed up the extraordinary but yet tragic history of a band, determined to never give up their dream. Crashdiet has become known as a band with a huge following of diehard fans, and the massive interest for them never seems to fade.

“There has been extensive touring during the course of ‘Generation Wild’ and the absolute highlight saw the band conquer Hollywood and New York City with sold out shows at Whisky A Go Go and Webster Hall. The band also supported their heroes Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne.

“With the new studio album ‘The Savage Playground,’ recorded during summer/autumn 2012 in native Sweden, the band has their minds set to break through on a world-wide basis with a tour that will see the band going back to the US as well as going to Japan for the first time.”

“Supporting Motley Crue in Helsinki and headlining Whisky A Go Go have been the highlights of the Generation Wild tour,” says guitarist Martin Sweet. “We will put a lot of effort into the US for our new tour. We will start in Scandinavia in February, Then we head to the US & Canada. Coming back end of April to do UK and then Europe and Japan will follow with Festivals in the summer and then South-America to kick off in the autumn.”

Sweet goes on to discuss the new album: “The Savage Playground is our playground, its the beginning and the end, its the place where we eat and breed. We thought the time was right for us to do a edgier and not so polished sounding album, kinda like what we sound like live. It’s more organic and rough sounding. And of course we’re always evolving as musicians and like to try new ways of expressing ourselves, and that can most definitely be heard this album.”
