At The Gates Recruits New Guitarist Jonas Stålhammar, Announces Album Release

Swedish melodic death metal group At The Gates is now in the final stages of preparation for an upcoming new album, following 2014’s comeback release, “At War With Reality” (reviewed here).

After the departure of founding guitarist Anders Björler in March, the group is not only ready to give a comprehensive update on the new album’s status, but can also now announce the newest addition to the At The Gates line-up. The Swedes comment:

“We have finally decided on a new guitar player, and we are ready to rip again! Actually he was our first choice, and we are happy to have him on board. Jonas Stålhammar has been a friend since the late eighties (Tomas used to tape trade with him back then!), and our paths have crossed many times during our careers.

“We were looking for someone who had the same reference points as we do, someone from the same path, so to say, who understand the greatness of both Autopsy and King Crimson. Of course it was essential that our new member could fill the shoes of Anders’ performance-wise as well, but that was never an issue with Jonas. We were looking for someone with a deep understanding of what At The Gates are about, someone who could contribute creatively to the band.

“Jonas Stålhammar will be a full member from day one, and will play on the upcoming full length album, scheduled for recording in November 2017 – January 2018. We currently have 11 songs ready for said album, and are more inspired than perhaps ever before. You can expect a full-on At The Gates record with all the classic elements of the band. It is by far the most comprehensive album of the band to date, and will span all the way across the different elements of the band’s sound. We are super-excited for 2018. It will be a good year for At The Gates, and our fans, for sure.”

Adrian Erlandsson – Drums
Jonas Björler – Bass
Tomas Lindberg – Vocals
Jonas Stålhammar – Guitar

Zebulon Kosted Teases New Album “You Have No Race You Have No Culture”

Following a self-titled cassette release last year via Al Hadid Records, Zebulon Kosted is about to return with a new album titled “You Have No Race You Have No Culture.” Today a 5+ minute sample has come online from the release, which will be made available through Tetraktys Media and Hammerkrieg Productions on June 6th, 2017.

Listen in below, or you can download the track excerpt for free at Bandcamp here. Zebulon Kosted comments on the upcoming album:

“Spend money, have children and uphold the status quo or you will be ostracized. Why would you need to question the value of globalization, urbanization and industrialization when it has brought progress and freedom to the peoples of the world? You have no race.

“Humans all come from the same source and have all procreated with different peoples from different places for thousands of years. You have no culture. Culture has been supplanted in the regional sense by cell phone, fast food, sweat shop clothes and tabloid media distractions. We are one. We must destroy the wealthy few who continue to enslave us.”

“The Devil’s Candy” Is The Most Metal Movie Of 2017

Metal fans who dig horror movies take note: this is seriously the most metal movie you are going to see this year. Although originally released in 2015, “The Devil’s Candy” wasn’t available in America until yesterday and is out now via all the various VOD platforms.

From the same director as the utterly demented (in a very good way) “The Loved Ones,” this follow-up flick from Sean Byrne features a metalhead dad and daughter caught in a very bad situation when the family buys a house with a nefarious past.

Heavy metal is essentially its own character in the film, and you’ll see all kinds of nods to bands from Sunn O))) to Isis and of course the more well known like Metallica and Ghost.

“Many Waters” Compilation To Benefit Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

“Many Waters,” a new compilation produced by Thou with help from Thrill Jockey, is due to be released on January 30th, with proceeds going to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to assist efforts in aiding those affected by the Louisiana floods of August 2016.

The compilation features a range of exclusive tracks from acclaimed metal acts as well as Louisiana DIY mainstays, including The Body & Full of Hell covering Devo, Thou covering Neil Young, special live tracks from Sumac and Old Man Gloom, and a solo live recording by Mike Scheidt of Yob.

Thou drummer Joshua Nee comments: “I spent the better part of three weeks after the flood driving around neighborhoods looking for homes to help out. Every day after work and pretty much all day on the weekends was spent gutting damaged homes. A practice space we had been sharing with a slew of other bands was totally wrecked, and countless bands I know had their spaces and equipment destroyed.

“When Mitch was getting this benefit together, he asked what organization would make sense to donate to. I told him the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, as they had been really amazing and helpful during the aftermath of the flood, and they themselves had even been completely flooded out.

“I was thrilled to have so many local Louisiana bands on the compilation. All of those bands come from the same DIY community based background. Punk, pop, metal, whatever. They represent all kinds of music, but they all come from a similar, supportive culture.”

AC/DC Taps Axl Rose As Permanent Singer & Guns N’ Roses To Tour With Vince Neil This Summer

There have been some rumors circulating recently that Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has been tapped to finish out the postponed dates of AC/DC‘s North American tour. TMZ – as reported earlier this week – have photographed Axl Rose and members of AC/DC emerging from the same rehearsal studio in Atlanta, GA this past weekend.

Today both bands have made a surprising official joint statement, announcing Axl Rose as permanent new AC/DC frontman and revealing also retired Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil as Guns N’ Roses’ new vocalist. The move comes as a result of AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson being forced to stop touring by his doctor or risk permanent hearing loss.

Vince Neil will be already performing with Guns N’ Roses on the band’s upcoming 2016 Summer Tour. AC/DC’s North American Tour will be rescheduled and new dates announced next week.

Read all details about Guns N’ Roses’ and AC/DC’s official joint statement now on TMZ HERE.

Lord Mantis Posts New Song “SIG Safer”

Chicago extreme metal band Lord Mantis will release a new EP titled “NTW” on April 29th via New Density. Today you can also hear a track off the release – check out “SIG Safer” below.

Recorded at Bricktop Recording with engineer Andy Nelson (Weekend Nachos, Like Rats) and mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room (Windhand, YOB, Voivod), the release features searing new songs that build on the music of the group’s 2014 LP, “Death Mask” (Profound Lore).

“NTW” marks the recording debut of the new Lord Mantis line-up, which now features vocalist Dylan O’Toole and bassist Will Lindsay — each formerly of Indian– and guitarist Scott Shellhamer (also of American Heritage) joining the core of guitarist Andrew Markuszewski and drummer Bill Bumgardner.

“The music delves to and draws from the same place Lord Mantis has always drawn from; taking the most vicious aspects of the beast and shoving that in everyone’s face,” comments Markuszewski. “The songs can move anywhere. You have moments on this recording that go from fervent aggression to areas more nauseous and grimey. Every time we write new music we’re more confident than before with what we’re doing. The sound and technique of Lord Mantis is second nature to us, but we’re also never afraid to explore new territory with it.”

Debut Album “The Enemy Within” Detailed By Mindwars

Mindwars released further details for the upcoming debut release “The Enemy Within.” The album is now set to drop on October 27th via Punishment 18 Records. The album’s track listing can be found below.

Mindwars was created in the Fall of 2013 by the desire of two individuals who wanted to bring the sound of metal from the 1980’s to the current power of 2014. Mike Alvord, formerly of Holy Terror, and Roby Vitari, formerly of Jester Beast, met by chance in 1989 when Holy Terror was touring Europe in support of the classic 1988 release “Mind Wars.” Roby, originally from Southern Italy in the region of Calabria, discovered that he had similar roots as Mike, being that his grandparents are from the same region. Approximately 25 years later, Mike and Roby reconnected through the internet and discussed creating something musically that they both believe has been lost. The result is Mindwars, an 80s rebirth of speed/thrash metal with influences ranging from Black Sabbath to NWOBHM to Soundgarden.

The track listing for “The Enemy Within”

1. Upside Down
2. Death Comes Twice
3. Final Battle
4. Masters Of War
5. Chaos
6. Crash
7. Speed Kills
8. Retrobution
9. Lost
10. Time In The Machine
11. Walking Alone
