Former Vital Remains Vocalist Jake Raymond Has Passed Away

Ex-Vital Remains live vocalist Jake Raymond has died. As also mentioned by the group’s guitarist Tony Lazaro below, both former vocalists Scott Wily and Chris Ross both passed last year:

“I found out late yesterday some very sad news that a old friend and Vital Remains singer passed away. His name was Jake Raymond, and he was a good friend! Some of you might remember Jake was VR’s vocalist back in 2001 before we recorded Dechristianize album. He really loved the band and always held us in high regard.

Even though i hadn’t spoken or seen Jake in a few years i always hope things were going good for him. I remember the last time i saw him he came out to one of our local shows in Providence and we had fun catching up and talking about the good old days! We laughed alot that night and i remember he started helping me sell merch and asked if i needed any help?

You were always trying to help bro and i wish i could have helped you bro. Thank you for that and everything else you did for me!! I will always remember the good times we had brother! This is really so sad. I’m sick of losing so many friends this year. This makes three Vital Remains singers that passed in the last year.

Three brothers i will not forget! Thank you Jake for your friendship and all your help when i needed it! Thank you for all your work with the band!! I wish i could have been there for you more brother, but we kind of took different paths. I hope you are at peace now. Rest easy brother and until we meet again. My Deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP Jake“

Bloodclot Signs With Metal Blade Records

Bloodclot (featuring current and former members of the Cro-Mags, Queens of the Stone Age, Danzig) just signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records.

While being the leader of one of the most influential hardcore bands of all time – the Cro-Mags – John Joseph is also an author, an outspoken advocate of plant-based nutrition, and a competitive Ironman tri-athlete.

Todd Youth – who played in Agnostic Front at the age of 12 – has played guitar with a myriad of artists, including Danzig, Glen Campbell, Motorhead, Ace Frehley, and many more. Additionally, Nick Oliveri has played bass in Queens of the Stone Age, alongside one of the most sought-after drummers in the scene, Joey Castillo – who has also sat behind the kit for Danzig and Eagles Of Death Metal.

These four renowned musicians came together when Cro-Mags guitarist AJ Novello was unable to play a show, and John Joseph called Todd Youth to fill-in for him. The two rekindled their friendship and enjoyed playing together so much that a decision was made to re-form Bloodclot (whose origins date back to a 1981 Bad Brains tour). Todd began the songwriting process, and soon after, Joey Castillo and Nick Oliveri were recruited to join the band.

With the new line-up in place, and songs to record, Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel offered Bloodclot a worldwide deal. In regards to the signing, Brian Slagel comments: “Super excited to be working with these legends! The material is fresh and what you would expect from such an amazing group! Thanks to Tal Ronnen of Crossroads Kitchen for his help on this too!”

Bloodclot plans to release upcoming album, “Up In Arms,” in the spring of 2017, with worldwide touring to follow. Stay tuned for more details coming soon. The band’s lineup consists of:

John Joseph (Cro-Mags) – Vocals
Todd Youth (ex-Danzig) – Guitars
Nick Oliveri (ex-Queens of the Stone Age) – Bass
Joey Castillo (ex-Queens of the Stone Age, ex-Danzig) – Drums

Thy Art Is Murder Parts With Vocalist CJ

Australian outfit Thy Art Is Murder just posted the following message online about parting ways with vocalist CJ McMahon:

“After much conjecture and ambiguity on his behalf, it is with a heavy heart that we must announce today that CJ is no longer a part of Thy Art Is Murder. We have worked so hard from day one to make this band what it is now, and develop the reputation that we have and he had been there with us every step of the way.

“We like to think that even if someone doesn’t like our music that they can at least respect our work ethic. This band has taken us to places we never thought we would see and to share stages with many bands we never thought we would get to play with or meet, let alone call friends. It is unfortunate that with our best year to date and our biggest paved out before us that he has decided to leave.

“All this being said, touring as hard as we do does take its toll on you physically, but more importantly mentally and emotionally. We are an underground metal band, and have been so fortunate over the last two years to carve out a small income thanks to so many dedicated and generous fans around the world. For some people, it comes to a turning point in their life where that income is no longer enough for their personal goals, and that point has come for CJ. We would like to wish him all our best as he leaves the band and moves onward to start a family and new life with his loving fiancée.

“The four of us are continuing forward into 2016 for some of the biggest and best tours of our lives. We won’t be slowing down or missing any shows. We head back out next month with Parkway Drive and Architects throughout Europe and the UK and will be taking one of our favourite vocalists with us, Nick Arthur from Molotov Solution.

“Thy Art is what we have done with all of our adult lives and we have put absolutely everything we have into the band and the friendship between the four of us. That friendship and drive to create extreme music is what has kept us together through thick and thin. Unfortunately not everyone can share this fire.”

Voice Of Ruin Parts Ways With Drummer

Voice Of Ruin just issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band’s long-time drummer:

“After more than 7 years (since the beginning of the band), our dear drummer Olivier has decided to put an end to his journey in Voice of Ruin. It came as a shock to us, especially to me, as we founded the band together with Nils in late 2008.

“As of today, Olivier has different goals than the rest of the band and he choose to step down rather than preventing the project to move on. As you can imagine, being in a band like Voice Of Ruin takes quite some time and requires a lot of sacrifices and dedication. We respect his decision as band members and above all as FRIENDS!

“We wish him all the best with his futur musical ventures. Be assured that we will stay in touch and maintain this friendship that we’ve nurtured for so many years! Meanwhile go check his rock band The Mudcats!

“We won’t cancel any show as Olivier will continue to fulfill his role as drummer until we find the right guy (thank you buddy). We already have a few guys interested by the gig and we will start the audition process next week. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to send us your application.
More updates soon!”

Urizen Parts With Drummer Julio Escamilla

Texas band Urizen just issued the following statement online about parting ways with the group’s drummer:

“Friends, it is with sadness that we announce that we are parting ways with our long-time brother, drummer, and co-founding Urizen member Julio Escamilla. We have reached a point where our lives are leading us in different directions, and it is no longer possible for Julio to continue on with the band.

“We are parting on good terms, and there are no words to express the value that Julio has brought to this project with his skills as a drummer, his friendship, and his commitment to furthering the UriCause throughout the years. Be on the lookout for his insanely fast feet to show up in new and exciting musical projects very soon!

“We would also like to announce that we will be joined on all upcoming endeavors by our good buddy Nolan McCormick, who filled in behind the kit for Julio during our 25-date tour with Psychostick and Downtown Brown this past spring. Nolan brings his own set of killer skills to the table, and we’re looking forward to continuing to rock with him as we barrel down this crazy robo-filled path we’re on!

“We’ve got lots of fun stuff to share with you all soon, but for now, please join us in thanking Julio for everything he’s done for this band since we first jammed on Dimmu Borgir covers with him all those years ago! Never stop a-rockin’, dudes and dudettes!”

Voice Of Ruin Parts With Guitar Player

After releasing the “Consumed” EP (still streaming here), Voice Of Ruin has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band’s guitar player:

“After a bit more than 6 years (since the beginning of the band), our dear guitarist Nils has decided to stop the adventure. When he announced that he’d taken this decision it first came as shock to us, especially to Olivier and I, as we’ve been playing together for more than 10 years. Nils would like to explore other kinds of music and go back to playing bass as he once did.

“We respect his decision as band members and above all as FRIENDS! We wish him all the best with his musical ventures, and be assured that we will stay in contact and maintain this friendship that we’ve nurtured for so many years! Be sure to catch us for our last show with him:

08.05.2015 – Festival de Chair et d’Acier, Mâcon (FR)
23.05.2015 – Usine a Gaz, Nyon (CH)
10.06.2015 – Chat Noir, Genève (CH)

“But the good news is that we’ve already found a great guy as his replacement: his name is Nicolas and we’ve known him for many years. Nicolas is an excellent musician and has already a lot of experience in the music scene. He has played with bands like Requiem For Sirens, The Fetch, Sybreed (as a fill-in for a 2010 European tour) and he manages a music agency called Black Bear Agency. Our first show with him will take place on the 27th of Junes 2015 at the Usine of Geneva as support of Dagoba and Benighted. It’s going to be massive!”

The Green River Burial Parting Ways With Vocalist Mert

Germany’s The Green River Burial just issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band’s vocalist:

“It has become a little quiet around us for some time now and there is a reason for it. Sadly, we have to announce that TGRB and Mert will go separate ways as musicians.

“We still remain close friends and do not at all part for personal reasons. Rather we have just come to realize that, over the course of many years as a band, our musical focus and preferences have simply moved apart. A statement by Mert concerning this matter will be posted right here in a few days to fill you in on the details.

“So, what does the future hold for this band? First of all, we will not cancel any of the upcoming shows. Mert will continue to be our singer until we are able to present you the new person behind the mic. Secondly: Yes, we do search for a new singer and no, we don’t have one yet. If you think you are the one for the job, hit us up with a message to this page. Include the following information and we’ll get back to you if we are interested:

1. Age
2. Location
3. Recordings or (even better) videos of you singing
4. Any band and touring history

“Thank you all for your support and understanding. We’re determined to continue our path and release our new material as soon as possible, but this was a decision that had to be made for the sake of us four, the band and our friendship.”
