I think people are going to be surprised at his brutality!” The first album to feature Gee Anzalone (drums), the Italian drummer has laid down an impressive performance to provide the perfect backbone to the DragonForce sound, which of course still boasts the band’s trademark insanely-fast solos, courtesy of guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman. Recording the bulk of the album at Fascination Street Studios, Sweden, with producer Jens Bogren, the band also laid down tracks while touring their Killer Elite “best of”-album, utilizing Lamerluser Studios, (London, UK), Dark Lane Studios (Witney, UK), as well as the band’s own Evil1 Studios in Charleville-Mezieres, France and Shredforce One Studios (CA, USA).

Reissue Of First Two Albums On The Way From Caligula’s Horse

Caligula’s Horse, one of Australia’s most exciting and innovative progressive bands, is set to return to Europe in June 2017 for a string of live dates including support slots with Opeth, Anathema & Pain of Salvation, UK headline shows and festival appearances at Midsummer Prog Festival (Valkenburg, Netherlands) and the Be Prog! My Friend Festival (Barcelona, Spain). To coincide with that, InsideOutMusic will reissue the band’s first two albums “Moments From Ephemeral City” and “The Tide, the Thief & River’s End” on June 16th in both CD and digital download formats.

“Moments From Ephemeral City” was released in 2011, and is the band’s debut album. Originally intended as a solo album by Sam Vallen, it quickly became the start of the story for Caligula’s Horse once vocalist Jim Grey became involved. Recorded entirely by the duo, it presents a vision that is colourful, eclectic and vivid.

“The Tide, the Thief & River’s End” followed in 2013, and was a concept album that explored themes of oppression, exodus, and the inexorable survival of the human spirit. The album saw them perform with the likes of Protest The Hero, Mastodon & Opeth, as well as garnering the attention of current label InsideOutMusic.

Vocalist Jim Grey comments: “We’re thrilled that our first two albums will be far easier to get a hold of around the world now through Inside Out Music. ‘Moments’ and ‘River’s End’ are an integral part of the Caligula’s Horse journey – we learned a lot creating them and though it’s been some years since their release, we’re as proud of them as ever.

“We’re looking forward to sharing fan favorites from our whole back catalogue with our friends in Europe in June!”

You can find the full list of tour dates below:

19th June – Le Rex, Toulouse, France w/ Pain of Salvation

Igorrr launches “Opus Brain” video online

– May 3rd, 2017 –

On June 16th, Igorrr – the brainchild of French musician and eclectic composer Gautier Serre – will release their new album, Savage Sinusoid, via Metal Blade Records. On this record, electronic manipulations, accordion, saxophone, sitar, harpsichord, mandolin and strings sit comfortably alongside ruthless blastbeats, chunky riffs, death grunts and soaring operatic vocals – and as chaotic as this might sometimes seem, there is no lack of heart behind everything thundering from the speakers. For a preview of Savage Sinusoid, a new video for the track “Opus Brain” (directed by Garrick J. Lauterbach // vimeo.com/letterboxcollective) can be viewed at: youtube.com/watch?v=Z5Qk89_xMcs

The album’s first single, “ieuD”, and part 1 of the making of Savage Sinusoid can also be viewed at: metalblade.com/igorrr – where the record can be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–Digipak CD
–pale skin clear vinyl (limited to 500 copies)
–cream/white splatter (limited to 200 copies – EU exclusive)
–golden yellow vinyl (limited to 100 copies – Bandcamp exclusive)
–tan-marbled vinyl (limited to 200 copies – US exclusive)
*exclusive bundles with a shirt, plus digital options are also available!

Savage Sinusoid track-listing:
1. Viande
2. ieuD
3. Houmous
4. Opus Brain
5. Problème d’émotion
6. Spaghetti Forever
7. Cheval
8. Apopathodiaphulatophobie
9. Va te foutre
10. Robert
11. Au Revoir

To realize Savage Sinusoid as a completely sample-free record, Serre reunited with vocalists Laurent Lunoir and Laure Le Prunenec, along with drummer Sylvain Bouvier, and collaborated with more musicians than on any of his previous releases – one of those guests being Cattle Decapitation‘s Travis Ryan, who lends his vocals on “Cheval”, “Apopathodiaphulatophobie” and “Robert”. “Viande” also sees Teloch (Mayhem) contribute some guitar/bass work, while “Houmous” features accordionists Pierre Mussi and Adam Stacey (the latter of whom is in Secret Chiefs 3 – a project by Mr. Bungle‘s Trey Spruance). While Savage Sinusoid draws from a plethora of genres, Serre has no intention of baffling or alienating potential listeners. As he explains:“I just want to make the music I love, without asking myself if it’s gonna be too complex or too far from what people like. I want to make the music which has sense to me, with no restrictions, like a big party with metalheads, electronics nerds, classical and baroque-heads and gypsy violinists getting drunk and joining together to bring the best of every genre.”

Omen Releasing Vinyl Split With Battleroar

Omen And Battleroar are releasing a 7″ split single via Cruz Del Sur Music, with pre-orders online at this location. The label also comments:

“When it comes to epic metal, Omen and Battleroar are two names that do not need introduction. Omen (USA) was formed by guitarist Kenny Powell in 1983, and since the release of the debut album entitled ‘Battle Cry’ (on Metal Blade Records) have set the standards for the genre, while Greek Battleroar, founded in 2000, are one of the most-valued and long-lasting active bands, and released 4 albums in 17 years of activity.

“Omen’s ‘Up From The Deep’ sounds as if it was taken directly from ‘Battle Cry’ – war cries introduce the legendary OMEN sound, with Kenny Powell painting a majestic tapestry of guitar notes above which Kevin Goocher delivers a brazen complimentary vocal performance.

“Battleroar’s ‘Stronghold’ is in the same style as the fastest and heaviest songs on their last album ‘Blood Of Legends’ (released on Cruz Del Sur in 2014). It shows a massive rhythmic session, great leads, and Gerrit’s classic, epic and melodic vocals.

“The single has been mastered by Bart Gabriel, and will have its official premiere at the Keep It True Festival on April 28th, where Omen will share the stage with acts such as Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Atlantean Kodex, and others. The release will be available in only 500 copies on black vinyl.”

After the Keep It True festival, OMen will embark on an European tour with the following confirmed dates:

Soilwork Announces Bastian Thusgaard As Full-Time Member

Soilwork is pleased to officially announce the inclusion of permanent drummer, 25-year-old Bastian Thusgaard. Thusgaard has been blazing the kit for the band for the past 10 months, but will make his official debut as a permanent member of the band at upcoming summer festival performances. See below for a full listing of dates.

Bastian Thusgaard originally joined the Soilwork machine as touring drummer after former full-time member Dirk Verbeuren’s departure. Thusgaard began his journey as Verbeuren’s understudy, eventually taking over touring duties for the band in the summer of 2016.

In a band statement, Soilwork says: “We are super stoked to announce Bastian Thusgaard as our permanent drummer. He’s been touring with us for quite a while and has been nothing short of amazing to work with, both on a musical level and on a personal level. Taking over after Dirk must have been pretty hard, but he has proven, time and time again, through our tours through North America, South America and Europe, that he is the perfect man for the job.

“Bastian is only 25 years old and already possesses such great groove and fantastic technique. We can’t wait to see, how his ability will take us to the next level while we write our next album. It will be a beast, there’s no doubt about it. We have so much left to say musically and Bastian will be the perfect drummer, to help the band evolve on our constant musical journey. Give Bastian a warm welcome everyone!”

Bastian Thusgaard adds: “First and foremost, I would like to thank Björn, Sven, David, Sylvain, Markus and everyone else involved in the Soilwork team for their very warm welcome. I want to thank Dirk for his guidance, support and ability to inspire young drummers like myself, to put in the hours needed in order to make it to this level. He is the reason that I’ve had my life’s best musical experiences during these past ten months. To the fans that I’ve already met around the world and all the wonderful people surrounding me, thank you for your great support and positive feedback. It has truly been overwhelming.

“I am truly honoured to be given the opportunity to continuously work with SOILWORK, a band that I grew up listening to and one of the key elements of my musical education. I am 100% committed to Soilwork and am looking forward to create music with my childhood heroes and to see what the future will bring. See you all on the road.”
