Allegaeon Reveals New Album “Apoptosis” Details

On April 19th, Allegaeon will release their new album, “Apoptosis,” via Metal Blade Records. A near-perfect symbiosis of technical, progressive, and melodic death metal, Apoptosis is a record that is as crushingly heavy as it is inventive, lithe and intelligent, and marks a significant leap forward in the band’s songwriting. To watch the video for the first single, “Stellar Tidal Disruption,” check it out below or head to the Metal Blade website where you can also pre-order the album.

The album will be available in the following formats:
–jewelcase-CD
–opaque grey vinyl (US retail exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
–black / white A/B side vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 250 copies)
–oxblood / milky clear A/B side vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 250 copies)
–clear w/ black smoke vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–silver w/ oxblood splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–transparent purple w/ white and black splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)

Tracked at Flatline Audio in Denver with long-serving producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage), Apoptosis is Allegaeon’s fifth full-length, and the first to feature bassist Brandon Michael. “Musically, Brandon brings a huge new dimension,” vocalist Riley McShane enthuses. “He has this wide breadth of music knowledge and stylistic proficiency that he draws from with excellent taste, and this makes a lot of the songs on ‘Apoptosis’ come to life.” The record also features a guest appearance by classical guitarist Christina Sandsengen, who duets with guitarist Greg Burgess on “Colors of the Currents”.

“On this record, I was more open to new ideas that we might not have used in past,” states guitarist Michael Stancel. “Rather than deleting something because ‘it’s not Allegaeon-y enough’, I would take a step back and see if that idea fit the song and decide if it was worth keeping. With that mentality came some of my favorite songs, because I was less worried about if it fit into our old sound.”

This statement is borne out across the whole album, which while very much embodying the core Allegaeon sound that has drawn fans in over the course of their impressive career, it pushes into new territory, and does so with unerring confidence. “Thematically, this record is all about contrast, and the music reflects that perfectly,” says McShane. “The vocals are heavier than ever, but there are also more clean sections. The drums are faster than ever but also more dynamic, and the guitar playing is lower and slower than on most previous albums, but also provides long, melodic and beautiful sections throughout.”

Apoptosis track-listing
1. Parthenogenesis
2. Interphase // Meiosis
3. Extremophiles (B)
4. The Secular Age
5. Exothermic Chemical Combustion
6. Extremophiles (A)
7. Metaphobia

Allegaeon launches cover of Rush’s “Animate” on all digital music services

– January 5th, 2018 –

During the recording sessions for Proponent for Sentience, Denver, CO’s Allegaeon recorded two Rush covers. Fans have already heard “Subdivisions”, which was included on the album and has since become the band’s most streamed track on Spotify. Today, in celebration of January 6, 2018, the date version of the band’s song 1.618, Allegaeon is releasing their cover of “Animate” worldwide on all digital music services. Listen to the song and stream/download from your preferred provider here: smarturl.it/allegaeon-animate

Guitarist Greg Burgess elaborates: “When we settled on Rush to cover during the ‘Proponent‘ sessions, I simply couldn’t pick which song to do. ‘Subdivisions’ or ‘Animate.’ Both were favorites for me personally, and both were sort of ‘under the radar’ eg. not ‘Tom Sawyer’ or ‘Spirit of the Radio.’ Where the original idea was to do a cover for a Japanese bonus track, we figured if we did both we could cover a special song for both the Japan AND Europe pressing. Then the powers that be decided to just include ‘Subdivisions’ on the album, and keep ‘Animate’ in reserve for something. Jan 6th, 2018 is the only occurrence of the golden ratio in date form that will occur during our life time. So 1.6.18 seemed like the perfect date to release it in Allegaeon fashion.”

Proponent for Sentience was released in September of 2016. The album was produced by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation) and is a complex, intelligent, and absorbing concept record that can rightfully sit alongside the true greats of the medium. Allegaeon will begin recording their fifth full-length album with Otero at Flatline Audio in March.

New EP “Thronosis” Detailed By Excommunion

As the world crumbles beneath our feet, a slumbering beast awakens to feast on the weak. That beast is Excommunion. The band will break a years-long silence with the upcoming release of “Thronosis” via Dark Descent Records on May 12th.

Fifteen years after the sonic blitzkrieg that was the debut album “Superion,” Colorado born Excommunion triumphantly returns with the new EP “Thronosis.” Christbutcher and Kyle Spanswick once again form the backbone for this relentless return.

The band comments: “In death we are born again, to rise once more with new form, beneath the Shadow of the Logos. Old doctrines are cast into the abyss and old flesh flensed and given to the flames of pyres. Let only the old name remain as our epithet. Let all else burn and fall from this new and glorious form within the paradoxical light of a greater heresy. In death, Excommunion arises once more…”

The release was recorded, mixed and mastered at Flatline Audio by Dave Otero and Excommunion. The cover art (shown below) was created by Lauri Laaksonen (Desolate Shrine).

The track listing is as follows:

1. Twilight of Eschaton
2. Nemesis
3. World Crucifier
4. Blessed is the Epoch of Darkness and Strife

In The Company Of Serpents Posts Advance “Ain-Soph Aur” Album Stream

This Friday, Denver doom duo In The Company Of Serpents will officially unveil stunning new studio offering, “Ain-Soph Aur.” In advance of its release, the record has come online for an early stream – listen in below.

The six-track “Ain-Soph Aur” takes its name from the three veils of negative existence which precede the manifestation of the material universe in the philosophy of Hermetic Qabalah, a Western esoteric tradition involving mysticism and the occult. The phrase translates to “Limitless Light,” and is emblematic of the Qabalistic concepts which are central to the record.

The album was captured at Flatline Audio in Denver by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Khemmis, Cephalic Carnage) and will see independent release on March 10th, 2017 on digital and vinyl formats.

Wayfarer Announces “Old Souls” Album Release

Denver, CO’s atmospheric blackened metal band Wayfarer will release sophomore album ”Old Souls” on June 17 via Prosthetic Records. The album’s cover artwork, which can be seen below, was created by Colorado artist and knifesmith Adam Gersh.

Recorded at Flatline Audio with Shane Howard (Martriden, Khemmis) while being mixed and mastered by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cobalt), “Old Souls” features seven tracks clocking in at almost 50 minutes long.

Asked how “Old Souls” differs from debut “Children Of An Iron Age,” guitarist and vocalist Shane McCarthy commented: “This record is a darker and much more focused effort from us. Writing the album was a very cohesive and involved process as a whole band this time around. It has moved further and further away from any particular genre trappings and stepped closer into what we feel our sound is; which is always shifting, always evolving. Life is too short to write music that already exists. We can’t wait to get this out there.”

Wayfarer Posts Secret Mountain Show Footage

Colorado atmospheric metallists Wayfarer – whose 2014 Prosthetic debut “Children of the Iron Age” was described by Decibel as a “gorgeous, lush ode to epic heaviness” – just released live video of that album’s title track.

The clip was filmed during a recent appearance at Fire On The Mountain, a secret, exclusive event that takes place annually in an undisclosed location atop the Grand Teton Mountains in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Wayfarer will soon return to Flatline Audio Studios (Cattle Decapitation, Cobalt) in Westminister, Colorado to record a new album with Dave Otero. The new release is expected to be released in the summer via Prosthetic Records.
