Cannibal Corpse reveals details for new album, ‘Red Before Black’

For a first preview of Red Before Black, the band has launched a video for the single, “Code of the Slashers”. Directed by Zev Deans (panoramaprogramming.com – who created videos for Behemoth‘s “Messe Noire”, Ghost‘s “Square Hammer”, Portal‘s “Curtain”), “Code of the Slashers” can be viewed at: metalblade.com/cannibalcorpse – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

Zev Deans comments: “After crawling through abandoned buildings, crashing our van into a tree in the middle of a scene, witnessing a real stabbing and drenching ourselves in fake blood in a derelict park at 5am, we can safely say this was a proper introduction to the slasher genre for Panorama Programming. We brought a slab of fresh meat back from a rotting metropolis, and we’re serving it to you raw. Come and get it.”

Many words come to mind when you hear the name Cannibal Corpse, but one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it very clear who sets the standard when it comes to always compelling music that is equally brutal and complex. Moreover, the band have pushed themselves again, ensuring that it stands out from their catalog. “Throughout our career we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. ‘Red Before Black‘ continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the most raw sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest and catchiest record.”

Rather than meticulously plan things out or stick rigidly to any kind of template, when it comes to writing, The Black Dahlia Murder prefer to let things happen organically. In the hands of guitarist Brian Eschbach – who co-founded the band with front-man Trevor Strnad in 2001 – and new recruit Brandon Ellis (Arsis, ex-Cannabis Corpse), Nightbringers is rich with dynamic riffs that are at once fresh and classic The Black Dahlia Murder, resulting in a collection that shifts through many moods and effortlessly incorporates various elements of extreme metal. While Strnad explores a variety of themes and ideas with his lyrics, they are united by the album’s title, which embraces a tenet that has been central to The Black Dahlia Murder‘s output since the very beginning. “Death metal and nighttime are synonymous to me,” Strnad explains. “We are the rulers of the darkened hours that the Christian good fears. A lot of archaic ideas that are still upheld – such as marriage and monogamy – came from Christianity, whether people want to acknowledge it or not, and to me, death metal has always been bucking that. It’s ‘being-the-villain music’, because we’re the enemy of Christianity, the enemy of all that is good and traditional. Death metal is for free thinkers, it’s for showing people the path to inner strength and operating on your own will, instead of being told what to do and living in fear, and songs like the title track and ‘Kings Of The Nightworld’ are about leading a legion of awakened minds into battle.”

RAM comments about Rod: “We are very proud to release our fifth studio album entitled ‘Rod‘. On this album for the first time ever we wrote a conceptual story over 6 songs, something that we always wanted to do but never got right. This album contains probably our most epic moments to date but it is still definitely Heavy Metal Tyranny!”

Regarding the first single, “Gulag”, RAM adds: “‘Gulag’ has a definite old-school European Heavy Metal vibe to it. The song shines a light on the hypocrisy of collectivism, and takes a stand for the one who lives and thinks for one self, not for ideology or dogmas of the masses. As one can see in the lyric video for the song most members of RAM were raised during the golden age of home computers!”

Rod track-listing

Ensiferum launches “making of” documentary video for new album, ‘Two Paths’

– September 14th, 2017 –

Tomorrow (September 15th), Ensiferum will release their seventh full-length, Two Paths, worldwide via Metal Blade Records. Produced by Anssi Kippo, the master was recorded on tape, for a true analog experience. In anticipation of this release, the band has now launched a “making of” documentary video for the album, which can be viewed at: youtube.com/watch?v=iaUE85WKTPw. You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with Two Paths they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is simultaneously the Finnish quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. Additionally, the album literally takes the concept of Two Paths to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks “Don’t You Say” and “God Is Dead”. “Even though Ensiferum has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,” explains bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka. With Mikko P. Mustonen again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both Two Paths and its predecessor, One Man Army. “It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.”

Two Paths track-listing
1. Ajattomasta Unesta
2. For Those About to Fight for Metal
3. Way of the Warrior
4. Two Paths

Eyes Of The Sun signs worldwide deal with Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records

– September 12th, 2017 –

Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of Brooklyn’s doom metal trio Eyes Of The Sun! After releasing their self-titled EP in 2010, and debut full-length Chapter I in 2013, the band is now poised to release their sophomore effort in 2018 via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records.

Eyes Of The Sun comments: “This is the absolute highlight of our journey and we look forward to the days ahead. We are extremely proud to be part of the Blacklight Media/Metal Blade family and its history. This is a testament to the support of our friends, family and fans that have been with of us throughout the years.”

Chris Santos (Blacklight Media) adds: “The beauty of Blacklight Media, for me, is that I get to work with bands from so many different genres of metal, and am so psyched to be building such a diverse and uniquely different roster of amazing metal bands. On that note, I’m super stoked to be working with my friends Eyes Of the Sun from right here in Brooklyn, who are a crushingly heavy, wall-shaking earthquake of heavy doom with a live sound that has to be heard to be believed.”

Eyes Of The Sun was conceived in early 2007 by bassist/vocalist Jeff Blanchard. Long-time friend Miguel De Jesus Jr. joined the ranks with Jeff a few months later on guitar. Within a few years, and after a couple of past members on second guitar and drums, Chris O’Neil joined as the permanent drummer. As a trio, they performed countless shows over the past 10 years, delivering their unique brand of doom metal – which leaves listeners with a range of emotions, that the band themselves then experience and extract from. The band explains: “It is known throughout the laws of science and nature that the sun creates and sustains life…Now it stands witness to the atrocities, depletion and vile consumption manifested by mankind, which it originally sustained life for. In our way, we portray what is seen through the Eyes Of The Sun.”

Stay tuned for more news about Eyes Of The Sun coming soon!

Cripper premieres video for new single, “Mother”

– September 11th, 2017 –

This Friday (September 15th), Germany’s Cripper will release their new album, Follow Me: Kill!, worldwide via Metal Blade Records! The band has now launched the 3rd and final single taken from that album: “Mother”! “Mother” is being premiered as a full production video, so make sure to check it out at: youtube.com/watch?v=N1Us0UMmPhw

Cripper comments: “Choosing the 3rd single from ‘Follow Me: Kill!‘ was very easy for us. ‘Mother’ marks one of the album’s backbones but can also stand on its own. The song speaks its own distinct, gloomy and heavy language, which we transported into the video. The result is a dark and very personal piece that visually translates ‘Mother’. Within the context of the previous singles, ‘Pressure’ and ‘Into The Fire’, this one gives you a hint at the full spectrum of ‘Follow Me; Kill!‘.”

For another preview of Follow Me: Kill!, the previous single “Pressure” can be heard at: metalblade.com/cripper – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–Digipak CD (EU exclusive)
–CD
–180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
–yellow orange vinyl (limited to 200 copies)
–cool grey marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)
* exclusive bundles with a shirt, plus digital options are also available!

Follow Me: Kill! is Cripper‘s fifth album, and it adds fresh, exciting elements into their music. Still, the band never forgets where they come from and stay true to themselves within the frames of musical progression. The result is an effort that maintains the heaviness and groove the band is known for, while also containing atmospheric parts, capably realized and granting diversity.
