Behemoth Posts New Video “Bartzabel” Online

Before unleashing their eagerly awaited new album, “I Loved You At Your Darkest” this Friday, Behemoth have released the brand new single “Bartzabel.”

Mastermind Nergal comments: “‘Bartzabel’ is a song that came in the midst of a Behemoth rehearsal… We had no structure, no vision – but piece by piece, it came to be, and we were extremely excited by the result. To us, it’s the eye of the ‘ILYAYD’ storm: sonically calmer and slower than anything else on the record, but definitely one of the darkest!

“Lyrically, we (myself and Krzysztof Azarewicz) were inspired by Aleister Crowley’s conjuration of the Spirit of Mars – which the video, by our trusted friends in Grupa 13, depicts beautifully…I may even go as far to say that it’s my favourite BEHEMOTH video of all time! I hope you all enjoy it, and we look forward to ‘ILYAYD”s launch this Friday!”

Fleshgod Apocalypse Enters The Studio To Record New Album

Italian symphonic death metallers Fleshgod Apocalypse are currently in the studio recording the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2016 release, “King.” Frontman and drummer Francesco Paoli recently checked in to offer the following update:

“It’s official, we’re finally back in the studio and it feels absolutely great! This past year marked a new era for the band, so we felt the need to look back at our death metal roots and, at the same time, to push ourselves beyond our limits, reaching a wider level of variety and influences within the songs. We wanted this album to be fierce but also organic and unpredictable, as if it had a life on its own. That’s why we decided to involve several guest musicians, a full classical string section and even a choir!

“We’re also incredibly excited to work with legendary producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Destruction, Aborted, Epica) for the first time. He’s the man behind so many amazing metal records and definitely one of our favourite producers at the moment. On my side, being back as the frontman also means this is my last chance to record drums on a Fleshgod Apocalypse record and this awareness actually inspired me so much while writing the parts. I really think this album will be a true landmark for me, as a drummer.”

The as of yet untitled record is tentatively scheduled for a spring 2019 release.

Soulfly Posts New Album, “Ritual” Trailer Online

Metal icons Soulfly are set to release their devastating new album Ritual on October 19th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Today, the band has released the first of several album trailers. Watch guitarist/vocalist Max Cavalera discuss the exceptional album artwork for Ritual, below.

Comments Max Cavalera: “I am really stoked to be working again with two of my favourite artists, Eliran Kantor and Marcelo Vasco! The Ritual artwork is very mystic and captures the vibe of the album perfectly. For this one, we really tried to retain the groove of early Soulfly as well as my love for the heavy, fast stuff I’m into: like death and black metal and some hardcore. Working with Josh Wilbur for Soulfly this time around has been amazing. He’s a huge fan and added a lot to the record. I would fight for the fast songs and he would always push me to add more groove. I think in the end we created a really cool mix of songs that covers a lot of ground in my career. Let the Ritual begin!”

Metal Underground caught up with Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera this week in Bristol, England to discuss “Ritual,” which you can also view below.

Alkaloid (Obscura) Debut New Track “As Decreed By Laws Unwritten”

Alkaloid, featuring current and former members of Obscura and more, debut another track from their new album “Liquid Anatomy“. “As Decreed By Laws Unwritten” is the latest single to land from it, which arrives in stores on May 18th via Season Of Mist. You can stream the track now over at nocleansinging.com.

Explains the band’s guitarist Danny Tunker:

“This was the second song I wrote for ‘Liquid Anatomy‘. When we first started sending demos and talking about songs we felt we needed some heavier songs. We had the title track, which is a ballad, ‘Kernel Panic‘ which didn’t have a heavy section yet and another song I wrote, which was a mellotron driven prog-ballad at that point and turned into ‘In Turmoil’s Swirling Reaches‘ later.

As a result Florian wrote ‘Azagthoth‘ and I wrote ‘As Decreed By Laws Unwritten‘. Most of the song was written in one sitting in a hotel room, but after it was conceived it went through various incarnations with a full-on flamenco part and even a string section. When I completed the lyrics I chose to drop those sections in favour of the desolate atmospheric section that’s there now.

This song also marks my singing debut with Alkaloid. I’d never done any screaming or harsh vocals but since I had a clear idea of how I wanted the vocals to be I just did demoed them at home. We found out that my voice blends quite nice with Florian‘s, so for this album I’m providing backing vocals on most songs. I’m extremely happy with how this song came out. Recording the rhythm parts over Hannes‘ ultra heavy groove was one of my favourite moments in the making of this album.”
