Set to kick off USA tour with Queensryche next month

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome Fates Warning to its worldwide roster! Fates Warning began in the early 1980′s playing a traditional style of heavy metal. However, they quickly began to adopt a more technically proficient style and are considered by many to be the first true prog-metal band. While the band has subsequently moved in more melodic and ambient directions, they have remained a vibrant and well-respected cornerstone for the prog camp within the heavy metal strata.

Fates Warning‘s Ray Alder (vocals) comments: “All of us in Fates Warning are happy to announce that we are back with Metal Blade Records. Metal Blade has been there for us since the very beginning and we are proud to call them part of our family. The journey begins again and we cannot begin to say how excited we are to work together once more. A big thank you to our fans for sticking with us through all these years. We could not be here today without all of you. That is a fact. Thank you everyone. Here’s to making some new memories!”

Fates Warning released their latest album, Live Over Europe, last year to critical acclaim. The first live release featuring the current line-up [Ray Alder (vocals), Jim Matheos (guitars), Joey Vera (bass and vocals), Bobby Jarzombek (drums), Mike Abdow (guitars and vocals)], Live Over Europe contains 23 songs and was recorded at various European locations (Aschaffenburg / Germany, Belgrade / Serbia, Thessaloniki and Athens / Greece, Rome and Milan / Italy, Budapest / Hungary as well as Ljubljana / Slovenia) during their January 2018 headlining tour for Theories Of Flight (2016). Arch/Matheos re-signs with Metal Blade Records

– August 17th, 2018 –

Begins work on new album

Metal Blade Records has proudly re-signed Arch/Matheos for a worldwide deal!

Arch/Matheos began as a reunion between founding Fates Warning members John Arch (vocals) and Jim Matheos (guitar), who hadn’t collaborated since John Arch’s solo EP, A Twist Of Fate (2003) – and hadn’t fully collaborated for a whole album since Fates Warning‘s Awaken the Guardian (1986). In 2010, the duo began working on a record together and brought along three Fates Warning members to the fold. The five members would in turn release their debut album Sympathetic Resonance in 2011, under the name Arch/Matheos.

Since then, John Arch and Jim Matheos have kept busy with their other projects – but now the time has come for them to join forces once again, for a new Arch/Matheos release, due out 2019 via Metal Blade Records.

John Arch comments: “The desire and commitment from both of us is first and foremost, but the impetus to move forward with another A/M project fell in good part on how well ‘Sympathetic Resonance‘ was received, and how the fans have continued to show their support through a variety of mediums, stating they would like a follow-up effort. The timing for Jim and I seems to be right and things are coming along nicely. We look forward to sharing the results with you soon!”

Jim Matheos adds: “It’s great to be working with my old friend John Arch again. We push each other creatively in ways that brings out the best in both of us, I think. We’ve come up with what I hope is a worthy successor to ‘Sympathetic Resonance‘, and a great lineup of musicians to help us bring it to fruition.”

Already featuring special guests Thomas Lang, Bobby Jarzombek, Baard Kolstad, Mark Zonder, Matt Lynch, Steve Di Giorgio, Joey Vera, Sean Malone, Joe DiBiase, and Frank Aresti – with more to come! – this upcoming Arch/Matheos album is currently being tracked, with Jens Bogren (Fates Warning, Opeth, Devin Townsend, etc.) handling mixing duties in November. Stay tuned for more news coming soon!

Rock super group Motor Sister begins writing for new album

– August 16th, 2018 –

Announces Los Angeles show at Molly Malones on September 8th

On September 8th, rock super group Motor Sister – featuring Jim Wilson (Mother Superior), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Pearl Aday (solo), Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning), and John Tempesta (The Cult) – will appear at Molly Malones in Los Angeles for a special show. For more information, please visit: ticketweb.com

Following the event, Motor Sister will start to write material for a new album, due out 2019 via Metal Blade Records. Since the release of their debut, Ride, in 2015, the group has been more than busy with their other commitments outside of the band: Scott Ian has been touring non-stop with Anthrax; John Tempesta has been on tour with The Cult; Joey Vera has been performing Symbol Of Salvation in its entirety with Armored Saint; Pearl Aday released a solo album, Heartbreak and Canyon Revelry, and just completed a run of dates opening for Cody Jinks; Jim Wilson released his latest album with drummer Phil Jones in June.

Motor Sister was originally assembled to jam for Scott Ian’s 50th birthday party. Thanks to Scott’s wife Pearl Aday, all it took was a quick phone call, and the stage was literally set for Scott’s dream gig. “I wanted to cherry-pick a set list of my favorite Mother Superior songs and get these guys together and have the concert at my house,” Scott says of the event that eventually led to an album (Ride – comprised of Mother Superior covers) and the formation of Motor Sister. For their sophomore release, Motor Sister will be writing all new, original songs.

“The simple goal for the second Motor Sister album is to make the most kick ass, high energy rock & roll record ever,” Jim Wilson comments.

To preview and purchase Ride, please visit: metalblade.com/motorsister. Stay tuned for more news coming soon!

New EP “Symbiosis” To Be Released By Curse The Fall

Oklahoma City’s Curse The Fall will release the new EP “Symbiosis” on November 21st, through Final Legion Records. “Symbiosis” blends power, emotion, melody and skill into one stunning sonic structure. Check out the new song “Race” in the player at the bottom.

Curse The Fall formed in 2013, a gathering together of musicians who had cut their teeth in numerous local bands and shared the drive and ambition to take things to the next level; the desire to create music that would speak to metal fans around the globe with its passion and honesty. The debut album “Aphelion” was released on Final Legion Records in the summer of 2016 and the word began to spread. “Aphelion” merely hinted at what the band could achieve.

Now the hard work in the rehearsal room and on the stage has borne fruit; with the release of “Symbiosis” the world can really hear all that Curse The Fall has to offer. Mixed and mastered by Eric Greedy, who has previously worked with everyone from Fates Warning, Kingdom Come and Smashing Pumpkins to Body Count, Fu Manchu and Vince Neil, “Symbiosis” is the real deal in every respect.

The track listing for the EP is:

1. Symbiosis
2. Race
3. Seasons
4. Over Time
5. Dirt Road
6. Symbiont

‘For the Sake of Heaviness: The History of Metal Blade Records’: PledgeMusic bundles now available!

– August 31st, 2017 –

Earlier this week, Metal Blade Records and BMG released For the Sake of Heaviness: The History of Metal Blade Records – written by label founder and CEO Brian Slagel with Mark Eglinton, and featuring a foreword by Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich. Celebrating the storied label’s 35th anniversary, For the Sake of Heaviness is an inside look at how Slagel built Metal Blade from a one-man operation in his mom’s non-air-conditioned garage to the preeminent international home of heavy music that it is today.

Now, fans of For the Sake of Heaviness can purchase exclusive bundles and Metal Blade memorabilia through PledgeMusic: pledgemusic.com/projects/metalbladebook

See below for the For the Sake of Heaviness cassette track-listing (one of the many collectibles that you can purchase now through PledgeMusic!):
SIDE A
1. Fates Warning “Guardian”
2. Lizzy Borden “Lord of the Flies”
3. Omen “Holy Martyr”
4. Cirith Ungol “Black Machine”
5. GWAR “Gor-Gor”

For the Sake of Heaviness pulls back the curtain to reveal the definitive look at how Metal Blade began, what they’ve accomplished, and where they’re going. Slagel reveals the early advice he gave that helped guide Motley Crue‘s career; how he helped Metallica replace their bassist – twice; his detailed work on Thin Lizzy and Alice Cooper re-issues; his behind-the-scenes role in the careers of Slayer, GWAR, Mother Love Bone, Alice in Chains, Faith No More, Goo Goo Dolls, and Lamb of God; and his unlikely ventures with kindred metal heads – from hockey star Ken Baumgartner, to celebrity chef Chris Santos, to The Howard Stern Show‘s Richard Christy, to comedians Jim Florentine, Don Jamieson and Jim Breuer.

Witherfall Inks Deal With Century Media

U.S. epic progressive metal rising force Witherfall just signed a worldwide deal with Century Media. The label comments:

“Witherfall, who seem to have come out of nowhere in late 2016, stirred up the international scene with a unique approach of combining epic metal with dark heavy metal and complex yet catchy progressive metal to style that reminds of early Crimson Glory, the Conspiracy/The Eye era of King Diamond and the great achievements of bands like Nevermore, Fates Warning and Queensr?che.”

The band had this to say about inking the new record deal: “We are very honored to be a part of the Century Media legacy. The roster of acts they have worked with speaks volumes about the pride they take in bringing original and engaging music to Metal fans around the globe. Witherfall promises to deliver on the Century Media slogan of ‘Quality in Metal.'”

Witherfall’s debut album “Nocturnes And Requiems” was self-released by the band in the USA and will now see its European release on October 6th, 2017 as a limited CD digipak version with three stickers, a noble LP version with gatefold sleeve, inlay, poster and CD, as well as digital download/stream.
