Rather than meticulously plan things out or stick rigidly to any kind of template, when it comes to writing, The Black Dahlia Murder prefer to let things happen organically. In the hands of guitarist Brian Eschbach – who co-founded the band with front-man Trevor Strnad in 2001 – and new recruit Brandon Ellis (Arsis, ex-Cannabis Corpse), Nightbringers is rich with dynamic riffs that are at once fresh and classic The Black Dahlia Murder, resulting in a collection that shifts through many moods and effortlessly incorporates various elements of extreme metal. While Strnad explores a variety of themes and ideas with his lyrics, they are united by the album’s title, which embraces a tenet that has been central to The Black Dahlia Murder‘s output since the very beginning. “Death metal and nighttime are synonymous to me,” Strnad explains. “We are the rulers of the darkened hours that the Christian good fears. A lot of archaic ideas that are still upheld – such as marriage and monogamy – came from Christianity, whether people want to acknowledge it or not, and to me, death metal has always been bucking that. It’s ‘being-the-villain music’, because we’re the enemy of Christianity, the enemy of all that is good and traditional. Death metal is for free thinkers, it’s for showing people the path to inner strength and operating on your own will, instead of being told what to do and living in fear, and songs like the title track and ‘Kings Of The Nightworld’ are about leading a legion of awakened minds into battle.”

“Welcome To Wacken” Behind The Scenes Clip Posted Online

BangerTV has posted a second behind-the-scenes look at the forthcoming virtual reality movie “Welcome To Wacken,” the first fully 360° virtual reality music festival documentary, produced by Canada’s Banger Films (“Metal Evolution,” “Iron Maiden: Flight 666”) and Secret Location.

In this exclusive clip, cameras follow the crew as they prepare to capture fans from around the world storming Wacken’s hallowed gates for the opening of the main stages. Later, the brave and diligent crew race against a rainstorm to wrangle a group of fans into a 360° circle headbang.

On the third day of shooting in the muddy fields of Northern Germany, Creative Director Marty Flanagan acknowledges: “It’s been incredible getting to know what metal really means to people and what drives them to travel half-way around the world to be at Wacken.”

“Welcome To Wacken” will be screened at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. Fans will have the opportunity to watch it free as part of Fantasia’s VR 360 Experience, from July 19th through July 23rd.

Varmia Releasing “Z Mar Twych” On Cassette

On May 19th, Folkvangr Records will release the cassette version of “Z Mar Twych” by Polish black metal band Varmia. The cassette is limited to 100 copies on translucent red cassette with white ink and hand-numbered, double sided 7-panel sleeve in a crystal clear case.

You can pre-order the cassette over here and the band commented about the release: “We are very enthusiastic about the cassette release of our debut ‘Z Mar Twych.’ The sound of that piece from the very beginning was about the dirt and organic tones. I planned to make it as old school as was possible at the time. Our cups go high to Mark as he is the one that put it all together and delivered this exclusive form of our dear first piece. Slava!”
