The Raven Age Posts New Song “The Day The World Stood Still” Online

This March, UK heavy rockers The Raven Age will release their highly anticipated second album Conspiracy through Corvid Records. Ahead of the release, the band have shared the fourth installment from the record ‘The Day The World Stood Still’.

A melodic metal monster that is as brilliantly catchy as it is artfully heavy, it’s equipped with epic guitar solos and powerful vocal lines that have the ferocity and theatrics of the likes of metal heavyweights Avenged Sevenfold. It follows the tracks ‘Surrogate’, ‘Betrayal of the Mind’ and the previous single ‘Fleur De Lis’, which has now reached over 1million streams on Spotify.

Named after a collective of ravens, Conspiracy is a cryptic soundtrack to the immersive fantasy world that the combined minds of bandmates Matt James (vocals), George Harris (guitar), Tony Maue (guitar), Matt Cox (bass) and Jai Patel (drums) have created. A world that delves into history’s myths and legends, with the stories re-told through their music and imagery. Clues left within their artwork and lyrics connect everything together to be part of a bigger story, pointing to what may later come to pass for The Raven Age.

Conspiracy is an inventive, mature and thrilling body of work that’s full of twists and tangents that carry the excitement from start to finish.

Having already built a solid live presence after touring the globe with the likes of Tremonti, Killswitch Engage, Shinedown, Mastodon to name a few and appearing at a number of festivals including Waken Open Air, Bloodstock and Download, they will be supporting this release with their biggest headline run to date across the UK and Europe throughout March and April with support from Defences.

They will then continue the year as support to Iron Maiden on their North and South American leg of the ‘Legacy Of The Beast’ tour from July to October.

Scherer/Batten Announces Debut Album “BattleZone”

Scherer/Batten today announces the release of debut album “BattleZone,” due out on September 22nd via MelodicRock Records. The duo is comprised of vocalist Marc Scherer — the lead singer of Peterik/Scherer and Lovecraft — and lead guitarist Jennifer Batten – who has toured worldwide with both Jeff Beck and Michael Jackson.

The album features material exclusively from the songbook of writer/producer Jim Peterik (Ides of March, formerly of Survivor, Pride Of Lions). Featuring eight rare musical gems from Jim’s songwriting vault, the album also includes three brand new tracks, written specifically for this project.

Rounding out Marc Scherer’s lead vocals and Jennifer Batten’s lead guitars on the record are guitarists Mike Aquino, Dave Carl ,and Jim Peterik. Christian Cullen, Chris Neville and Barb Unger play the keyboards, while Bill Syniar and Klem Hayes play bass (both former members of Survivor). The drums and percussion are provided by Dave Kelly (30 Odd Foot of Grunts) and Ed Breckenfeld (The Insiders, Pride Of Lions, Jim Peterik’s World Stage). Two time Grammy nominated Mindi Abair lends her saxophone and Bill Champlin (Chicago, Sons of Champlin, The Rhythm Dukes), Bryan Cole, Brian Hemstock and Danette Pahl all contribute backing vocals.

Jim Peterik exclaims, “As a long time enthusiast of Marc Scherer’s vocal chops and the expertise of rock guitar goddess Jennifer Batten, you can imagine how excited I am at the release of Scherer/ Batten’s BattleZone. As a song writer and producer, it was a dream come true mining some lost gems from my many years in rock, producing them to a new lustre and even writing three brand new cuts with Marc and Jennifer. You can hear our excitement in every song.”

Jennifer Batten cheers, “it was such a pleasure to jump into such a high level inspiring project! Marc’s vocals are out of this world, the grooves are kickin’, and working with Jim Peterik is so joyous and creative. I can’t wait to take this to the stage!”

Night Viper Streaming New Song “The Hammer”

The heavy metal warlords from Night Viper today premiere new track “The Hammer” online. The track hails from the band’s self-titled debut album, set for international release on December 4, 2015 via Svart Records.

Plans are already underway for European tours and festival appearances throughout 2016, but in the meantime, hear the sound of “The Hammer” below.

“We love it,” says guitarist Tom Sutton of the album. “We recorded all the basic tracks live together, and I think you can really hear the excitement in the room. It’s very organic-sounding, and will remind people of the heavy metal classics they love, while still being very current and very unique. It’s not a tribute to any era in any way. There’s elements of ‘Kill ’em All’ era Metallica, Judas Priest, Entombed, and the more metal side of Motörhead, along with some Pentagram or Coven-type spookiness.

“This is just a pure and honest representation of how we sound. Each song really has its own personality, and the melodies are super-catchy. The differences in style and influences between the two guitarists, Emil and I, give the album a lot of texture, I think. If there’s a solo that sounds like cat with its tail on fire, that’s me, and if there’s something with a beautiful twirling melody to it, that’s probably Emil. Ruben sounds totally thumping on bass, and Jonna plays with a swing that isn’t heard in metal much these days. And for those who haven’t heard Sofie Lee sing yet, you really are in for a treat. We can’t wait for people to hear it. There will be bangovers!”

1. Night Viper
2. The Hammer
3. Curse of a Thousand Deaths
4. Run For Cover
5. Warrior Woman
6. Faces in the Mirror
7. Never Be Enslaved
8. Dagger In Hand
9. The Wolverine

Vamps Releasing New Album “Bloodsuckers”

Vamps – the Japanese rock band formed by and featuring Hyde (L’Arc~en~Ciel) and K.A.Z (Oblivion Dust) – will release a new studio album titled “Bloodsuckers” through Spinefarm Records on March 24. Pre-orders are available at this location.

This 13 track release-produced by Vvamps and Josh Wilbur (whose previous credits include Gojira and Lamb of God) and housed in the artwork of mysterious Japanese artist Rockin’ Jelly Bean-is the follow-up to “Sex Blood Rock N’ Roll,” released in 2013.

Songs on Bloodsuckers include “World’s End,” a U.K. single in 2014 and used in the Sony campaign for the Xperia UK mobile, “Get Away,” “Replay,” “The Jolly Roger,” and “Vampire’s Love,” which is not just a top 3 single in Japan but also the song selected to launch Hollywood blockbuster, “Dracula Untold,” in that market.

In addition, “Replay” was the theme song of Dark Labyrinth, one in a series of smartphone apps from Dark Summoner.

Says Hyde, who launched Vamps with K.A.Z in 2008, “Bloodsuckers is a record that we spent almost one year putting together. For me, this is the best work we’ve done so far, and we would love to tour around the world with these songs. Our aim was to build on the excitement of our headline show at Koko in London last year, and of course our appearance at the Download Festival in the UK.”

The album’s track listing is:

1. Reincarnation
2. Zero
3. Lips
4. World’s End
5. Evil
6. Ghost
7. Vampire’s Love
8. Damned

Barren Earth Signs With Century Media, Finishes New Album

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of Barren Earth.

Combining elements of modern and traditional death metal with 70’s prog rock and folk, Barren Earth – now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará – managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums.

Debut “Curse Of The Red River” (2010 – reviewed here) and its follow-up “The Devil’s Resolve” (2012 – reviewed here) have already solidified the band as one of the most promising upcoming acts of the genre.

The band comments: “It’s the middle of a long, dark and cold winter here in Finland, however there’s no limit to our excitement as the future looks really bright today! We have a new set of music about to be released, having worked our asses off to create not just another album but a piece of real substance and weight in a world of cheap thrills and quickly forgotten gimmicks. We really poured our hearts and souls on this one and it’s by far our best work yet.

“For this most important release in our career, it was obvious we should only be partnering with the best possible label – nothing less than the mighty Century Media. We truly feel we could not be in better hands. This is where we want to be, the stars are aligned and all the ducks are in a row – 2015 is going to be the biggest year ever for Barren Earth!”

Jens Prüter, Head Of A&R Century Media Europe comments: “I still remember hearing the early Barren Earth demos six years ago in November 2008. We all liked it but one reason or another we were not then able to sign them. Fail. These fine gentlemen from Finland have now created and developed into a serious force in progressive death/doom metal. The band had progressed into one of the most interesting bands of the genre – mainly because they go beyond the boundaries of any genre and create a dark world of their own. It takes a while to fully get into their sound universe, but that’s what I like even more in our short-lived time. I’m sure the new album will be a timeless classic and I want to thank Barren Earth for knocking at our door again.”

Barren Earth recently finished the recordings for a third studio album, which is scheduled to be released in early 2015. Details on that will be released shortly.
