Swedish death metallers Evocation have announced Janne Jaloma as their new drummer. Guitarist Marko Palmen comments: “We are very proud to welcome Janne Jaloma as the new drummer of Evocation. Janne has previously made himself a name in the Gothenburg & UK scenes as a dedicated and hardworking drummer for bands such as Despite, Bloodshot Dawn & Deals Death. His technical skills as well as his groove are pure magic, and the way he plays makes him a perfect fit for Evocation. Janne will make his live debut with Evocation on the release ritual scheduled for the 8th of April in Boras.”

Fans can watch Janne Jaloma’s drum play-through for “Imperium Fall” from Evocation‘s latest album, The Shadow Archetype, at: youtube.com/watch?v=NHaQd808SqY

Featuring a cover and layout by Xaay (Behemoth, Nile, etc.), The Shadow Archetype was recorded at three different studios. Backing vocals, mixing and mastering were done at Dugout Productions. Daniel Bergstrand handled the recording of backing vocals and mixing. George Nerantzis handled the mastering. Drums were recorded at Crehate Studios together with studio engineer Oscar Nilsson. The Shadow Archetype also features veteran drummer Per Moller Jensen (ex-The Haunted, ex-Invocator) on session drums. Per sets a new death metal standard on the new Evocation album with his complex, yet groovy drumming, which we know well from his time in The Haunted. Guitars, bass, and lead vocals were recorded by the band in their own studio, Acacia Avenue Recordings. “We started recording the drums in late June 2015 and did the last recordings with vocals in June 2016. So, we spent roughly a year in the studio with ‘The Shadow Archetype‘,” explains Palmen. “In my opinion, the production is our strongest so far. It has all the elements I want in a production; raw brutality with a distinctive punch!”

Evocation launches video for “Condemned to the Grave”

– March 1st, 2017 –

Next week (March 10th), Evocation will celebrate their return to death metal with the stunning new full-length, The Shadow Archetype! While honoring their Swedish death metal roots, The Shadow Archetype also adds thrash metal elements to their addictive, heavy sound. For a preview of the album, a new video for the track “Condemned To The Grave” can be viewed at: youtube.com/watch?v=IFJQV_5Pybw

Evocation‘s Marko Palmen (guitar) comments: “The video for ‘Condemned To The Grave’ was shot with Greenworks Television on the 4th of February at a deserted house in the small village of Golingstorp, Sweden. The deserted house was actually something that we found through a friend who specialized in photographing deserted buildings. According to villagers the house has been deserted for at least 30 years. It’s a beautiful house and the ageing has perhaps added even more character to the house. The day of the video shoot was freezing… But it added a special eerie feeling since there is a small layer of snow in the landscape, and on many of the shots with the actors you can see their breaths in the air. The end result became quite spectacular (not for the weak hearted I might add…), and we all hope you enjoy the video for ‘Condemned To The Grave’!

Huge thanx to Greenworks Television and all involved in the making of the video for ‘Condemned To The Grave’; Rene U Valdes (Director), Johan Falklind (Camera), Ida Johansson (Actor), Anders Olsson (Actor), Gustaf Jorde (Screenplay & Actor), Thomas Josefsson (Actor), Simon Exner (Actor), Marko Palmen (Actor), Farideh Javanbakht (Make-Up) & Maria Bexdal (Make-Up)!”

Evocation launches new single, “The Coroner”, online

– February 16th, 2017 –

On March 10th, Evocation will celebrate their return to death metal with the stunning new full-length, The Shadow Archetype! While honoring their Swedish death metal roots, The Shadow Archetype also adds thrash metal elements to their addictive, heavy sound. For a preview of the album, fans can hear the second single, “The Coroner”, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOvYMkcRfB0

Guitarist Marko Palmen comments: “‘The Coroner’ is in my eyes a classic Swedish Death Metal track in the sense that it incorporates a lot of fast 2-beat verses alongside some cool double bass drum parts. What makes this track stand out in comparison with the rest of the album and perhaps also other Death Metal tracks is that it’s tuned down to flat-A (flat-B tuning on the rest of the album). The down tuning of the guitars and the BOSS HM-2 pedal buzzsaw tone makes the riffs on ‘The Coroner’ sound as if they were forged by Lucifer himself in hell…The track also features in my opinion the best guitar solo on the entire album. Simon really managed to capture the tracks feeling with his melancholic guitar solo. This is definitely one of my favourite tracks on ‘The Shadow Archetype‘!”

Swedish death metallers Evocation sign to Metal Blade Records

– November 10th, 2016 –

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the signing of Swedish death metallers Evocation! Evocation has released four full-lengths since their debut Tales From The Tomb in 2007, and the band is looking to release their new album via Metal Blade Records in early 2017.

Evocation‘s Marko Palmen (guitars) comments: “We are extremely proud to announce the signing of a new world wide recording agreement with Metal Blade Records. Evocation will from this day on be part of a legendary roster consisting of bands such as Behemoth, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Mercyful Fate, etc.
For us it was a natural choice to join Metal Blade Records since we already for several years had a successful co-operation with them for the licensing of Evocation‘s first three albums in the USA & Canada. Metal Blade Records is also a label that is widely known for its commitment within the death metal scene, which for us means a lot.
On behalf of Evocation, I can only say that we are very pleased to have found a new home for the band. Huge thanks to Brian Slagel, our old friend Andreas Reissnauer and all the people at Metal Blade Records for making us a part of the Metal Blade family!”

Stay tuned for more news about Evocation‘s upcoming, currently untitled album coming soon!

Evocation Splits With Guitarist And Drummer, Working On New Album

Sweden’s Evocation has issued the following announcement about parting ways with two members:

“We have some sad and glad news to announce from Evocation. We’ll start with the sad news; since some months ago we received word from Janne and Vesa that they would no longer be a part of the band after 2013.

“There is no big drama behind the departure of the two brothers, it’s just that they no longer have the energy or motivation to continue and also they have different priorities in their lives nowadays. You can read their comments about leaving Evocation below. We all feel sad but we respect their decision and want to wish them good luck with their future endeavours. Also we want to thank them for all their contributions and being a part of the band ever since the beginning in 1991. Thank you and good luck Janne & Vesa!

“OK, now to the glad news; we have already recruited a new guitar player who will step in after Vesa. The new guitar player and Marko have already started working on the 5th Evocation full length album. At the moment almost half of the new album is already written. We will let you know more details of the writing process in the months to follow and the identity of the new Evocation guitar player will be revealed within the next days so stay tuned…

“Also we would like to take the opportunity and announce the search for a new drummer to Evocation. All interested drummers please send an e-mail before 27th of December to: marko@evocation.se with some lines about yourself, photo and links to videos with yourself playing.”

Former drummer Janne Bodén comments: “Hey you all… It breaks my heart to tell you that after a long time of struggle with myself trying to make the band and my family work side by side, I have to let you guyz know that my hammering behind the drums in Evocation will come to an end…

“My priorities in life has changed and I realize that life moves pretty fast and if you don’t stop and just look around and catch the moment, soon there will not be any moments left to enjoy. To all my friends, fans and band colleagues all over Europe and USA, who I have had the pleasure to get to know, and all the fucking great moments we shared and all the awesome party´s we had, I don´t mention any names because the list would be endless, but you who know me, knows who I mean. Hopefully I’m gonna see some of you somewhere sometime… Thank you!!!”

Vesa Kenttäkumpu adds: “I have thought for a long time now and it receives to say I will not continue with Evocation anymore. The motivation is not there and to succeed as a musician you have to spend an enormous amount of time and energy and there is no room for that in my living situation. I’ve had the best time with Evocation and I’ve gotten to experience everything I ever dreamed of. I hope the very best for all the guys in the band and keep up the spirit in the future. I’m going to miss you!”
