Morbid Angel Frontman Steve Tucker Slams Fake News And Clickbait Culture

Morbid Angel frontman Steve Tucker criticizes the fact that the 24-hour entertainment news cycle forces journalists to come up with sensationalized headlines for stories that are at times misleading.

Tucker, who is currently promoting Morbid Angel’s forthcoming album “Kingdoms Disdained”, tells Metal Rules in a new interview:

“In America, one of the big problems is the fact that the news has now become part of the entertainment business. There’s so many competing news organizations that are just looking for ratings. So, everything is so sensationalized and even metal. Metal has become so sensationalized. There’s so many metal web sites and metal magazines that are really just about gossip and not about metal. And, really, I have to say, personally, man, it breaks my fucking heart, because metal was always a different culture, man. Metal didn’t have anything to do with pop culture whatsoever. It was about people that want the same as everyone else and they didn’t just want to listen to candy-ass music. People were little bit different, a little bit of a counterculture.

“For ratings online and things like that, magazines are doing it for gossip, and doing it for that big headline, and to make so many people click on it and read it and just like most everything else in all our planet right now, the truth isn’t what’s important,” he continued. “The truth isn’t what’s important, it’s just the headline that makes people come and look at it… It becomes sensationalized and the real story isn’t interesting. What’s only interesting is if there was a conflict with another person and we can sensationalize it.”

“We’re metalheads. I really honestly thought that we were better than this. I really thought metalheads were not just another extension of pop culture, but, really, honestly, by being a headline-grabbing entity and by being a person that just wants to see the headline and only wants to go read about something for gossip — you’re just like the rest of pop culture. You might as well just start listening to Kanye West, and, actually, that’s probably on me, because I don’t fucking know. I don’t know a lot about pop, but you might as well just start listening to that, watching TV ten hours a day and just buy the stuff they’re selling you, because you’re not really as different as you kind of thought you were.”

Continues Tucker:

“I really wish that the metal journalists — and I don’t mean any offense for any individual whatever — I really wish that metal would see it for what it truly is, a counterculture and, I mean, to do things the same way the rest of the pop world does things makes absolutely no sense to me.”

Morbid Angel was forced to cancel its November/December European tour due to “continued problems with the U.S. State Department and passport issues.”

The band also scrapped its European summer festival appearances in July and August due to what it called “unfortunate and last-minute unforeseen problems with a passport for one of the members of the band.”

“Kingdoms Disdained” will be unleashed on December 1 via Silver Lining Music in the U.S. and JVC in Japan.

Song Premiere: Nordheim – “I Wish You Were Beer” From Forthcoming Album “Rapthor”

We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Quebec based folk metal band Nordheim’s new song “I Wish You Were Beer” streaming below. The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming album Rapthor, which is scheduled to be released on November 24th.

The band commented: “You know the feeling you get when you are impaling a busty T-Rex with your giant throbbing errecsword while lightning strikes you and transforms your hand into a fucking laser-cobra? Well this song isn’t close to that but it’s still pretty good.”

“We want to give the fans one of the heaviest and nastiest folk metal albums to date with ‘RapThor’. It is different from our first two. We had great feedback when we played the songs live. This album is the heaviest of them all while cutting back on the European folklore influences. It’s the result of our hard work over the last few years. It is super-heavy party music!” says Warraxe.

Many words come to mind when you hear the name Cannibal Corpse, but one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it very clear who sets the standard when it comes to always compelling music that is equally brutal and complex. Moreover, the band have pushed themselves again, ensuring that it stands out from their catalog. “Throughout our career we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. ‘Red Before Black‘ continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the most raw sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest and catchiest record.”

Vibrater Releases New Music Video for “Chameleon”

New York City hardcore leaders Vibrater – featuring founding members of industrial metal veterans Bile – just released their Jesse Ketive (ex-Emmure)-produced debut studio album, “New Era of Terror”, via Hong Kong label Nowed Records, and are set to perform two NYC-based shows next week – on October 29 at Revolution Bar & Music Hall and on Halloween, October 31, at Bowery Electric with Carnivore A.D.

In anticipation of these shows, Vibrater just released their latest music video for their new track “Chameleon”, cut from “New Era of Terror”. The clip was filmed and directed by Mike Zinn.

Watch it below:

Vocalist Kirk ‘Slash’ Farrington says:

“This track is about a guy we all used to be in a band with who, to be honest, was kind of a d**che and never gave anyone credit. We’ve all known someone like that in our lives, so hopefully our listeners can relate.”

“Mike Zinn has shot all of our videos thus far and totally gets us, plus he was a big fan of ours back in the day so it was easy for him to create an evolution for us on camera,” adds Farrington.

In addition to the above-mentioned shows, Vibrater just announced their upcoming US and European tours with NYC punk/hardcore legends Pro-Pain.Dates are still being confirmed, so more details will be announced soon.

Orphaned Land Reveals New Album, “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs” Release Date And Tracklisting

Oriental metal pioneers, Orphaned Land, will release their new studio album “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs on January 26th, 2018 via Century Media Records. Jens Bogren once again took over mixing duties of what turned out to be the band’s best and biggest production so far. “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs” will feature a guest appearance of guitar virtuoso Steve Hackett as well as guest vocal appearances by no other than Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates). The great album artwork was created by Valnoir.

Singer and frontman Kobi Farhi comments: “We are thrilled and so happy to finally reveal you the great artwork of ‘Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs!’ Our music has always been a combination of anger, tragedy, protest and joy. We can’t wait for you to hear the 13 brand new tracks of this album. As always it will be very eclectic, no song sounds like the other and the whole album is a one big musical journey. We feel that this album takes our feelings to a new level of anger, protest and tragedy. The cover speaks for itself and it was made as tribute to the way governments design their money. Enjoy!”
