Cannibal Corpse enlist Erik Rutan to fill in for Pat O’Brien on upcoming tours

– January 18th, 2019 –

Cannibal Corpse have announced that Erik Rutan will fill in for guitarist Pat O’Brien as O’Brien tends to personal issues. Rutan will appear live with the band for the Decibel Magazine Tour and the upcoming US leg of Slayer‘s final tour happening this May alongside Slayer, Lamb of God, and Amon Amarth. This won’t be the first time these death metal powerhouses have worked together; Rutan has produced four albums with Cannibal Corpse (Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture, Red Before Black) and is uniquely equipped to fill the role – he is one of the death metal’s most acclaimed guitarists and is known for his time as part of Morbid Angel (who are co headlining the Decibel tour alongside Cannibal) throughout the 90s and early 2000s, as well as handling vocals/guitars and production duties for his current band Hate Eternal.

About Killswitch Engage:
Formed in 1999 out of western Massachusetts, Killswitch Engage are often credited as one of the most influential metal acts in the last 20 years. Twice Grammy-nominated, they’ve sold over 3 million records worldwide, with The End of Heartache and As Daylight Dies both certified Gold in the U.S. The band has enjoyed multiple Top 10-charting albums, with 2016′s Incarnate landing at #6 on the Billboard Top 200, #1 on the Current Rock Albums chart, and debuting at #1 overall in Canada, #5 in Australia, and #10 in both the UK and Germany, a testament to the band’s international reach.

As co-founders of Killswitch Engage, guitarist/backing vocalist Adam Dutkiewicz, guitarist Joel Stroetzel, bassist Mike D’Antonio, and lead vocalist Jesse Leach (who returned four years ago after a decade-long absence) together with longtime drummer Justin Foley continue to make trend-resistant, timeless heavy music that feeds the soul, touches the heart, and strengthens the mind. Spending much of their career on the road, Killswitch Engage have enjoyed premium slots on major U.S. tours, including OzzFest, Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos, Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest, Music As a Weapon, and Trespass America, as well as countless international festivals around the globe. Having shared the stage with acts ranging from Rise Against to Slayer, the diversity and versatility of their touring is unparalleled. Their songs have been featured on Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, John Madden, the Resident Evil III soundtrack, and as entrance music for WWE wrestling champ CM Punk. The band’s compelling history can be seen in their latest release, Beyond the Flames: Home Video Vol II, a treasure trove of gripping content, containing 3.5 hours of footage, including a 75-minute documentary that chronicles the return of original vocalist Leach after nearly a decade away from the band he helped form, as well as tons of live footage from around the globe. The band recently announced its signing to Metal Blade Records, with a new album planned for 2019.

About Parkway Drive:
The five-piece metal band from Byron Bay, Australia formed in 2002. The band features vocalist Winston McCall, guitarists Luke Kilpatrick and Jeff Ling, bassist Jia O’Connor, and drummer Ben Gordon. For more than a decade, the band has stood at the forefront of heavy music worldwide, matching their uncompromising urgency with a powerful musicality. Parkway Drive has released six studio albums, all on Epitaph: Killing with a Smile (2005), Horizons (2007), Deep Blue (2010), Atlas (2012), IRE (2015), and Reverence (2018). The band has also released two platinum-selling DVDs, one EP, a split album with I Killed The Prom Queen, and one book.

Reverence, produced by longtime Parkway Drive sound engineer George Hadjichristou, is the band’s most sonically adventurous album and their most personal album to date. With its barrage of heart-shredding anthems, the album was closely informed by a series of tragedies the band had endured over the past few years. Reverence debuted in the US at #2 Current Hard Music, #34 Billboard Top 200 and #2 Current Rock Albums. The album debuted #1 in Australia and recently won the 2018 ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album.

Globally praised for their powerful live show, the band has had massive performances at festivals all over the world including Welcome to Rockville (US), Aftershock (US), Carolina Rebellion (US), Northern Invasion (US), Rock on the Range (US), Warped Tour (US), Montebello Rockfest (CA), Rock Am Ring (DE), Rock Im Park (DE), Hurricane/Southside (DE), Download Festival (UK), Reading and Leeds (UK). Cannibal Corpse will be touring in support of their latest album, Red Before Black. Many words come to mind when you hear the name Cannibal Corpse, but one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it very clear who sets the standard when it comes to always compelling music that is equally brutal and complex. Moreover, the band have pushed themselves again, ensuring that it stands out from their catalog. “Throughout our career we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. ‘Red Before Black‘ continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the most raw sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest and catchiest record.”

Deicide’s Glen Benton: ‘It’s Kind Of Hard To Write Inspired Music When You Know It’s Just Going To Be Given Away’

“That Drummer Guy” lately sat down for a chat with vocalist/bassist Glen Benton of Florida death metal outfit Deicide. You can stream the entire interview and read a few excerpts below:

Talking about today’s music industry Glen states: “Lately, the music scene has been kind of dried up. There hasn’t been too many records that have been put out recently that hype things up, that people are excited about, getting their hands out. With the music business now, it’s kind of hard to write inspired music when you know it’s just going to be given away. It’s kind of hard to invest that time and effort into something that’s going to be given away. I don’t want to say, not everybody, but there’s a lot of bands that lost their energy because of that whole thing.”

Adds Benton on Deicide’s musical progress since 1989:

“That’s how it’s supposed to happen. That’s why you have to sometimes make changes here and there to achieve that ultimate goal, but yeah, that’s the ultimate goal is to get better with each record. You can’t just stay in 1989. That’s just not going to work.”

Touring with a band as legendary as Bullet For My Valentine is a blessing and we can’t wait to see you all there! Our European/UK tour we just finished was perfect. Attila & Emmure Frontmen Beefing Via Twitter Following Attila’s New Diss Song “Callout 2”

With Emmure being one of the bands targeted in Attila‘s new single track “Callout 2“ streaming below, the outfit’s vocalist Frankie Palmeri took to Twitter (February 15th) to fire back at Attila mainman Chris Fronzak, tweeting:

Thanks for the shout out bud – I could of helped you at least write a scathing subliminal or something! @FRONZ1LLA – You also might be the first person in history to ever use the word ‘EMMURE’ in a song ??.

— FRANKIE PALMERI (@FrankiePalmeri) February 15, 2018

Y r u so scared to @ me bro?! ?? The rest of my band ain’t who you’re salty about…c’mon sen..??

— FRANKIE PALMERI (@FrankiePalmeri) February 15, 2018

Fronzak has since replied tweeting:

You’re absolutely right. I LOVE your band and every member past/present. You’re the arrogant fucktard (in real life). Why didn’t I @ you in the song? Dawg come’on…. no one knows who tf you are ????

— SLiME DADDY (@FRONZ1LLA) February 16, 2018

Palmeri firing back at Fronzak:

?? Arrogant? Bruh..the pot calling the kettle black is too real right now.

— FRANKIE PALMERI (@FrankiePalmeri) February 16, 2018

I really don’t have the energy to beef with @FRONZ1LLA – Unfortunately, I inadvertently gave birth to his entire persona and image, anyone with half a brain knows this. Its funny for him to say “no one knows you” but uses my band to chase some internet clout and feed his kids.??

— FRANKIE PALMERI (@FrankiePalmeri) February 17, 2018

I gotta admit Fronzy, you pull off the Frankie Palmeri look even better than I did.

— FRANKIE PALMERI (@FrankiePalmeri) February 17, 2018
