Ex Deo Issues “The Immortal Wars” Album Update

Ancient Rome influenced metal band Exo Deo has completed the writing process for the third installment “The Immortal Wars” after months of piecing together the new concept album surrounding the historic and famous Punic wars with Hannibal’s Carthage.

Ex Deo is set to enter JFD Studios in Texas and Pirate Studio in Montreal, Canada with producer J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm, Malevolent Creation, Misery index, Despised Icon) to record this new opus.

Frontman Maurizio Iacono describes it as “an ultimate historic lesson dipped in violence and blended with and incredibly brutal score that will transport you back in time and get your blood boiling, no details have been spared.”

Mixing duties will be handled in Sweden by acclaimed producer Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Fleshgod Apocalypse) this September. Expect an early February 2017 release via Napalm Records worldwide.

Orchestral score composer Clemens Wijers (Carach Angren, Lindmann, Pain) comments: “I had the privilege to compose and produce the orchestral score for the new phenomenal album ‘The Immortal Wars’ by Ex Deo. For me as a composer this was a huge challenge as it pushed me to reinvent myself, surrounded by the great Roman atmosphere that Ex Deo breathes throughout their music. The songs were asking for fierce aggressive orchestrations combined with emotional passages underscoring the narrative throughout. Coming from a background in writing epic and horror oriented orchestral music I was able to leave my signature on this remarkable work. I’m beyond proud of the end result and can’t wait until the album is finally out!”

Despised Icon Signs With Nuclear Blast Records

Nuclear Blast is pleased to announce the signing of the Montreal based deathcore pioneers Despised Icon. The label comments:

“For many extreme music fans, it may be hard to remember a time before Despised Icon, given the massive influence they’ve subsequently had on the genre. But when the group formed back in 2002 and released ‘Consumed By Your Poison’ the same year, there was little intersection between the sounds of classic death metal and the brute force of hardcore.

“But Despised Icon were among the first to fully embrace the signatures of the traditional death metal formula combined with a relentless embrace of breakdowns, part of an emerging new sound.

“Now Despised Icon have returned with their upcoming album entitled, ‘Beast.’ The genre-defining band is fully reawakened, poised to recapture the crown with the monstrous and merciless might of their potent expression. Featuring the men responsible for most of the band’s now classic death metal catalogue, ‘Beast’ is a vicious commentary on the state of the world and the state of music itself.”

Despised Icon added: “It’s been 7 years since our last record and our batteries are fully recharged. The O.G. line-up is back and the new shit hits hard. You’ll hear sounds of our older slammin’ death metal days blended with the speed and technicality of our latest records. Cheers to everyone that has stood by us after all these years. Can’t wait to unleash the Beast.”

Nuclear Blast’s head of retail Roy Culver further stated: “I signed Despised Icon to Century Media back in 2004 after hearing their debut record ‘Consumed By Your Poison’. The band perfected the mix of ferocious, technical death metal with a modern take on hardcore and their first record for the label, ‘The Healing Process’, broadened the minds of a whole new generation of metal heads. I love these guys and couldn’t be happier to be working with them again here at Nuclear Blast. The Icon is back!”
