Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals Recruits Former Cattle Decapitation Bassist Derek Engemann

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals are pleased to welcome former Cattle Decapitation bassist/current Scour guitarist Derek Engemann to the lineup.

Engemann – who takes the place of bass comrade Walter Howard (Grieved, Oppressive Force, Vaginal Bear Trap etc.) – will make his live debut with The Illegals beginning next week on the band’s Latin American tour where they’ll be performing Illegals tracks alongside a selection of Pantera hits.

Comments Anselmo of the new addition, “Derek is a brother; he’s solid, driven, and talented. It’s awesome to have him onboard and I look forward to jamming and writing with him. We’re lucky to have him.”

Adds Engemann, “I’m very excited to share the stage with mi hermanos in The Illegals! It’s also truly an honour to pay such a great tribute to Dime and Vinnie!”

In March, the band will make their way to Australia and New Zealand on the Thrash Blast Grind tour with Australian grind practitioners and Housecore Records labelmates King Parrot. The journey marks Anselmo’s first visit to Australia in over five years and includes a headlining set at Slayfest in Perth March 23rd. Additional support will be provided by Palm (Japan) and Potion (Australia).

The summer months will find Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals playing a host of European festivals including Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, Hellfest in France, and Metaldays in Slovenia, with more performances to be announced in the weeks to come.

Cast The Stone’s (Misery Index, Ex-Cattle Decapitation, Etc.) New EP To Be Released In August

Cast The Stone have an August 31st release date planned for their upcoming EP “Empyrean Atrophy” through Agonia Records. The group, who feature guitarist Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index, Scour), bassist Derek Engemann (ex-Cattle Decapitation, Scour), drummer Jesse Schobel (Legend, ex-Scour) and vocalist Andy Huskey, is set to launch a first single from the effort on June 07th.

Comments Kloeppel:

“The band’s sound is a testament to an enduring spirit that’s driven us to return to our most organic influences, merge them together, incorporate disparate elements, and forge our own sound. Each person has a distinct sound unto themselves, so it’s really cool how smooth and cohesive this stuff comes across.

You can immediately hear how different this is from the other things we’ve been involved in, yet it’s still very true to our individual styles. Our bassist Derek progressively weaves my guitars and Jesse‘s uber-creative drumming style together in a way that only he can. This is all crowned off by Andy Huskey’s crazy death metal vocals which are… well, just listen.”

The track listing for the outing will run as follows:

01 – “As The Dead Lie”
02 – “The Burning Horizon”
03 – “Standing In The Shadows”
04 – “A Plague Of Light”
05 – “Empyrean Atrophy”
06 – “Jesusatan”

Scour Posts New Song “Tear Gas”

In advance of the official detonation of a self-titled debut, Scour – the extreme metal collaboration uniting the talents of Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint etc.), John Jarvis (Pig Destroyer), Derek Engemann (Cattle Decapitation), Chase Fraser (Continuum, former Animosity, Decrepit Birth), and Jesse Schobel (Strong Intention) – is pleased to unveil closing track “Tear Gas” for mass devourment.

Comments Engemann of the track: “‘Tear Gas’ was the final song written for the debut EP. It was completed backstage on the Cannibal Corpse/Cattle Decapitation tour last year. Every day Jarvis and myself would ‘Scour’ for an isolated, quiet spot to set up my portable recording studio. I remember specifically Rob Barrett walking in during the tracking of this song, and gave his nod of approval [laughs]. This song has a chorus section at the end that is unique to this album. Once it was finished, I sent it to Philip to write the lyrics. Of course, The Kid completely just nailed the chorus. ‘Let the war be waged…'”

The band’s six-track, self-titled debut was mixed by Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation, Cobalt, Khemmis) and will see release July 15th, 2016 through Housecore Records on CD and vinyl formats.

Phillip H. Anselmo Fronting New Band Scour

Looks like Phil Anselmo will be providing vocals for a new project called Scour, also including Cattle Decapitation’s Derek Engemann, which just setup a Facebook profile here. The band’s lineup consists of:

Phillip H. Anselmo – Vocals
Derek Engemann – Guitar
Chase Fraser – Guitar
John Jarvis – Bass
Jesse Schobel – Drums

News of the project was revealed through an interview with Hellbound.ca, with excerpts from the chat following.

Hellbound.ca: Speaking of some of the other projects and things you’re working on, your drummer Joey Gonzalez has spoken with me about some death metal that you and him have been working on. And I wanted to mention the project Scour (also including Derek from Cattle Decapitation and Chase from Animosity on guitars, Jesse from Strong Intention/Cast The Stone on drums, and John from Pig Destroyer/Agoraphobic Nosebleed/Fulgora on bass).

Anselmo: (laughter) You already got wind of that one, too. The death metal thing, well really it’s tracked and, in my opinion, finished. It’s a matter of negotiation now between me and one of the other members of when and why and what and band names and all. It’s all political stuff and semantics. Other than that, the Scour thing was something that just popped up, and it’s something that I think I can kill, something I can lay it out. They’re short songs. It’s a short EP, and that’s something I can knock out, I guess, after the Danzigs tour. And yes, I said Danzigs, and that’s a long story.

Hellbound.ca: What style is Scour?

Anselmo: I think (there’s) one of the fellows from Cattle Decapitation, but it’s predominantly, in my ear, modern-ish black metal-sounding, thrashy black metal type stuff. I’m going to put my own spin on it. I don’t have to sound like your boy from Gorgoroth (laughter) to get the point across, man. There’s other ways of singing over that style of music, and I shall employ many styles.

CATTLE DECAPITATION currently writing the follow up to “Monolith of Inhumanity”

– December 20th, 2013 –

Set to play with EYEHATEGOD and STRONG INTENTION this January!

Cattle Decapitation has begun the writing process for the follow up to 2012′s Monolith of Inhumanity, which has been lauded as the band’s finest and most complex release to date. Decibel Magazine gave the album a 9/10 review calling it “a behemoth of an album; probably the best of their prolific history…a masterstroke of rule-shattering extreme metal worthy of album of the year consideration.” Decibel Magazine also placed the album at #13 on their top 40 Extreme Metal Albums of 2012 calling it “perfection” while the folks at About.com ranked the album #2 on their Best Heavy Metal Albums of 2012.

“Since we got home from THE SUMMER SLAUGHTER TOUR the guys have been hard at work on new material! I actually go in next week to grab a quick run through of the first new track they have completed so I can start writing lyrics to it. I have heard the track and I hate to say anything just yet because we will be spending the next full year from now working on the next album, but I will say the stuff they’re working on is intense. I can’t wait to start writing lyrics to it and so far is in league with one of our current musical aspirations… to make fans of our last record shit themselves!

We’ll be taking a small break to play a few shows in our region with EYEHATEGOD and our friends STRONG INTENTION on their January tour!”

Cattle Decapitation’s next album is tentatively due out early 2015. Stay tuned to both the band and label’s sites for more updates on the new record and future tour dates.

Cattle Decapitation is:
Travis Ryan: Vocals
Josh Elmore: Guitar
Dave McGraw: Drums
Derek Engemann: Bass
