Born Of Osiris Premiere New Track “Analogs In A Cell”

Below you can take in a brand new track called “Analogs In A Cell” from Born Of Osiris‘ fifth studio album “The Simulation”, which will be released January 11th.

Says guitarist Lee McKinney of it:

“This specific song is such a fun little journey to look back on for me. I started writing it back in 2016 or 2017. It was one of the first songs I wrote for the new album after moving to Dallas [and] the song has seen a couple different forms over the past couple years. Regardless, I was sleeping in the studio we rented to track this album.

The guys would come in the morning and leave in the late afternoon, but I’d still be there the rest of the time. I used late nights as the time to track all of the instruments for it after we had drums. ‘Analogs In A Cell‘ became my fun little late night project. The best part about forgetting the guitar parts from the demo was rewriting them and making them better.

The demo guitars were very similar, but I tweaked all of the leads and made them more interesting. The entire ending was chugging. I was getting bored with it and I knew I could do better. I started replacing the chugs with notes, then bringing them up an octave, and eventually I ended up writing entirely new guitars for the end.

Then I matched the bass with the guitar. I absolutely love how that song ends now. The fact that it was all made brand new in the studio gave it a longer shelf life for me. Usually when we’re done tracking, I’m also done hearing the songs. I don’t want to listen to them. This song is different. I’m still enjoying hearing all the changes that were made and I can’t wait to see what everyone else thinks.

I think a cool element of this record is how different each song is. They are all very much Born Of Osiris, but they all have different vibes and bring different things to the table. ‘Analogs In A Cell‘ has a very live feel. I can’t wait to perform it. All the guitar parts are really shreddy but also fun to play. The guys wrote some amazing lyrics and vocals to the song. Beginning to end, this is one of my favorites on ‘The Simulation‘.”

You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with their latest album, Two Paths, they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is simultaneously the Finnish quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. Additionally, the album literally takes the concept of Two Paths to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks “Don’t You Say” and “God Is Dead”. “Even though Ensiferum has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,” explains bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka. With Mikko P. Mustonen again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both Two Paths and its predecessor, One Man Army. “It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.”

Cannibal Corpse will be touring in support of their latest album, Red Before Black. Many words come to mind when you hear the name Cannibal Corpse, but one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it very clear who sets the standard when it comes to always compelling music that is equally brutal and complex. Moreover, the band have pushed themselves again, ensuring that it stands out from their catalog. “Throughout our career we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. ‘Red Before Black‘ continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the most raw sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest and catchiest record.”
