Earlier this week, Metal Blade Records and BMG released For the Sake of Heaviness: The History of Metal Blade Records – written by label founder and CEO Brian Slagel with Mark Eglinton, and featuring a foreword by Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich. Now, fans of For the Sake of Heaviness can purchase exclusive bundles and Metal Blade memorabilia through PledgeMusic: pledgemusic.com/projects/metalbladebook

Glenn Danzig To Release Black Sabbath Covers Album

Heavy metal veteran Glen Danzig has confirmed that his eponymous band is following up the latest record, “Skeletons,” which consisted of numerous cover versions including the Black Sabbath classic, “N.I.B.” with a whole album devoted to Black Sabbath covers.

His cover of the aforementioned song received substantial feedback from social media as well as internet comment sections and the explicit music video for the song has thus far received over 150,000 views on YouTube.

With such a strong reaction to it, the singer, who claims he has found his definitive vocal style at last, will be returning to the studio to artistically interpret such classics as “Paranoid,” “War Pigs,” “The Wizard” and the previously instrumental piece, “Fluff,” which he has penned lyrics for.

No confirmation has yet been received as to whether the videos for these songs will feature more porn stars.

Corrosion Of Conformity Signs Deal With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast Entertainment is pleased to announce the worldwide signing of metal outfit Corrosion Of Conformity.

The band will enter the studio late this winter/early spring with longtime producer John Custer, who has recorded such prior C.O.C. classics as “Deliverance,” “Wiseblood,” “America’s Volume Dealer,” and “In The Arms Of God.” The as-of-yet-untitled-album will mark the band’s studio reunion with vocalist/guitarist Pepper Keenan and a first full-length record since 2005.

Says Keenan about the new partnership: “To all the C.O.C. fans worldwide, Mike, Reed, Woody and I are proud to announce that we are starting our next sonic adventure with Nuclear Blast Entertainment! We are honored and psyched to be a part of the Blasted Family, both professionally and artistically. After all these years, it‘s truly inspiring to reawaken the chemistry that the four of us have. We are seriously fucking with our pants off now! We do not take this journey lightly and cannot wait to return to the studio to drop Ze’ Hammer! All of this would not be possible without the global support of all you free thinkers and beer drinkers. Much love and respect and look forward to to seeing you soon.”

President of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, Monte Conner adds: “I love all the incarnations of C.O.C. over the years but the Pepper-fronted version has always been the definitive line-up of the band for me. Ever since hearing Pepper take charge on 1991’s ‘Vote With A Bullet’ I was dying to hear him sing more with the band. This line-up’s 1994 debut ‘Deliverance,’ with its signature tracks ‘Clean My Wounds” and ‘Albatross,’ was an instant classic and is still one of my all-time favorite albums.

“It has been a long 10 years since their fourth album – the highly underrated ‘In The Arms Of God’ – and as a fan, I am dying to hear what these guys come up with next. I know it will be a monster. The fact that it is coming out on Nuclear Blast is very fulfilling for me and many others on the Nuclear Blast team as we finally get to work with one of our favorite bands.”

Udo Dirkschneider To Stop Playing Accept Songs Live

At a press conference in the VIP tent of Wacken Open Air, metal singer Udo Dirkschneider dropped some bombshell news: the 62 year old cult musician announced his definitive farewell to the Accept song library.

On a special tour beginning in 2016, he will perform songs by Accept one last time before he retires them for good.

During this Accept farewell tour, he will only showcase songs from the Udo era of the band.
In the early 80s, the Solingen-raised singer skyrocketed to worldwide acclaim with the band Accept and with his unmistakable voice on hits such as “Balls To The Wall,” “Metal Heart,” and “Princess Of The Dawn.”

“I still love singing these songs live,“ Dirkschneider says. “The songs are still an important part of my catalogue and still suit my voice very well. But at some point in your life, it’s just time to close the chapter. There has been so much talk and speculation about Accept, so I just want to give my last definitive musical statement about it and give my fans a chance to see me perform a complete concert of these songs one last time on stage.”

After this tour, Udo will only play songs from his extensive library of U.D.O. material. “There is enough high quality material to fill a two hour set with no problem,” says Dirkschneider. “U.D.O. has been the band where I belong for 18 years and I want to pay tribute to them from now on.”

The musician will not perform this farewell tour under the name U.D.O. but simply as Dirkschneider.

Toney Carey To Guest On Rainbow Cover With A Sound Of Thunder

Tony Carey (Rainbow, Planet P Project) has recorded keyboards on A Sound of Thunder’s cover of Rainbow classic “Death Alley Driver.” The track is exclusively available via A Sound of Thunder’s current Kickstarter campaign which exploded through its original goal in 21 hours and which runs through August 17th (make your pledge here). A preview of the track can be heard streaming in the player below.

Despite an imposing catalog as a solo artist and with his own Planet P Project, among metal-heads Tony Carey is best known as part of the definitive lineup of Rainbow. Along with Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, and Jimmy Bain, Carey performed on the seminal “Rising” and “On Stage” albums. Carey’s hair-raising synthesizer notes on “Tarot Woman” and haunting Mellotron chords on “Stargazer” are just some of his highlights on “Rising”, an archetypal cornerstone album of melodic and power metal.

“This is a very cool cover of a very cool song, by a very cool band. So that’s all cool…” said Carey. “As far as my part goes, I threw down some old-school Hammond and played a much-too-fast solo bit on a Minimoog (remember those?) and woke up on the Sunset Strip in pre-Apocalypse 1976… lots of fun, and not something I do very often. Hollywood Swingin’! Thanks for having me.”

A Sound of Thunder guitarist Josh Schwartz added: “Tony is an immensely accomplished musician and producer and I can’t overstate how honored I am to have him on our recording. His work with Rainbow only scratches the surface of his many talents. Fans will know that Tony didn’t play on the original version of ‘Death Alley’. By adding wall-to-wall Hammond organ and his own personal style, Tony has warmed up the song and given it a kick in the pants and a very cool ’70s vibe not present on the original.”

A Sound of Thunder recently announced its new album “Tales from the Deadside,” the full-length concept album based on Valiant Entertainment’s Shadowman comic book series. The album was recorded at Assembly Line Studios with RIAA-platinum awarded producer Kevin ‘131’ Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). “Tales from the Deadside” is set for release on September 25th.

“The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world inspired us to create what we believe is our best album to date,” said A SOUND OF THUNDER guitarist Josh Schwartz. “We let the story lead us to places our music has never been before, combining all the elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found in the comics. Of course everything has gone through our own unique Thunderous filter, and all the familiar ASOT elements will be there. Shadowman’s harrowing journey demanded no less!”

The track listing for the album is:

1. Children of the Dark
2. Sandria (Carry On)
3. Can’t Hold Back
4. Deadside
5. Tower of Souls
6. Losing Control (The Unquiet Shadow)
7. Punk Mambo
8. Alyssa (Life in Shadows)
9. Tremble
10. End Times
