Faces Of The Bog Releasing “Ego Death” Via DHU Records

Chicagoland’s psychedelic sludge masters Faces Of The Bog will officially release “Ego Death” through DHU Records this coming September 22nd, 2017.

Initially conceived in a dingy rehearsal space in Humboldt Park during the fall of 2011, Faces of The Bog fast became a celebrated secret following the initial self-release of debut album “Ego Death” late last year.

Produced and engineered by the band and Sanford Parker (Voivod, Yob, Wreckmeister Harmonies, Bloodiest) at Electrical Audio and Decade Music Studios, “Ego Death” hit pretty damn hard for an independent offering. Released digitally and on CD in October 2016, Metal Injection was quick to praise its “existential ride of psychedelic waves and auras and collection of bangin’ sludge jams.”

“It’s truly amazing these days when an underground band from a US city like Chicago can release an album completely on their own,” explains guitarist/vocalist Trey Wedgeworth. “We’ve been amazed and humbled by the feedback we’ve received all over the world. Fans from places like Germany, Norway, Portugal, Brazil, Australia, and Russia have all reached out to us to give their kind words to what we’re doing.”

It was while playing a handful of shows last year with pacific north-westerners Mother Crone that the band was introduced to the work of Netherland-based record label, DHU Records.

“Mother Crone ran into some transportation issues while out on tour and we were fortunate enough to be able to help some good dudes in need,” says Wedgeworth. “They more than repaid the favour by putting us in touch with Robert Black at DHU Records. DHU is a DIY label that releases limited edition vinyl packages for some of the heaviest bands in underground music today, so we quickly forged a great relationship and are completely ecstatic that he’s now re-releasing Ego Death on vinyl.”

Mordatorium Debuts New Track “The Culling” From Upcoming New Album “Obsessed With Death”

Chicago death metal trio Mordatorium is proud to announce the August 25 release of new album “Obsessed With Death”. Inspired by the likes of Grave, Carcass, and early Entombed, Mordatorium deliver harsh, biting death metal fueled by the sounds of the early British and Swedish scenes.

With main man Andrew Oosterbaan handling guitars, bass, and vocal duties alongside Pearl Kacew on drums, recording for “Obsessed With Death” began over the final months of 2016 and the album was completed in the spring of 2017. The cover artwork and visual design was created by Lauren Gornik Illustration.

Check out now “The Culling” below.

Obsessed With Death by Mordatorium

Andrew Oosterbaan comments:

“We’re very excited to present this album, as it has been a long time in the making. A couple of the songs are almost two years old now! It’s also a big pleasure to be able to unleash the first full-length Mordatorium release featuring acoustic drums and my longtime partner in crime Pearl. Obsessed With Death continues the trend begun on 2014’s Raw, steering away from the more melodic and experimental material of Mordatorium’s early years in favor of some more straight forward and nasty sounding death metal. I absolutely love the old-school looking artwork that Lauren did for us, as I feel it fits the current style of the band nicely.”

Details Of New EP Posted By Purtenance, New Song Available For Streaming

Legendary Finnish death metal masters Purtenance are back with a new release! It’s a four-song EP entitled “Paradox of Existence” and it’s scheduled for international release on September 12th through Xtreem Music! Check out the opening song “In the End Only Death Will Remain” in the player at the bottom.

After returning to a five-piece lineup, Purtenance began to work on new tunes, which were recorded during the first half of 2017, and are now released as an EP that follows the trademarked heavy old-school Finnish death metal for which the band is known since its inception in 1989. The EP cover artwork (shown below) was once again made by Chris Moyen, who’s done every Purtenance cover artwork since the debut album “Member of Immortal Damnation” in 1992.

The artwork and track listing are as follows:

1. In the End Only Death Will Remain
2. Vicious Seeds of Mortality
3. Paradox of Existence
4. Nekro Orgy
