Alkaloid (Obscura) Debut New Track “As Decreed By Laws Unwritten”

Alkaloid, featuring current and former members of Obscura and more, debut another track from their new album “Liquid Anatomy“. “As Decreed By Laws Unwritten” is the latest single to land from it, which arrives in stores on May 18th via Season Of Mist. You can stream the track now over at nocleansinging.com.

Explains the band’s guitarist Danny Tunker:

“This was the second song I wrote for ‘Liquid Anatomy‘. When we first started sending demos and talking about songs we felt we needed some heavier songs. We had the title track, which is a ballad, ‘Kernel Panic‘ which didn’t have a heavy section yet and another song I wrote, which was a mellotron driven prog-ballad at that point and turned into ‘In Turmoil’s Swirling Reaches‘ later.

As a result Florian wrote ‘Azagthoth‘ and I wrote ‘As Decreed By Laws Unwritten‘. Most of the song was written in one sitting in a hotel room, but after it was conceived it went through various incarnations with a full-on flamenco part and even a string section. When I completed the lyrics I chose to drop those sections in favour of the desolate atmospheric section that’s there now.

This song also marks my singing debut with Alkaloid. I’d never done any screaming or harsh vocals but since I had a clear idea of how I wanted the vocals to be I just did demoed them at home. We found out that my voice blends quite nice with Florian‘s, so for this album I’m providing backing vocals on most songs. I’m extremely happy with how this song came out. Recording the rhythm parts over Hannes‘ ultra heavy groove was one of my favourite moments in the making of this album.”

Aborted And Guitarist Danny Tunker Have Parted Ways.

Aborted just announced Danny Tunker’s departure via the following official statement:

“So sometimes there’s good news and sometimes there’s not so good news. Today is one of the not so good news days. After three amazing years guitarist Danny Tunker decided he needed to step back from the band and pursue a different path in life. Combining a normal life and day job became too stressful to combine with our heavy schedule and even if we are sad to see him go, we completely understand his decision and support him in doing what makes him happy in life.

We had 3 great years with Danny and we all felt like a big family so we ask you all to show respect towards both Danny, his decision and the band, there is no bad blood, there is no need for any drama or gossip, Danny had the following to day:

“After a lot of soul searching for the past few months I’ve decided to part ways with Aborted. It’s been a hell of a ride and I want to thank to guys for all the good, bad and in between times. There’s no bad blood and I wish the band all the best, but I needed a change. I will still play the shows in Cairo and Tel Aviv and then on to different ventures (several of which I’m working on right now). And of course continue/expand my involvement with Alkaloid. So, once again, thanks to the band and everyone who made the past 3+ years completely unforgettable.”

Continues Aborted:

“We will be trying out several candidates in the next few weeks and fear not, none of the shows will be cancelled. We are working hard on the next fullength album and we have another surprise to be unleashed before the end of the year. So even if this something we didn’t want to happen, things go on and we intend to keep giving 200% for all you guys out there and wish Danny all the best with his new endeavours.”

Alkaloid Launches “The Malkuth Grimoire” Crowd Funding Campaign

New progressive metal supergroup Alkaloid – featuring singer Morean (Dark Fortress, Noneuclid), drummer Hannes Grossmann (Blotted Science, ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist), guitarists Christian Muenzner (Spawn of Possession, ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist) and Danny Tunker (Aborted, ex-God Dethroned), and bassist Linus Klausenitzer (Obscura, Noneuclid) – has announced an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in support of the band’s upcoming debut album “The Malkuth Grimoire.”

The album is due in Spring 2015. The following press release was also issued about the new project:

“Alkaloid is a band that is defined through the field of tension created between the musical opposites. The band merges extreme metal and other more diverse music genres into a unique style that most people will find familiar, but haven’t heard yet.

“The band members are well-known and are active in some of the leading death metal bands today, but they all have a much broader view of music than just blastbeats and growls. From the beginning, Alkaloid tends to show multifaceted approach to the music, oscillating between stylistically diverse segments.”

“The music we write with Alkaloid is very diverse, it’s radical, new, and it’s very progressive. Music labels want music that they can label,” Hannes Grossman says in a video about the choice of starting a crowd funding campaign.
