Second To Sun Premiere New Song & Music Video “The Train 1702” From Upcoming New Album “The Walk”

Russian metal outfit SECOND TO SUN will release their new album The Walk on November 25. An official video for the track “The Train 1702” is streaming below:

The band released the following statement concerning the song:

“This song is based on the urban legend of the North of Russia. It is about the freight train number 1702, which travels through the deep forests of Northern Europe. According to legend, during the journey, the crew meets an alien object that first surrounds the train, and then picks up the train and moves it with a giant speed. The song describes what is happening and the emotional feeling of the crew, including visual and sound design tools (the average tempo of the composition, like the train, guitar parts emphasize what the song is about, there are original sounds of the train). Musically, the song is inspired by American groove metal and Scandinavian black metal.”

Avenged Sevenfold Stagehand Dies After Accident At German Show

Currently out on tour in Europe, Avenged Sevenfold just issued this announcement about one person dying and another being seriously injured during last night’s German show:

“We have some very sad news to report. Last night after our show in Stuttgart, Germany, a 26 year-old stagehand fell from the rafters while breaking down our stage. He fell a very far distance onto a 19 year-old man on the local crew. Tragically, the 19 year-old died from his injuries. The other man is now in critical condition at the hospital.

“This is beyond heartbreaking to everyone in the band and on our crew. We all send our thoughts and prayers to the man in the hospital, both families involved, all of the local Live Nation crew and everyone else whose lives have been affected by this terrible accident.

“We love our crew so much as well as the many local staff who are essential to our show every night wherever we are around the world. This is such a stark reminder of how quickly an accident can happen and lives shattered in the process. When we hear more we will update you.”

Solstafir Comments On Swedish Rock Festivals

The Icelandic heathens in Solstafir have checked in with the following recap of recent festival appearances:

“We’re back home in Iceland after playing Sweden Rock Festival and Rock Hard Festival this weekend. Both were absolutely great despite some really bad luck at RH.

“When Addi opened his Flying V case an hour before gig he discovered that that neck of the guitar had broken (again!) on the flight over from Sweden. Luckily Dead Lord were kind enough to lend us their’s despite the fact that they had no idea who we even were. Super big thanks to them, and do check them out if you like good rock’n’roll!

“Then comes change over and line check and everything seems to be working fine, but as the intro is about to finish Addi’s amp decided to die a sudden death and it didn’t make a single sound. With help from the super professional crew at RH the amp was quickly changed and the rock could commence.

“But all troubles were not over. In the beginning of the last song the head of the ride cymbal stand simply fell off. No matter how much I and the crew tried to fasten it it just would not stay there. But again the crew was quick to replace it with another one so no harm there, as you can hear in the video here.

“Some gigs are just like that… but at the end we had a really great time, and that’s what counts!”

Solstafir is also currently working on a new album titled “Ótta” to be released on August 29th (September 2nd in North America). This album will follow 2011’s “Svartir Sandar” (reviewed here).

Gloryful Posts “Ocean Blade” Track-By-Track Breakdown

Gloryful’s new album “Ocean Blade” will be released on April 25th, 2014 via Massacre Records. The album was mixed by Dan Swanö and mastered by Powerwolf’s guitarist Charles Greywolf. Kris Verwimp is responsible for the cover artwork.

Today drummer Hartmut Stoof has released a new track-by-track breakdown covering the second half of the album. Here’s what Stoof had to say about the album:

Black Legacy: Black Legacy is more or less the ballad on the album. It contains many folk influences and some instruments from this specific period. This song is musically and lyrically meant as the calm before the storm.

All Men To The Arms: This one is also very strong and powerful, expressing an overflowing energy. As the title suggests, this song is a call – for the crew to fight and for you out there to bang your head and raise your fist! The drumming and guitar picking reinforce the lyrics, that describe the battle between the crew and mighty Sedna in the first part of this song. Lyrical based stops in the chorus create catchy hooklines. As you will recognize, the second half is completely different, starting with a guitar solo and a typical Manowar-styled verse, leading to the chorus, in which the title is demandingly sung. To put the final touches to the song, Adrian Weiss performs a killer guitar solo.

McGuerkin On The Bridge: Captain Karl McGuerkin is a fictional character. Each crew needs a bold and frightening badass – especially on this voyage. Musically the song offers a contrast of a raw lyrical characterization and a melodic composition. This song has a lot of drive and sounds very compact. With its 3 minutes playing time, this song is the shortest on this record, but you will not miss a thing in it – that’s for sure! This one is pure power metal!

Siren Song: The guitar leads are apparently a tribute to Running Wild! The lyrics are about the sirens, based on the Odysseus myth in context of a sailor’s adventures. The verses are groovy and the tempo switches in the bridge to raise the energy to an opening chorus. Ramona Kunze’s vocals in the middle of the track fit perfectly to the atmosphere and they exactly sound like what you may expect from a siren who’s luring others to destruction with her enchanting voice.

Ocean Legacy: Ocean Legacy is the instrumental outro. This one is bringing back the Black Legacy theme on cello, performed by Jens’ cousin Gunnar Vosgröne, and also the sounds of breaking waves you’ve heard in the album intro.

Rob Zombie Makes Appearance On History’s “Counting Cars”

As the kick-off date for San Bernardino, CA was ramping up and the fans were lining up, Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival main stage closing artist Rob Zombie was doing a bit of heavy metal double tasking: filming behind-the-scenes for History’s “Counting Cars” latest episode, in which the Count’s Kustoms crew delivers a custom macabre-style overhaul on Rob’s 1967 Ford F-100.

The premiere episode, partially filmed on location at the Mayhem Festival kick-off date, will air on Tuesday, July 16th at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central Time. The following press release was also issued:

“Although the crew at Las Vegas based Count’s Kustoms are not new to the game, the finished product was no small feat. History’s ‘Counting Cars’ star Danny ‘The Count’ Koker and his crew had just seven days to work on the truck and deliver it to Rob at the San Bernardino, CA kick-off— a turnaround faster than they’ve ever experienced on any project. Starting on July 19th in Camden, NJ, Rob Zombie’s 1967 Ford F-100 will be touring with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

“Every ‘Counting Cars’ episode features stories behind vintage vehicles, striking before-and-after transformations, and Danny ‘The Count’ Koker’s relentless compulsion to find and flip the greatest rides of all time, at any cost.”

In April, Rob Zombie released his fifth solo album, “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor” (reviewed here), the first release on his new label, Zodiac Swan. Catch Rob Zombie live:
