Gygax Releasing New Album “Critical Hits”

Creator-Destructor Records is ultra-stoked to announce the impending release of “Critical Hits,” the debut LP by California-based quartet Gygax. Check out new track “Draw Breath” below.

Gygax is a no-frills, classic rock/heavy metal hybrid, heavily steeped in the imagery of fantasy literature and role playing games, and rooted in the musical stylings of metallic ’70s rockers Thin Lizzy and Deep Purple, with equal parts metal and boogie-inducing groove.

Though the name is attributed to the creator of Dungeons & Dragons, the band has described itself more simply as “a beacon and an anthem for anyone who’s interests lie in creativity and the powers of imagination.”

Hailing from Ventura, California, Gygax was born out of the ashes of vocalist/bassist Eric Harris’ previous heavy-metal brainchild, Gypsyhawk, whose “Patience & Perseverance” 2xLP also saw release through Creator-Destructor in 2009. Bryant Throckmorton, who played second guitar in Gypsyhawk also joins Harris in Gygax on guitar. When Gypsyhawk decided to disband, Harris and Throckmorton took some time alongside friend and fellow guitarist Armand John Lizzy to begin demoing new material, then solidifying their lineup with Justin Dempsey on drums.

These maiden Gygax recordings are set to see a January 22nd release date via Creator-Destructor on 12″ LP pressed on 180-gram colored vinyl, and on all digital platforms. The track listing is as follows:

1. Lesser Magick
2. World Breaker
3. Draw Breath
4. The Rope of Shadow
5. Dirge For A Deposed Duke
6. Chain Lightning
7. Demons
8. Liliana
9. The Hunter’s Heart

Enabler Inks Deal With Century Media

Century Media Records has signed Ohio-based hardcore/metal band, Enabler. The label had this to say:

“Led by front man, songwriter, and guitarist Jeff Lohrber, Enabler stands as one of the most honest, pissed off, and heartfelt metallic hardcore bands around today.

“The band’s sound, which is a unique mixture of thrash, death metal, punk rock, and hardcore has made an impact all over the world since their debut EP, Eden Sank to Grief, was first released on Andy Hurley’s FC Records in 2010.

“Two full length albums, three EPs, and multiple split and compilation appearances have been released on various labels since then, including the critically acclaimed 2012 break-through album, All Hail the Void, on Southern Lord Records.

“In 2014, the band released their 2nd full length LP, La Fin Absolue Du Monde, on Creator Destructor/Earsplit Compound. The album title is based off of the John Carpenter movie Cigarette Burns. Recording was done in December of 2013 by engineer Shane Hotchstetler at Howl Street Recordings in Milwaukee, and it was mastered by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day at Austin Enterprise.

“The amazing artwork was finished by Chris Smith at Gray Aria design. The album was performed by Lohrber on guitar and vocals, Amanda Daniels playing bass and providing backing vocals, and Ringworm touring member Ryan Steigerwald on drums.”

Enabler played Century Media’s 2012 SXSW showscase (with The Atlas Moth, Young And In The Way, and more) and kept in close contact with the label. Following the release of La Fin Absolue Du Monde, the label offered a deal and shortly after, plans were made to re-issue that album through Europe. Lohrber went back to Howl Street to record a few bonus tracks and on December 8th, the album (with 3 additional tracks) will be released throughout Europe. The track listing is as follows:

1. Close My Eyes
2. New Life
3. Neglect
4. I’ve Got A Bad Feeling About This
5. Information Overload
6. Balance of Terror
7. World Sterilization
