Evergrey Posts New Song “Currents” Online

Swedish dark melodic metal masters, Evergrey, are streaming the new song “Currents”, a track from the band’s new studio album, The Atlantic, out on January 25th. Listen below.

The band has worked extensively on the follow-up to their highly successful 2016’s effort The Storm Within (which entered the charts on high positions in numerous countries). Again, Evergrey teamed up with Jacob Hansen, who – just like with the band’s previous releases The Storm Within and Hymns For The Broken took care of mixing and mastering.

Tom S. Englund states: “Guys! This is album number 11! Isn’t that just sick?! It’s also the third album of a concept that might have reached its destination or at least one conclusion. It might also have been something that some of you saw coming or anticipated?

“We’ve fought through giant private obstacles as well as an extremely complicated break-in at our Headquarters studio to bring this album to you. So at the same time as it’s certainly not been painless or at all easy, it’s been rewarding in new ways and our creativity has been painted in colors of honesty and sincerity.

“This is our heaviest, darkest, and perhaps also our most diverse album to date. It’s everything we wanted to compose and the written words come straight from a place of transparency and never before experienced lucidity. Finally, as of yesterday, we’ve reached new shores. We can’t wait for you to share this journey with us and dive into our worlds, our depths, and the waters of The Atlantic!”

Primal Fear Working On New Studio Album “Apocalypse”

Primal Fear are back in the studio working on their upcoming new album, “Apocalypse”. 12 brand new crushing heavy metal tracks have been selected, out of 30 newly written tracks, which will be produced by PF’s own Mat Sinner and engineered & mixed by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Denmark. The album is tentatively scheduled for release in mid-2018.

New song titles include “Apocalypse”, “New Rise”, “The Hounds Of Justice”, “King Of Madness”, “The Beast”, “Blood, Sweat & Fear” and the 10-minute extravaganza “Eye Of The Storm”. Stylistically, the new tunes follow the same path that started on the most successful Primal Fear album so far, “Rulebreaker”.

Ralf Scheepers: “I don’t know where it comes from and how we do it, but we seem to have a real flow in writing some cool heavy metal tunes since quite a while. And again, nothing will be released which we are not 100% satisfied with. You can trust the seal of the brand Primal Fear.”

Mat Sinner adds: “I’m really surprised about the creativity in the band. Every band member contributes on the song writing and I’m super happy about the chosen songs and the production so far. You can expect a full energy driven metal album with a maximum attitude and raw power!”

Primal Fear will support the new album release with an extensive summer festival tour in 2018, followed by a world tour.

Primal Fear:
Ralf Scheepers – Lead Vocals
Tom Naumann – Guitars
Alexander Beyrodt – Guitars

The Nuclear Power Trio: Trump, Kim Jong Un, Mike Tyson shoot music video to promote world peace!

– July 10th, 2017 –

Donald Trump, Kim Jong Un, and Mike Tyson unite to form musical supergroup “The Nuclear Power Trio” to promote world peace! Featuring Nick Schendzielos, Greg Burgess, and Pete Webber, respectively. With the tensions at an all time high, and the threat of nuclear war looming in the air, the timing is just right to get together and solve our problems with an epic fusion jam that’s sure to incite world peace. Promote world peace and watch now at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRMWOyphVI0

Nick Schendzielos:
I’m extremely pleased to finally unleash this new video on the interweb. It’s truly amazing to see all this creativity brought to life by these insanely realistic masks from Landon Meier. Yuge thanks to the entire team for making this happen!

Pete Webber:
As hilarious and awesome it was making this video, it was a very cool experience to play something other than heavy metal! Very cool to show some different musicianship that we could accomplish! I believe the whole project came out great and I can’t wait to do more!

Greg Burgess:
What’s better than getting to jam with dudes you respect; dudes who have been good friends AND you respect. When Nick asked me if I was interested in doing his next video, I of course said yes, but I totally wanted to raise the bar musically on what had been done before. I studied what Nick did with Dave Davidson, cranked up some Zappa and some Gloria Estafan, and got to work. Working with these dudes has been nothing short of an incredible experience. 10/10, would bang again.

Kimberly Freeman Announces New Album “Secret Lullaby”

Kimberly Freeman of One-Eyed Doll has announced her third solo album, “Secret Lullaby,” is set for release on July 1st, 2017. With this album, Freeman is exploring new sonic territories including progressive rock leaning tracks (“Rust,” “Cream and Sugar”), heavy piano ballads (“The Thief,” “Journey Of Art”), and even R&B-inspired beats (“Amnesia”, “The Missing Link”).

Teaming up again with longtime producer and bandmate Jason Rufuss Sewell, the pair have created a magical and colorful collection of songs unlike anything they’ve released thus far.

Jason Rufuss Sewell says, “We spend a lot of time in the studio. In fact, it’s our favorite place to be and sometimes we get very creative and make songs that just don’t fit in the One-Eyed Doll rock drums and guitar vein. Over the last few years we’ve been crafting this Secret Lullaby concept and we’re both really excited to let our fans hear what we get up to when we don’t set any limitations or preconceived notions of what style of music we’re ‘supposed’ to make, and just let our creativity flow. One-Eyed Doll is still going strong, and we have some big announcements coming. For now, we hope our fans will appreciate this very special album.”

To coincide with the announcement, Freeman has released a music video for the single “Rust.” She explains of the track, “‘Rust’ is the tale of a ship who falls in love with her captain and hopes to keep him with her at sea forever. In his loneliness, the captain loses his mind and follows the sound of a siren, plunging the two to their tragic fate.”

Freeman ties her natural knack for storytelling into the album explaining, “I’m often inspired by other people’s stories, and ‘Secret Lullaby’ goes there a lot. Most of the songs aren’t about me, and some of them aren’t even told from the perspective of a human. Each song has its own special background, but here are a few examples:

“‘The Missing Link’ is the true story of Oliver, the so-called, ‘Humanzee’ who was kidnapped from the jungle, exploited by his handlers and touted as the missing link between humans and chimps. He was eventually abandoned to an infamous animal testing lab for years, where he went blind. Eventually, he was rescued and taken in by a sanctuary called Primarily Primates in Texas, where he met his best friend and fellow ex-lab chimp Raisin. In this song, Oliver tells Raisin the story of his career as the Humanzee, his time spent in the lab and finally, his meeting of her. I was inspired to write this song after meeting Oliver and Raisin at the habitat. Oliver was a very sweet chimp, and so was Raisin. They were really cute together, like a little old couple.

“‘Hoof Horn Tooth Claw’ is told from the perspective of a young pregnant pygmy goat who doesn’t understand the changes that are occurring in her body. Jason, my producer and bandmate, had a goat farm when I met him, so this song reflects a little bit of that time and place in our history.

“‘Lions and Lilies’ is a memorial to Jason’s late grandmother who had a beautiful garden of lilies and lion sculptures. She was a brilliant woman, multilingual, owned a translation company and had her own cooking show on Telemundo. The only lyrics are, ‘leones y lirios,’ in tribute to her love of the Spanish Language.

“‘Journey of Art’ is told by an old dog who was both blind and deaf. His owner, Art, was a kind man who loved him very much, but who’s untreated Schizophrenia made him unintentionally neglectful of both his and the dog’s health. However through the years, they were inseparable best friends. Very shortly after the dog died, so did Art.”

Barren Earth Recruits New Keyboardist Antti Myllynen

Keyboardist Antti Myllynen has officially joined the ranks of Barren Earth as the band works on a new album. Barren Earth issued this update:

“Greetings Barren Earthlings! We would like to welcome and present Antti Myllynen as the new keyboardist of Barren Earth. He is a passionate and incredibly talented player who rocked with us on our recent European tour. He is also highly involved in perfecting the new songs, and his creativity is bringing the upcoming album to previously unexplored musical territory on the Barren Earthscape. A dream scenario for us! At the same time, we would like to thank Kasper Mårtenson for his amazing contribution to Barren Earth and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Mårtenson issued this statement about the situation: “Dear fans of Barren Earth, It is with sadness that I have the following announcement to make. After eight years, sixty-four gigs, three albums and one EP with Barren Earth I have decided to leave the band. At this moment I feel, and actually have been feeling for quite a while, that with Barren Earth I have achieved what I was hoping to achieve back when the band started. I don’t believe that the band could continue to fulfill my musical interests, and I’ll be focusing on gentler stuff in the future.

“There is no ill will whatsoever involved in this. I have had a helluva good time in Barren Earth, have many great memories to cherish, and we remain friends. And this is not to say I won’t be playing with Oppu, Marko, Sami, Janne and Jón ever again in one context or another. But as it stands right now, I’m off.”

Barren Earth will continue working on the new album to follow 2015’s “On Lonely Towers,” which will be immortalized this spring in V. Santura’s Woodshed Studios.

Lyric Video For First Single “Rise And Fall” Available From The Unity

German melodic metal act The Unity – formed by Gamma Ray members Michael Ehre (drums) and Henjo Richter (guitars) – issued a lyric video for the first single “Rise And Fall.” The song will be featured on the band’s debut self titled album coming May 5th via SPV/Steamhammer Records.

The band also features vocalist Gianba Manenti (Love.Might.Kill), guitarist Stef E, bassist Jogi Sweers (Love.Might.Kill) and keyboardist Sascha Onnen (Love.Might.Kill).

“During many gigs and countless hours in the rehearsal room, Michael and I discovered that we are on the same wavelength, on a personal as well as on a musical level. So we came up with the idea of focusing that part of our creativity that goes beyond Gamma Ray in another band,” Richter explains.

Michael Ehré adds: “Our artistic ideas are on the one hand so similar that we arrive at a common denominator most of the time and on the other hand they’re different enough to ensure a diverse album that doesn’t sound boring for a second. Particularly as this band consists of six first-rate songwriters.”

Every note of the debut album oozes the great creative potential of all band members: powerful numbers such as the fast and tough “Rise And Fall” and the grooving “No More Lies” with its dynamic guitar riff and melodious chorus are just as symptomatic for the group’s unbridled energy as the slow, doom-laden “God Of Temptation,” which features a latent Black Sabbath flair thanks to its distinctive guitar hook.

More information on the album is expected soon. Check our “Rise And Fall” here:

Necrophobic Announces Band Lineup Changes

Blackened death metal group Necrophobic just issued this announcement about lineup changes within the band:

“Let’s start this new year with welcoming the two savages Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck back to the band. From today, they will handle the guitars, a part that has been single handed in the recent years. Why is this happening now? What happened to Fredrik?

“The last couple of years, Fredrik has been handling all the guitar parts as a single guitarist. He is a great guitar player, but he can’t play two guitars live and to have two guitarists is an important part of our sound – especially live. The music is written for two guitars. It has been so in the past and it’s still so today. Necrophobic has already started to write new music and plan to record a long awaited new album during the end of 2017.”

Joakim Sterner comments: “Lately, I have also come to realize that me and Fredrik are too far from each other on the musical side. Our mindset and our musical roots are too different. Necrophobic is very special in that way that it has very strict, call it rules, on how music shall sound, and not to sound, so with that in mind, along with that one guitar player was ‘missing’ live, I slowly started to think of this solution – to let Fredrik go. It’s always hard to tell a person to go, especially since we have always got along very well on the personal basis, he’s a great guy, but I had to set the band, and what’s best for the band, in first place. There’s no hard feelings between us. At least not from my side.

“Since some time back, a new born relationship started with my old friends, and former band mates, Sebastian and Johan, and that made this line-up change into reality. Sebastian was part of this band for 15 years and Johan for 10 years, so I’m really excited to have them back in the band again and I’m looking forward to what we will accomplish together, both live and on the song writing terms.”

Sebastian Ramstedt adds: “It’s a great honour to be back! It feels like coming home. Necrophobic has, by far, been the band where I can let my creativity flow the most. Joakim’s vision and my way of writing songs has always fit together naturally. The funny thing is that me and Johan never really quit Necrophobic. After years of working closely together we, in the beginning of 2011, said that we needed a break, but it became longer than we expected. I do respect Fredrik’s work in this band. He is a fantastic guitar player and his work with Necrophobic, both as a guitar player and a producer, will not pass unnoticed. The time for a return is now and we will unite in forces stronger than ever.

Johan Bergebäck had this to say: “The time has come for me to re-unite with the mighty force of Necrophobic. Together we will bring forth the black flag and reclaim our position as a great live act. Join us when we venture into the eternal fire. See you out there.”

Machinae Supremacy Reveals New Album “Into The Night World”

There’s a big difference between video game-inspired metal and actual “video game metal.” Machinae Supremacy proves that difference, owning the title with an 8-bit power metal onslaught that sounds like it could have been the symphonic soundtrack to your favorite 80’s Nintendo game.

After several independent releases and following with five albums released through international metal label Spinefarm Records, Machinae Supremacy has taken matters back into the band’s own hands with upcoming new album, “Into The Night World,” hitting stores on December 16th, 2016.

The album is coming via Machinae Supremacy’s own Hubnester Records, in collaboration with Swedish music company BD Pop. Pre-orders will be available via iTunes soon. Vocalist Robert Stjärnström states:

“Going back to being independent has truly sparked our creativity and energized us in the most amazing way. Into The Night World is in some ways more simplistic than our last album, but somehow it manages to be both more playful and more sophisticated. There is still a story, but all of that is encapsulated in pure, straight-forward songs, each with its own separate, parallel meaning and purpose.”

2. Into The Night World
3. Twe27ySeven
4. Remember Me
5. Space Boat
6. Stars Had To Die So That You Could Live
