Overoth Posts “The Keeper” Music Video

Irish death dealers Overoth recently revealed details for the follow-up to the band’s debut album, “Kingdom Of Shadows.”

With no less than ten tracks and over 40 minutes of extreme metal laden with orchestration, and artwork from none other than Will Simpson (Game Of Thrones, DC Comics), the quartet’s forthcoming opus will be titled “The Forgotten Tome” and is set for release on September 22nd, 2017 via Hostile Media.

Today the band unveils a first song and video culled from the album. Check out “The Keeper” below. Vocalist Andy Ennis comments:

“This song was written in the realms of dark fantasy and it was that essence that we wanted to capture on camera. It’s the story of a prisoner and his torturer… more a glimpse into this story as it leaves more questions than answers. The detainee awakens into what appears to be a nightmare. He is chained to the walls in a dank stone cell and has no memory of how he came to be there. It has all the sights, smells and sounds of a torture chamber. Any thoughts of escape, of home are crushed when he meets his nemesis, ‘The Keeper’.”

New Album “The Forgotten Tome” Announced By Overoth

Irish extreme metal horde Overoth today revealed long awaited details for the follow up to the debut, “Kingdom Of Shadows.” With no less than ten tracks and over 40 minutes of extreme metal laden with orchestration, and artwork from none other than Will Simpson (Game Of Thrones, DC Comics), the quartet’s forthcoming grand opus entitled “The Forgotten Tome” is set for release on September 22nd via Hostile Media. The album will be available as a standard CD, limited edition heavyweight vinyl and as a digital download. Album pre-orders and bundle deals are available over here.

The band commented: “We’ve been working on this album for what seems like an aeon, but finally we’re pleased to announce that our hard work and determination for perfection has come to a close. We actually tracked the drums, guitars and vocals for this album around two years ago, and we had planned to add some subtle orchestration as we had done in our debut ‘Kingdom Of Shadows’… however… when Dan (guitars) got started, the songs yearned for much more than we had anticipated. It would be further months of writing, from violins to piano, to the use of ancient instruments like the duduk and ney flute and then back and forwards with mixing… it would appear mixing twenty instruments isn’t all that easy! We also had a grand vision for the artwork and working with a talent such as Will Simpson was a great experience, he really did bring our vision to life. The artwork is a story in itself, with multiple pieces all intertwined. There is more than what the cover art depicts, but we’ll reveal all that at some point in the very near future. Finally, ‘The Forgotten Tome’ is complete and we are set to unleash the beast into the world this September.

“Lyrically, for the most part this collection of tales at a first glance would appear fantasy based, with fables of war and magic, good and evil, but actually there is a more human narrative underlying each song. We have our own interpretation of these stories, and we hope that people can find it or come up with some other moral of their own.”

The band recorded “The Forgotten Tome” at Sonic Forge in Wales with producers Joe Thompson and Mike Hourihan at the helm. The track listing is:

1. Opus Obscura
2. Sigil Of The Empty Throne
3. Winter Of Iniquity
4. The Keeper
5. God Of Delusion
6. The Forgotten Tome
7. Leviathan Swallowed The Sun
8. Mar The Gates
9. Harbinger Of The End Times

Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine Blames President Barack Obama For Batman V Superman Reception

Megadeth frontman and noted conspiracy theorist, Dave Mustaine has once again taken to the internet to give his ever concise and insightful political opinion. This time however, the veteran thrasher turns to the world of movies and the recent blockbuster, “Batman V Superman.”

The movie has been on the receiving end of some very harsh reviews from critics and many moviegoers, save for fans of DC Comics, who seem convinced that Marvel paid off all film reviewers because it’s “just a fun superhero movie,” whilst simultaneously criticizing the public for not liking it because it was “too intelligent and philosophical” for them. Mustaine however, is as usual, convinced he’s got the true answer.

“There’s been much made of the reaction to visionary genius Zack Snyder’s latest movie, with many placing the blame on Marvel and Disney. While I don’t think they’re completely innocent, we the American people must wake up and realise that our own so called President, Barack Obama is behind it! It may seem a strenuous claim but look closer at his name and you’ll notice that there’s no D there. No D = No D.C! Obama is trying to destroy the American icon that is Superman by trying to get everyone to hate the character’s movie, just as he hates America! Mark my words, it won’t be long until critics are bashing the Statue of Liberty, bald eagles and Wal-Mart too!”

Alex Jones, Ted Nugent, Donald Trump and Kid Rock could not be reached for comment, but did all like his post on Facebook.

Toney Carey To Guest On Rainbow Cover With A Sound Of Thunder

Tony Carey (Rainbow, Planet P Project) has recorded keyboards on A Sound of Thunder’s cover of Rainbow classic “Death Alley Driver.” The track is exclusively available via A Sound of Thunder’s current Kickstarter campaign which exploded through its original goal in 21 hours and which runs through August 17th (make your pledge here). A preview of the track can be heard streaming in the player below.

Despite an imposing catalog as a solo artist and with his own Planet P Project, among metal-heads Tony Carey is best known as part of the definitive lineup of Rainbow. Along with Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, and Jimmy Bain, Carey performed on the seminal “Rising” and “On Stage” albums. Carey’s hair-raising synthesizer notes on “Tarot Woman” and haunting Mellotron chords on “Stargazer” are just some of his highlights on “Rising”, an archetypal cornerstone album of melodic and power metal.

“This is a very cool cover of a very cool song, by a very cool band. So that’s all cool…” said Carey. “As far as my part goes, I threw down some old-school Hammond and played a much-too-fast solo bit on a Minimoog (remember those?) and woke up on the Sunset Strip in pre-Apocalypse 1976… lots of fun, and not something I do very often. Hollywood Swingin’! Thanks for having me.”

A Sound of Thunder guitarist Josh Schwartz added: “Tony is an immensely accomplished musician and producer and I can’t overstate how honored I am to have him on our recording. His work with Rainbow only scratches the surface of his many talents. Fans will know that Tony didn’t play on the original version of ‘Death Alley’. By adding wall-to-wall Hammond organ and his own personal style, Tony has warmed up the song and given it a kick in the pants and a very cool ’70s vibe not present on the original.”

A Sound of Thunder recently announced its new album “Tales from the Deadside,” the full-length concept album based on Valiant Entertainment’s Shadowman comic book series. The album was recorded at Assembly Line Studios with RIAA-platinum awarded producer Kevin ‘131’ Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). “Tales from the Deadside” is set for release on September 25th.

“The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world inspired us to create what we believe is our best album to date,” said A SOUND OF THUNDER guitarist Josh Schwartz. “We let the story lead us to places our music has never been before, combining all the elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found in the comics. Of course everything has gone through our own unique Thunderous filter, and all the familiar ASOT elements will be there. Shadowman’s harrowing journey demanded no less!”

The track listing for the album is:

1. Children of the Dark
2. Sandria (Carry On)
3. Can’t Hold Back
4. Deadside
5. Tower of Souls
6. Losing Control (The Unquiet Shadow)
7. Punk Mambo
8. Alyssa (Life in Shadows)
9. Tremble
10. End Times

Details On New Album “Tales From The Deadside” Released By A Sound Of Thunder, Crowdfunding Campaign Launched

D.C. area metal act A Sound of Thunder unveiled details on the upcoming new album “Tales From the Deadside” – along with the crowdfunding campaign links. The band has been one of the most successful crowdfunding acts, having blown away goals for the previous releases “Time’s Arrow” (2013) (reviewed here) and “The Lessor Key Of Solomon” (2014) (reviewed here). At press time, the band has already accumulated over 80% of its goal and the link is less than 24 hours old.

“Tales From the Deadside” was once again recorded at Assembly Line Studios with RIAA platinum-awarded producer Kevin ‘131’ Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). The album tells the story of Shadowman, one of the flagship characters of Valiant Entertainment’s comic book universe. The album is set for release on September 25th.

At the 2013 Baltimore Comic-Con, the band approached comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment with a crazy idea: a heavy metal album about Shadowman. And when they say “approached,” the band members mean they literally walked up to the Valiant booth with no warning, put a copy of “Lessor Key of Solomon” on the table and said “we’re Valiant fans, and we’d like to make some music about your character!” Hence, “Tales from the Deadside” was born.

The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world was the inspiration for what the band calls the “best album to date.” The story lead A Sound of Thunder to places the music hasn’t been before, combining elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found within the comics. Of course, all of the familiar ASOT elements will be there. The Shadowman’s harrowing journey demanded no less!

The band commented: “We kept this exciting news under wraps through 2013 and 2014 as we recorded the album in secret. The entire album was written in a blur of excitement and inspiration. The recording process on the other hand began immediately following the recording of our last album and was the longest and most grueling of any album we’ve made. If you haven’t seen much of us in the past year, or noticed an unhealthy uptick in our coffee consumption, now you know why! ‘Tales from the Deadside’ was created with the total dedication of the entire band and with absolutely no corners cut.”

If you want to jump on board as a backer in the band’s crowdfunding campaign, complete with perks that stack the higher your pledge is – head on over to this location.

The track listing for “Tales From the Deadside” is:

1. Children of the Dark
2. Sandria (Carry On)
3. Can’t Hold Back
4. Deadside
5. Tower of Souls
6. Losing Control (The Unquiet Shadow)
7. Punk Mambo

Tobias Sammet Comes Clean On “Space Police” Prank, Reveals Actual Album Details

Tobias Sammet, singer/songwriter for German power metal act Edguy, has revealed that his near six month twitter campaign for the band’s new album “Space Police – Defenders of the Crown” was actually part of an elaborate April Fool’s prank. By utilizing a marketing strategy filled with song clips, sarcasm and wit, Sammet was able to boost pre-sales for the band’s album by 800%, most of which are angry fans desiring to obtain the album that they are doomed to despise.

Sammet revealed all on a Twitter post today: “APRIL FOOLS DAY…there is no ‘SPACE POLICE'”

The new album is actually entitled “The Joke Is On You!” and is the follow up to the 2011 release “Age of the Joker,” but will be a concept album about DC Comics’ most famous villian. Sammet explained the marketing direction: “With ‘Age,’ I received a lot of flak from fans and press even though the album sold fairly well. I decided I would take a different approach. I brought in artists and label representatives and told them my vision. What we needed was to poke fun at the band’s history and come up with a wildly inventive cartoon world set in space and then proclaim it to be the greatest power metal album of all time. It worked because pre-sales for what is now ‘The Joke’s On You’ went through the roof – mostly because those fans with the most complaints were curious to prove me wrong.”

The album is still set for an April 18th release, but the actual song titles are:

1. Mirthless Grin
2. Thieving Trickster
3. Defenders Of The Clown Prince Of Crime
4. Gotham’s Finest
5. The Bat Must Be Destroyed
6. The Life And Times Of ‘Dear Old Jack’
7. Martha Wayne Is A Whore
8. Born Of Red Hood
9. Harle(y)quin
10. The Only Good Bat Is A Dead One

Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan To Direct “Officer Downe”

“Officer Downe,” the original graphic novel created by Joe Casey (Man of Action) and artist Chris Burnham, is getting the feature film treatment with Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan set to direct the Casey-penned script.

The Man of Action/Image Comics title “Officer Downe” details the story of a brutal supercop who continually dies in the line of duty, only to be resurrected by his superiors and sent back onto the streets each and every time.

Skip Williamson (producer, Underworld, Crank) and Mark Neveldine (director, Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) will produce the feature along with Casey, Man of Action. Slipknot manager Cory Brennan exec produces.

Crahan, co-founder of Slipknot, directs many of the band’s music videos and makes his feature directorial debut with “Officer Downe.” Founded by comic book creators, many Man of Action titles are being turned into features, including The Great Unknown, and television series, including Casey’s Disco Destroyer.

“I make comics because I love them, not to be back-door movie pitches” says Casey, “but this turned out to be a unique opportunity to go deeper and explore the characters in ways our printed page count prevented.”

Confirming the film adaptation requires “more over-the-top set pieces to illustrate how incredibly chewed up and broken Officer Downe gets on the job, this makes someone with Crahan’s eye the perfect, twisted match for this material,” says Casey.

“We feel like the team of Clown, Joe, Skip and myself will really have a great opportunity to make a low budget, visceral, exciting franchise that we can bring to all markets and platforms,” says Neveldine, “this kind of insanity has worldwide appeal and social media will be a big part in how we attack it.”
