Wildspeaker Posts New Song “Cinders”

Dallas-based blackened crust band Wildspeaker will release upcoming album, “Spreading Adder,” on June 23rd via Prosthetic Records. The blistering 11 track album offers a non-stop grind of driving riffs and thick, weighty atmosphere.

Thematically and lyrically, “Spreading Adder” focuses on the resilience of nature and downfall of human civilization. Check out new track “Cinders” below.

Vocalist Natalie Kahan says, “‘Cinders’ is about the anxiety and unease of changing states. Ultimately, we are still able to burn after the chaos around us cools. The song starts out pummeling fast then becomes punishing and slow. There are a lot of dark layers and tension to ‘Cinders’ that’ll make you clench your teeth.”

Wildspeaker consists of Kahan, guitarists Nelson Favela and Zak Pitts, bassist Garry Brents (Cara Neir), and drummer Ricky Rivera. Self-produced in Brents’ home studio, Spreading Adder will be released on LP, CD and all digital formats. Pre-orders are online here.

David Ellefson Opening Coffee Shop / EMP Label Store

Ellefson Coffee Co., the boutique coffee brand of Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, will open its first brick and mortar shop next week in David’s hometown of Jackson, MN.

In addition to serving a variety of custom blends of Ellefson Coffee Co. brands, including Roast In Peace, She Wolf, Kenya Thrash, and Urban Legend, the shop will serve as a retail outlet for Ellefson Coffee products and memorabilia as well as music from EMP Label Group.

The store will also serve as a “Museum of Deth” featuring permanently displayed artifacts and memorabilia from Ellefson’s personal collection. After teaming up with local Jackson Coffee shop Coffee Choices and owner Susan Reiter for the Urban Legend blend, David’s ECC (and EMP) partner Thom Hazaert suggested taking the partnership farther.

“One day Susan and I had a conversation about the idea of sort of re-branding Coffee Choices into something more aligned with the ECC brand, and us coming in as partners,” says Hazaert. “I pitched the idea to David, we had already discussed the idea of opening a brick and mortar outlet maybe in Phoenix, and we all loved the idea, being David’s hometown, and Susan’s amazing history in Jackson, and her experience running Coffee Choices.”

Adds Ellefson, “I’ve been blessed to travel the world year after year as a musician but my roots have always stayed in Jackson, MN. So, it’s a true honor for our coffee brand to have a retail shop on the main street USA I grew up on, and to serve the very community I was born and raised in. Aside from some great coffee and a fun Rock N’ Roll atmosphere, our store is a go-to destination for coffee that also tells my story of heavy metal and global music history. I look forward to seeing you there!”

The first day of business officially as Ellefson Coffee Co. will be Monday, January 10th, with a grand opening coming later in the Spring. You can pay ECC a visit at 404 Second St, Jackson, MN, 56143.

Periphery Releasing “Flatline” Coffee

Periphery, which released fifth album “Periphery III: Select Difficulty” in July (reviewed here), have partnered with DC-based Vigilante Coffee Company for a special limited edition coffee, dubbed “Flatline.”

“Being the coffee junkies that we are, the band and I jumped at the opportunity to develop and release our own branded coffee with Vigilante, who kept us over-caffeinated for the Periphery III recoding sessions,” explains guitar player Mark Holcomb.

He goes on to say, “When we saw what Vigilante founder Chris Vigilante was doing and tasted the coffee they were brewing, we were floored; it was easily the best coffee I had tried in my years of living in D.C., and the band made it our go-to coffee spot. This past winter, Chris invited us into the shop for a lengthy tasting where we sampled over a dozen coffees and picked what would become ‘Flatline’ coffee. Aside from being excited to release such a great coffee, we’re also proud to say that a portion of the proceeds from sales of this coffee are going directly to Ecuador’s earthquake emergency relief for the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Ecuador in April 2016. “

Bags of “Flatline” coffee are available now via Periphery’s webstore. The coffee is described as featuring chocolate notes and a lasting mouthfeel. As it cools, its creaminess is almost chewy, with delicate earthy and toasty notes.

The beans come from the Rio Intag valley of Ecuador, which, while spared a direct impact from the April earthquake, the coastal areas of the country have been deeply affected. A portion of all sales will be directed to the Catholic Relief Services, earmarked for Ecuador Earthquake Relief.

“The motivation behind this collaboration was simply to share something cool with the fans of Periphery and make a positive impact on the coffee world,” said Vigilante Coffee Company. “The rock stars of this coffee are the farmers and we’re grateful to share their passion for growing great coffee with the passionate fans of Periphery and the passionate coffee lovers of Vigilante Coffee.”

Shai Hulud plot US and Canadian dates beginning May 28

– May 3rd, 2016 –

Shai Hulud are currently in Europe in support of their Sincerely Hated EP and most recent full length, Reach Beyond the Sun. Following their return to the US, they will immediately embark on a brief run of the east coast, with a few stops in Canada. Main man Matt Fox explains in his quote below.

Hello friends,
Here are a coupla handfuls of summer dates in the US and Canada, followed by 4 dates in Japan with our dear friends in Endzweck. See youse there? Excellent. We’re looking forward to it.

Very Mean Pete of Remembering Never / xBishopx will be fronting us because Henry Rollins has called in sick. It happens.

If there are any more shows this year, they will be sporadic and most likely in unlikely places so come rage while you can. The rest of the year will be taken off from playing live for songwriting so we can attempt to cut our usual time in-between full length albums by one full year! Exciting, ain’t it? We think so, too.

Love. Respect. Hate. Piss. Moan.

Sincerely Hated,
Your friendly neighborhood Shai Hulud.

Details On New Album “Tales From The Deadside” Released By A Sound Of Thunder, Crowdfunding Campaign Launched

D.C. area metal act A Sound of Thunder unveiled details on the upcoming new album “Tales From the Deadside” – along with the crowdfunding campaign links. The band has been one of the most successful crowdfunding acts, having blown away goals for the previous releases “Time’s Arrow” (2013) (reviewed here) and “The Lessor Key Of Solomon” (2014) (reviewed here). At press time, the band has already accumulated over 80% of its goal and the link is less than 24 hours old.

“Tales From the Deadside” was once again recorded at Assembly Line Studios with RIAA platinum-awarded producer Kevin ‘131’ Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). The album tells the story of Shadowman, one of the flagship characters of Valiant Entertainment’s comic book universe. The album is set for release on September 25th.

At the 2013 Baltimore Comic-Con, the band approached comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment with a crazy idea: a heavy metal album about Shadowman. And when they say “approached,” the band members mean they literally walked up to the Valiant booth with no warning, put a copy of “Lessor Key of Solomon” on the table and said “we’re Valiant fans, and we’d like to make some music about your character!” Hence, “Tales from the Deadside” was born.

The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world was the inspiration for what the band calls the “best album to date.” The story lead A Sound of Thunder to places the music hasn’t been before, combining elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found within the comics. Of course, all of the familiar ASOT elements will be there. The Shadowman’s harrowing journey demanded no less!

The band commented: “We kept this exciting news under wraps through 2013 and 2014 as we recorded the album in secret. The entire album was written in a blur of excitement and inspiration. The recording process on the other hand began immediately following the recording of our last album and was the longest and most grueling of any album we’ve made. If you haven’t seen much of us in the past year, or noticed an unhealthy uptick in our coffee consumption, now you know why! ‘Tales from the Deadside’ was created with the total dedication of the entire band and with absolutely no corners cut.”

If you want to jump on board as a backer in the band’s crowdfunding campaign, complete with perks that stack the higher your pledge is – head on over to this location.

The track listing for “Tales From the Deadside” is:

1. Children of the Dark
2. Sandria (Carry On)
3. Can’t Hold Back
4. Deadside
5. Tower of Souls
6. Losing Control (The Unquiet Shadow)
7. Punk Mambo
8. Alyssa (Life in Shadows)

Power Streaming New Track “Cageless”

Twelve Gauge Records presents the July 10th release of the new Power EP “Heavy Muscle.” Today you can also check out the new single “Cageless” below, courtesy of PunkNews.org. Twelve Gauge Records also comments:

“From Bremerton, Washington, a small Navy town right across the sound from Seattle, Power is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most legit hardcore punk bands of today. Sincerity counts in hardcore, and Power has it in spades. When frontman Evan Somerhiser belts out ‘I don’t have the patience to sit / Can’t focus for shit’ on ‘Cageless,’ he sings it like he means it. When he screams ‘If I owe you money when I die, you can suck my dick / Unless you were a friend then just hit up my fucking kids,’ on the EP’s opener, ‘$uck It,’ there is no doubt this is his actual last will and testament.

“As negative as some of these lyrics sound, the overriding Power vibe is one of live-for-now reckless abandon. The cover photo is not staged – that’s Somerhiser at a backyard party in Bremerton. The Power boys have been living the life for years. All best friends since their early teens, they ran DIY venue Tiki House in Bremerton for a decade, hosting scores of touring bands along the way.

“Power couples its warts-and-all, punk-as-heck realness with a propensity for swinging and strutting in almost a ’70s rock fashion. The band is crisp and tight; not only can it rage, it can glide through shuffles and tempo shifts and even a 5/4 riff. They have been known to cover Diamond Head and Black Sabbath. Power is not unlike Black Flag in this way – on one hand, a cathartic expression of the most painful realities, on the other hand, a worship of riffs and sweet grooves.

“Above all, Power is a sick hardcore punk band that might make a person want to jump off a high thing just to make tonight the best night ever.”

The “Heavy Muscle” EP was recorded and mixed by Phil Jones at The Dangler in Seattle, and mastered by Chris Mathews, Jr. The EP follows 2013 full-length “Bremerton Zoo” and 2011 EP “Death Haunts,” both also released on Twelve Gauge Records. The track listing is:

1. $uck It
2. Cageless
3. L.O.S. (Life of Spite)
4. Slow Train Coming
5. Shepherds and Sheep
6. When It’s Time

Having played recent shows with Cro-Mags, Harm’s Way, Code Orange, Sabertooth Zombie, and Iron Lung, Power hits the road in June for this upcoming West Coast tour:

The Paramedic Headed Out On U.S. Tour Dates

Hot on the heels of new album “Diary Of My Demons,” The Paramedic will hit the road with Sycamour (Hopeless Records) in November and Along Came A Spider (Standby Records) in December. All dates are listed below.

The band also just announced the addition of Chris Hollywood (formerly of Black Veil Brides) on guitar. This move has been years in the making as guitarist Jake Nolan commented, “Chris and I grew up and learned how to play guitar together. We know each other inside and out as musicians and people. We were in a shitty punk band growing up and ended up parting ways for some reason. Him and Andy got BVB going and I got The Paramedic going. When we wrote Diary Of My Demons, I put in so much guitar work without even thinking about who was going to play the extra guitar parts. When it came down to it and we had to play the songs live, I knew there was only one person I had to have backing me up. So I gave him a call. I’m happy to be back on stage with him.”

Chris also checked in to say, “I’m so excited to re-join The Paramedic after being out in LA for several years with my old band. ‘Diary Of My Demons’ is a powerful and emotional record that I immediately fell in love with. I grew up with Jake from an early age and have always believed in his talent and I’m pumped to be able to share the stage with him and the rest of the guys in the band.”
