THEORIES: New Full-Length From Pacific Northwest Death Grind Miscreants Streaming In Full At Invisible Oranges

– March 19th, 2015 –

Regression To See North American Release Next Week

Today Pacific Northwest death grind miscreants, THEORIES, offer up the molten fruitage of their impending Regression full-length in its scathing entirety via Invisible Oranges.

Captured at The Red Room and The Boiler Room with producer/engineer Derek Moree (The Sword, Pelican, Minus The Bear et al) with mixing and mastering conducted by Visceral Sound’s Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Regression flaunts ten vehement tracks of jagged, confrontational, crust-infused death grind centered on the wanton truths of social discontent, economic uncertainty, environmental catastrophes, and the inevitable cycle of decay.

Elaborates drummer Joe Axler of THEORIES‘ upcoming release, “We are very fucking stoked to unleash this record onto all of y’all and feel like at this time, in 2015, with a lot of metal being released in genres that we enjoy but don’t play, we wanted to make sure to make as pissed off a record as we could. Due to what seems like a lack of grind and death grind bands around right now, we hope this will make its mark and bring something to the table in the genre/scene we fit into.

Witness Regression in all its maniacal glory at THIS LOCATION.

In other THEORIES-related developments, on Saturday March 21st, 2015, the band will be hosting KISW 99.9 Metal Shop. Stream it live at THIS LOCATION from 10:00pm – 2:00am PST. Additionally, THEORIES is honored to level the stage of the Showbox in Seattle March 31st as area openers for the mighty Decibel Tour. THEORIES: New Lyric Video From Seattle Death Grind Division Now Playing At No Clean Singing

– March 11th, 2015 –

In-Studio Session To Air On KEXP This Weekend + Record Release Show Announced And More

Today, the crypt-keepers at No Clean Singing hurl forth a brand new lyric video for “Burnt Concrete,” from Seattle death grind division, THEORIES. The scathing new hymn comes by way of the band’s forthcoming new full-length, Regression, set for final descent in less than two weeks via Metal Blade Records.

Boasting ten vehement tracks of grisly, confrontational, crust-infused death grind, Regression is the sound of social discontent, economic uncertainty, environmental catastrophes, and the inevitable cycle of decay. Elaborates the band of opening rager, “Burnt Concrete,” “Lyrically this song represents the theme of the record very well, the current, very fast decline and beginning to the end of society, civilization and our all-around existence. But as of recent, our world has been going downhill for a long time now but as of recently, the downward spiral has been regressing at a hyperspeed rate. To sum it up, we’re all fucked and there’s no fixing anything now. Musically, this song represents the feel of the record as well: technical death grind. Instead of going in depth describing what it sounds like and coming up with catchy ‘sub genre’ phrases, just give it a listen and let the music speak for itself.

Observes No Clean Singing: “If you’re not pissed off, you shouldn’t be playing grind, and ‘Burnt Concrete’ is very pissed-off metal. But at the same time it’s got some melodic hooks and punishing rhythms that give the song character, beyond the pure adrenaline rush that it delivers.

Feel (and read) the wrath of THEORIES‘ “Burnt Concrete” lyric video at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it you can still witness the sonic oppressions of “Shame,” still streaming at Noisey HERE.

In related THEORIES news, the band’s in-studio performance on KEXP (90.3 FM in Seattle streaming worldwide at KEXP.ORG) will air this Sunday, March 15th, 2015 at 12:00am PST as part of KEXP’s Seek And Destroy segment. Remind yourself to tune in by RSVPing to the event page HERE. That following weekend, on Saturday March 21st, 2015, the band will be hosting KISW 99.9 Metal Shop on Saturday March 21st. THEORIES has been propagating the seeds of bleak, dark, and terminally infuriated grind metal in the Pacific Northwest since their 2011 inception. The band, comprised of current and former members of Samothrace, Skarp, and Book Of Black Earth among others, released their debut EP that same year. Their livecampaign followed shortly thereafter, and have since terrorized the stages through the US on nearly a dozen tours and to festivals including Maryland Death Fest, Chaos in Tejas, Southwest Terror Fest, and their most recent trek with new label mates, Cattle Decapitation.

Regression was tracked at The Red Room and The Boiler Room with producer/engineer Derek Moree (The Sword, Pelican, Minus The Bear et al) with mixing and mastering conducted by Visceral Sound’s Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed) and will be available for public ingestion on March 24th, 2015 via Metal Blade Records. Preorder bundles are currently available at: http://www.metalblade.com/theories where you can also overload your earholes with the sounds of “Cycle Of Decay.”

“…And Just For Art” Book Cover Revealed, IndieGogo Campaign Launched For Physical Edition

Our very own Ramón ‘Oscuro’ Martos just unveiled the cover artwork for his upcoming revelatory book “…And Justice For Art: Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers.”

This one-of-a-kind collection of stories recounts all the particulars behind the making of artwork as iconic as Slayer’s “Reign In Blood,” Morbid Angel’s “Blessed Are The Sick,” Metallica’s “And Justice For All,” Black Sabbath’s “13,” Death’s “Symbolic,” Carcass “Heartwork,” Cormorant’s “Dwellings,” Mayhem’s “Grand Declaration Of War,” Testament’s “Dark Roots Of Earth,” Opeth’s “Heritage” and many others.

These are told through 100 exclusive interviews with heavy music’s icons like Jeff Walker (Carcass), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Chris Adler (Lamb Of God), David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) and more. In addition, it features plenty of revealing commentaries by illustrators such as Michael Whelan, Eliran Kantor, Dan Seagrave, Joe Petagno, Arik Roper and Travis Smith, just to name a few.

“Working on the And Justice for Art book was an amazing experience,” comments illustrator Vertebrae33 — who has previously collaborated with artists like Slayer, Slash, and Soundgarden. “Ramon Oscuro Martos has an unbridled love of Metal art as well as a tremendous amount of passion and vision for his project. As an illustrator, there is nothing better than a vision realized and the satisfaction of the client. I am excited to see Ramon’s project come to fruition!”

Martos comments: “Today’s Metal scene is overflowed with illustrators and visual artists; however, just a few posses the ability to create distinctive images, rich in detail, colors, and conceptual depth… That’s the case with Vertebrae33. Since the very beginning he was able to understand that And Justice For Art’s cover needed to be iconic and conceptually related to both Metal and Arts. I believe this book will coherently provide fans with plenty of first-hand information regarding to the creation of many iconic Metal album covers. The artwork created by Vertebrae33 perfectly introduces the reader to that world where music and visuals become one.”

Martos is now running an Indiegogo campaign here to fund the printing and distribution of this book that, according to Morbid Angel’s frontman, David Vincent (who wrote the foreword), has all the potential to become “a historical document about the importance of metal album covers.”

Obituary’s drummer, Don Tardy declared, “I think this is an important book and will help to keep alive all these artworks.”

Cattle Decapitation’s infamous frontman, Travis Ryan, commented that the volume is “exactly what the music world needs to remind us all just how important album covers have been to all of us that grew up surrounding ourselves with physical media.”

Be sure to also check out Ramon’s first entry in his new column on look-alike album covers at this location.

Cleric Streaming Debut LP “Gratum Inferno”

A fairly brand new name to the genre, Dallas-born death metal entity Cleric will leave a memorable impression upon the scene soon enough, as a debut LP is approaching, confirmed for release on local independent label Tofu Carnage Records. The following press release was issued about the band:

“Formed by underground combatants from Kill the Client, Baring Teeth, and Tyrannosorceress, the members of Cleric are no stranger to all things brutal and visceral, and they fuse their old-school death metal aggressive tendencies here into a relentless attack. Recorded by Garry Brents (Kill The Client, Phobia, Noisear) and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (From Ashes Rise, Nails, Sleep), Cleric’s debut full-length LP, Gratum Inferno, boasts nearly a half-hour of grating, Stockholm-bred but Americanized death through seven hymns of debauchery, bizarre, haunting and horror-soundtrack elements permeating from deep within its hellish core.

“Not only designed to be experienced aurally, Gratum Inferno is for those who truly appreciate the aesthetic value of deluxe packaging and heavyweight color vinyl. The album is pressed on 200-gram, translucent yellow wax with blood red and milky clear splatter and features heavyweight spot-varnish printed jackets, gold foil-stamped inner-sleeve graphics, and was mastered at 45rpm for superior sound quality. This is an album that was truly meant for vinyl. The original and insane cover art was masterminded by Jason Barnett (Noothgrush, etc.). Gratum Inferno will see its proud release via Dallas’ Tofu Carnage Records — responsible for quality vinyl releases for Dead To A Dying World, Akkolyte, Unconscious Collective and Ecocide — in mid-September, with an official street date pending.

“Amped on releasing the crushing debut, Tofu Carnage set up preorders for the album early, and hooked up with Cvlt Nation to stream Gratum Inferno nearly two months before its proposed release. Uncage the audio and illustrative iniquity of Gratum Inferno for yourself right here.”

1. Gratum Inferno
2. Through the Starless Abyss
3. From Womb to Tomb
4. Satanic Dimensions
5. Into Death and Far Beyond
6. Left-Hand Wrath
7. Faith in Debauchery

Grindcore Outfit Flesh Parade Faces An Uncertain Future

For twenty-two years Flesh Parade has been the top, and one of the very few, grindcore bands in New Orleans, LA; a town known for its achingly slow and messy sludge bands. Their last release “Dirty Sweet” was long anticipated the world over and received critical-acclaim when it came out in 2011. No one could have guessed when they performed at the 2011 Maryland Death Fest that the band was heading for a possible disbandment a year later. Guitarist Rene Perez explains the peril, “Well, we spent a lot of time writing, arranging, practicing, recording, and playing shows in preparation for ‘Dirty Sweet.’ Once it came out, we continued to play as much as possible to help support it via local shows, fests, and the mini tour we did last July. Our original plans were to tour extensively in 2012. I was working on several shows, one would have been last September in NOLA, but are drummer’s [Todd Capiton] work schedule forced us to cancel the show. We tried doing another one before the end of 2011 but all of our schedules couldn’t line up to make it happen and of course the holidays were also tough to work around. Three of us have families and kids and the holidays are always first with the family and the band is second.”

The band kept persevering despite the difficulty in managing the band member’s schedules to keep playing live shows. However, it did not work out and booked shows had to be canceled to the dismay of hungry fans. “In the fall of 2011, I was working on some West Coast tours for early 2012 with Kill the Client, a show in Puerto Rico, and I was also speaking with some promoters overseas about doing a tour over there. When I began these discussions, everyone was on board, and once it was time to commit certain members could not. Also, our work schedules and personal schedules were lining up at all. This pretty much put a hold on any productivity with the band. Even scheduling a practice was becoming increasingly more difficult. Once 2012 began we had a couple of practices and things were looking to pick up and then that died down. We couldn’t get all four of us in the same room together due to our schedules again. We all live in different states so it makes it hard enough but we can all commit to a date and it’s almost impossible to get anything done.” Flesh Parade’s last show in New Orleans featured Jason Pilgrim on vocals instead of Scott Leger. Scott has been unable to attend practices because of personal issues.

Flesh Parade had a rented rehearsal space at the widely-used room rental building Fontainebleau Storage facility in New Orleans. Because of the slow productivity, they gave up the space, but Rene now has since bought a house in Texas where he has offered to provide a rehearsal space for the band, if the band decides to continue on and use it. “At this point everything with the band is still up in the air. I have a place for us to keep it going. But the scheduling portion and travel for our vocalist and drummer will have to work for them to make it happen.”

Two members of the band are ready to end Flesh Parade and make a new band in the same vein. “If Flesh Parade doesn’t continue, [bassist] Tony and I have discussed starting up something new and keeping it a grind project. I’ve been writing some new material in our new practice room so I’d like to use it for something will have to wait and see I guess.”

Lamb Of God Manager Larry Mazer Speaks To Czech Press

Czechoslovakian online newspaper Blesk.cz recently conducted an interview with Lamb Of God manager Larry Mazer, the following of which appeared in its newspaper today. This is the transcript of the interview, which we translated into English as best as we could. Read the full article here. This is what Larry Mazer has to say about the unknown plight of his client, Randy Blythe, as he continues his best to get him through this difficult time.

Blesk.cz: What is the current situation, when will Randy Blythe will be released?

Larry Mazer: I have no idea. The deposit was made on Tuesday morning. We tried to make it Monday, but it took longer than expected. Randy should have been released immediately.
His lawyer assured us on Saturday he’d be released soon. ‘You bring the money, you get released.’ I know in the US it would have happened.

Blesk.cz: How long will Randy be in jail?

Larry: They told me that it may take up to 20 days. The investigator may request more time for an investigation of the case.

Blesk.cz: What are the reactions of the other bandmembers to this?

Larry: Everyone is shocked. It’s absurd. Is it a bad joke. Randy sits in prison and he didn’t do anything. He’s innocent.

Blesk.cz: Did you know about the Czech fan dying after the concert two years ago?

Larry: We hadn’t been here for an entire two years. My data is unavailable, but I hadn’t heard from the family. We didn’t know a promoter. No answer.

Blesk.cz: When did you first learn about it?

Larry: Not until last Wednesday. The organizer of the concert at Klub Abaton told us that the Czech police contacted them three months after the boy died. I don’t get it, no one responded. The boy was in a coma and then died, and no-one said anything.

Blesk.cz: Czech police said they contacted the American side …

Larry: No one said anything to us. Do you think that I’d let the band to play in the Czech Republic if I had known this?

Blesk.cz: The police say that Randy pushed the fan off the stage…

Larry: There is a video of the concert, which shows someone jumping into the audience. But Randy didn’t push him, he pushed the guards.

Blesk.cz: Was it a member of Randy’s security detail?

Larry: You can see that the man fell to the ground, into the crowd. The fall is there.

Blesk.czt is normal that Lamb of God concerts are so wild?

Larry: It’s typical for rock concerts. People want to have fun. Lamb of God concerts are no different.
