Cipher System Posts Posts Fan Questions And Answers Online

Sweden’s Cipher System has posted the following series of fan questions and band answers online, which deal with the sound of the group and the new album “Communicate the Storms:”

“So finally…here comes all the answers of the Q&A! Sorry for the delay!

“Have you thought of making the Synth a little louder through out the song?

“Henric – that would happen if it fits the song. We are not afraid of using keys, but we are a metal band and we don’t want the keys to take over as a lead instrument.

“I’ve got the same question about guitars, in most songs they drown in synths

“Henric – when we mix the album we experiment With the levels. We might change how we mix for the next album a bit, but we wont change sound that much.

“Have you guys also though of using extended range guitars?

“Andreas: At the moment we use 6-stringed guitars only. To be honest, I get confused when there are more strings on a guitar. Personally I think that bands who after a while starts using different tunings or 8-stringed guitars tend to change there sound totally so that is something we will never do. We like our sound as it is.

“Are you guys able to live from your music, or if you all have another job?

“Henric – we all have daytime jobs. We would have to live on the streets if we didn’t, that is how much we earn from this band right now. Everyone expect music to be free nowadays, so it’s hard to make it happen.

“To karl how do u scream so good?

“Carl – Thanks, practice in other bands has made my voice better. And for the album CTS we had a band meeting about the tone/style I was suppose to deliver. I’m happy With the result, and the American deathtone that we wanted turned out fine in My point of view.

“What is the meaning behind the artwork of Central Tunnel Eight? If there even is one at all, haha.

“Henric – ‘Central Tunnel 8’ is a place / haven in your mind where you go to find bliss when you need it the most. The victim on the cover is beaten up pretty bad, so he is right now in Central Tunnel 8 to keep fighting for his life.

“In response to what Josh said, I’d like to hear longer songs with longer instrumental/synth passages. kind of like what Sybreed do. or maybe synth interludes between songs?

“Andreas: We made a bonus track on ‘Communicate…’ with only synth and guitar and the plan is to do the same thing or similar on the next album.

“Who has the worst gas in the band?

“Henric – I would say Johan (he eats a LOT of protein) or Karl? I don’t remember who gave us that awful smell at the last rehearsal, was it me?

“Can you give the presets to the guitar distortions?

“Andreas: We have a picture of the presets here on facebook. Check it out!

“Hey, to the whole band- How did you come up with the name Cipher System, and how do you all agree on a CD title, like Central Tunnel 8 or Communicate the Storms?

“Andreas: In both cases the album titles are based on a song that is seen as the title track of the album. The title in some way summarize the feeling or the concept of the whole album. Henric is the founder of the bandname, not everyone was entirely satisfied in the beginning but eventually it grew and all members accepted it. 🙂

“Your synth work is astounding. doesn’t drown out anything, in fact it makes those songs perfectly thick and melodic. LOVE IT Who writes the synth? everyone collectively?

“Andreas: The synth work is made by Johan and Peter. Usually Johan does the basics and then Peter puts his magic fingers into the process.”
