Cursed Moon Signs Record Deal With Hells Headbangers

Hells Headbangers is proud to announce the signing of Cursed Moon. The label issued this statement:

“A one-man entity hailing from the greater Los Angeles area, Cursed Moon is one of the most exciting newcomers the label has come across. Branding itself ‘deathwave,’ Cursed Moon uniquely combines classic goth-rock from the ’80s with early black metal sounds, weaving a witchy atmosphere whilst being grounded firmly in the grit of evil heavy metal. It’s a sound that’s immediately memorable and positively addicting – and not to mention one that will appeal to a wide variety of metalheads, punks, and other assorted freaks.”

“Well, Cursed Moon started last year (2015), when I began the writing process of it during late September,” explains mainman Sal “Hellraiser” Yanez. “I was pretty much just jamming on my guitar while I was listening to The Sisters of Mercy and I thought to myself, ‘This would actually be fun to play.’ So, just for fun, I wrote one song and I was really impressed on how it came out, so then I wrote second song and I also liked it. The style of music I was writing was different; it was something I haven’t heard of any band doing.”

Yanez goes on to say, “It was some sort of post-punk with an evil twist to it. It had band influences like Fields of the Nephilim, The Sisters of Mercy, and Christian Death mixed with Bathory, Celtic Frost, Amebix, King Diamond, etc. After that moment, I then decided to make it into a real music project and pursue it. That’s when the name Cursed Moon was born along with the unique style of subgenre in what I call ‘deathwave.’ After I had enough songs written, I wanted to go to a legit studio and record them and do them right so I can put out an album. I wrote and recorded all the instruments myself, since this was just a one-man music project. Now, thanks to Hells Headbangers for signing and doing an official album release and for also believing in the Cursed Moon vision, I am currently putting together a live lineup for shows/tours that’s almost complete. That is just the beginning in what’s to come…”

The first fruit of this union will be Cursed Moon’s self-titled debut album, which will be released by Hells Headbangers during the first quarter of 2017 on CD and vinyl formats. In the meantime, a four-song sampling of Cursed Moon’s unique deathwave can be heard below.

Sonic Medusa Releasing “The Sunset ShoundHouse Tapes”

Formed in 2009, LA group Sonic Medusa – featuring members of Goatsnake, The Obsessed, Hollywood Rose and Angus Khan – has already drawn comparisons with the likes of Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Alice Cooper and a whole host of other, celebrated groups of the era.

With debut EP “The Sunset SoundHouse Tapes” officially released this December on Ripple Music, the band digs its heavy heels in deep, integrating the powerful influence of late 70s/early 80s NWOBHM via twin guitar assaults and rhythms reminiscent of Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest and early Iron Maiden.

Brought out of semi-retirement by the lure of making music with Sonic Medusa, Greg Rogers joins fellow Goatsnake band mate Scott “The Low-End Lumberjack” Renner. Described by all he meets as a 6’4, walking wall of sound, Renner also served time in numerous outfits as bassist for sludge/doom band Sourvein and North Carolina post punkers Brickbat.

Leading the charge up front for the Californian quartet is new singer/guitarist Dirty D – former front man of the notorious LA punk rock band B-Movie Rats, and later, the pyrotechnic Angus Khan – and fellow guitarist, Steven Darrow. Darrow, who earned his spurs as a young Californian punk with The Decadents, Christian Death and Super Heroines went on to become bass player in the mid-80s for the Motörhead-meets-Nazareth inspired hard rock band Hollywood Rose… later known as Guns ‘N’ Roses.

With engineer David Schwerkolt at the board, “The Sunset SoundHouse Tapes” was recorded at Sunset Studios, Hollywood. The track listing is:

1. Medusa (4:01)
2. Goblin Suite (6:49)
3. Cold Wind (7:56)
4. Wolfs Prayer (7:01)

Atriarch Finishes New Album "Ritual Of Passing"

Portland, Oregon Atrirach has completed work on a new full-length album titled “Ritual Of Passing,” which is set for release on October 30th, 2012. Profound Lore Records comments:

“Following up the acclaimed ‘Forever The End’ debut from last year, Atriarch would slowly develop a strong distinct identity through an amalgamation of deathrock, classic ‘80s goth, doom and black metal respectively. An intriguing mix which would mirror the powerful aesthetic and vibe brought forth from such bands as Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Cure, Christian Death, The Gault, and Asunder.

“Through several years of trial, as the band would gradually develop and define their sound, ‘Ritual Of Passing’ (which also features a guest appearance by Jessica Way of Worm Ouroboros on the closing track) is the becoming result of this chaos-embracing culmination, the masterpiece the band have been threatening to create since their inception in 2009.

“A harrowing, religious sonic offering drenched and drowning in wall-of-sound-like atmosphere commanded by the sermon-like vocals of Lenny Smith. Bleak, haunting, oppressive, and violent ‘Ritual Of Passing’ will serve as one of the most intriguing and commanding albums of the year.”

The album’s track listing is:

1. Parasite
2. Prayer
3. Altars
4. Altruist
5. Offerings
6. Cursed
7. Outro (Lucifer speaks with Death)
