Tampa alternative news source Creative Loafing has reported that a Savatage reunion might be in the works for the fifteenth installment of ProgPower USA this year at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia. Jon Oliva’s Pain is set to headline the event on Saturday, September 13, 2014 performing the classic Savatage album “Streets” in its entirety, however, sources close to Savatage/T.S.O. guitarist Chris Caffery have revealed that he has recently made travel arrangements to appear at the event.
Additional sources have confirmed plane flights and hotel accommodations for Atlanta were also booked drummer Jeff Plate and bassist Johnny Lee Middleton. If the rumors are true, this would be mark a reunion of the “Poets & Madman” studio lineup.
When asked for a comment, Jon Oliva sent an email response stating the following: “Its not fucking happening. I’m tired of these rumors popping up every time I do a gig where I play a Savatage song. The rumors are bullshit.”
Despite the response, Caffery posted the following status on Facebook: “Something amazing is in the works…cannot speak about it yet, but trust me – you will know it when you hear it.”
Metal Underground.com attempted to confirm the rumors with ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston, who replied: “Look, Jon does what Jon does. He can play whatever the hell he wants, but I have absolutely no knowledge of any reunion, so just stop it.”
The rumored reports remain unconfirmed by any official source. As for ProgPower USA, the sold out event takes place from Wednesday, September 10th through Saturday, September 13th. The main festival (Friday-Saturday), will feature:
