Anthrax Guitarist Scott Ian To Lady Gaga: “Let Us Be Your Backing Band”

Scott Ian says that Anthrax “would love” to collaborate on music with pop superstar Lady Gaga…

In an interview with Duke TV’s Antoine De Montremy, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian states about Lady Gaga (see video below): “Yes, we would love to work with Lady Gaga. I think we put that out there a while ago. And then when we found out she was doing the Grammys with Metallica, I was, like, ‘Wow! It makes sense. They’re gonna be on a big TV show and do it together.’ And I actually thought she was great on it.

“I’ve said since the beginning, since the first time I ever heard her voice, I always thought, ‘Wow, I would really love to hear her sing on a rock record, metal record, whatever,'” he continues. “And then our drummer, Charlie Benante, ended up meeting her at a show and they became friends. And she knows all about Anthrax and Metallica and all these bands… whoever – name the band. She’s a metalhead. So that made it even cooler. The fact that, all right, she knows that world, she understands that world, and she can sing the shit out of this kind of music.”

“I don’t know what their plans are – if Metallica has more plans with Lady Gaga or if she has plans with Metallica – but we would certainly love to write a song together, or a whole album. Let us be your backing band. Let us be your backing band, Lady Gaga. We could make beautiful music together.”

Anthrax Premieres New Official Music Video “Monster At The End”

Anthrax premieres a new official music video entitled “Monster At The End”. Check it out below.

Laments drummer Charlie Benante the state of the music industry stating:

“I don’t think there is that real urgency to do a video in the way it once was. I mean, when you were doing a record, you were already picking like two or three songs that were going to be your videos. The video was basically gonna be this huge marketing tool that would shoot your record sales from ten copies to ten thousand copies. It’s not like that anymore, because the whole world has changed. The business model has changed completely. Basically, the floor has dropped out. There really is no other way of marketing your record like the old school way. Now you have to think of other ways to reach people. The problem with YouTube is it’s based on, you know…how do I put this…basically stealing. Basically, YouTube is taking things that already existed and not paying for it, yet profiting from it. I remember the days of early rap and they could throw as many samples of as many songs as they wanted to and no one stopped it until someone said, “Wait a minute. I’m not getting paid for the song that I created and you built a song around.” They stopped it. Now, the same thing that happened with that needs to happen with this. It needs to be policed and it needs to be stopped.

About the fact that bands can seemingly only make money by touring these days, Benante comments:

“…In the past we’d have time to kind of explore the city or country that we were in. Nowadays, I don’t really get the luxury to do that because I have to be at the venue to do a meet-and-greet and to do signings and to do this…to do that. It costs money to tour. You have to pay for a bus and so many other things that factor into it. At the end of a tour, you look at the spreadsheet, you see the columns and you’re like, Jesus Christ! What the fuck? It’s a hard business to be in. In the past it was hard, but now this business has almost stopped.”

Anthrax Streaming “A.I.R.” Drum-Cam Footage From Sunset Strip House Of Blues Final Metal Show

House Of Blues is streaming pro-shot drum-cam footage of Charlie Benante performing the song “A.I.R.” with Anthrax this past Wednesday, July 29 at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, California. Anthrax’s show was the final metal show at the Sunset Strip House Of Blues by the way.

Says Frank Bello: “Every show we’ve done at the Sunset House of Blues has been a party. Everyone who we’re friends with who’s not on tour shows up, either to jam or drink or just hang out. And I’ll really miss that. Sunset Boulevard has lost its last great place to play.”

Charlie Benante: “The memories that have been created will always live on for anyone who went to the HOB. I feel honored and privileged to have this last chance to blow the roof off of the HOB. The Strip will soon end up looking like a corporate strip mall, no memories there.”

Check out now the “A.I.R.” live drum-cam playthrough below.

Anthrax To Play Final Metal Show At Sunset Strip House Of Blues

The six-time Grammy nominated Anthrax will provide a head banging send-off for the iconic Sunset Strip House of Blues on Wednesday, July 29th.

The band will headline what will be the last metal show ever to play the HOB before it shuts down on August 7th to make way for a new hotel/housing/retail complex. Tickets go on sale today through Ticketmaster, the Live Nation app, and at the HOB Box Office. Log on to this location for more details.

“Every show we’ve done at the Sunset House of Blues has been a party,” said Anthrax’s Frank Bello. “Everyone who we’re friends with who’s not on tour shows up, either to jam or drink or just hang out. And I’ll really miss that. Sunset Boulevard has lost its last great place to play.”

Charlie Benante added, “The memories that have been created will always live on for anyone who went to the HOB. I feel honored and privileged to have this last chance to blow the roof off of the HOB. The Strip will soon end up looking like a corporate strip mall, no memories there.”

While the band is still putting together ideas for the show, there will likely be some cool surprises. “You never know what we’ll come up with,” laughed Bello.

Anthrax – Joey Belladonna, Scott Ian, Frank Bello, Charlie Benante, and Jon Donais – is currently in the final stages of recording a new album that is expected out in early 2016.

If you missed it, be sure to catch Scott Ian discussing what house in Game of Thrones he’d want to belong to here, and you can find details on the band’s newly released bourbon at this location.
