Ghost Wins Swedish Grammis Award In “Best Hard Rock / Metal” Category

After Megadeth took home the Best Metal Performance award at the 2017 U.S. Grammy ceremony, Ghost has won the Best Hard Rock / Metal category at the Swedish Grammis awards held Tuesday night in Stockholm. The nominated bands were as follows:

Amaranthe – “Maximalism”
Cult Of Luna & Julie Christmas – “Mariner”
Dark Tranquillity – “Atoma”
Ghost – “Popestar”
In Flames – “Battles”

In Flames commented via Facebook: “Congrats to Ghost for winning “Hard Rock/Metal Album of the Year”. Thanks for the nomination and good times, Grammis! #IFBattles17.”

Video of Papa Emeritus accepting the award can be seen below. Notably, he is the only member of the band to appear, fueling speculation the nameless ghouls are in for a reboot, either entirely changing out the lineup or perhaps simply changing the costumes and names for the next release.

Last year, Ghost also won the U.S. Grammy for Best Metal Performance.

Ancient VVisdom Posts New Album Track-By-Track Breakdown

“Sacrificial” is the latest full-length from occult death rock conjurors, Ancient VVisdom (read our review here).

Released last week via the Magic Bullet Records compound, “Sacrificial” was produced by founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin, and mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering.

In celebration of its release, Revolver is currently hosting an in-depth, track-by-track breakdown of the record as told by Opposition. In speaking of “Sacrifice,” Opposition elaborates, “Smooth soothing bass and drums lead the way with a Danzig-like intensity. The guitars drop in with vocals and the ceremony has begun. I call upon the bearer of light to come forth from the abyss and the power of the left hand path. There, in the mind of every human being, is the enlightening of all the ages, the ultimate sacrifice.”

Slayer Frontman Tom Araya Honoured In Chile

Slayer frontman Tom Araya was honoured last friday (June 3rd) in his birth place of Viña del Mar, Chile, where he received the key to the city. This is the first official recognition of Chile to Tom Araya, who left Chile at five years of age with his family for the US. You can check out a video of the ceremony below. When asked about receiving the key, Araya stated:

“I think it’s awesome. I’m kind of speechless, I don’t what to say. They’re probably gonna change the locks when they give me the key. (Laughs) It’s an honour. It leaves me speechless. I don’t have a reply. I’m more speechless than anything. It’s not something I expected. It’s cool. That’s never happened before. You see other people receive rewards like that, but usually it’s people of political status or someone that’s really done something for the community or done something important. I’m excited. I don’t know what to expect. All I can say is: thank you. That’s about it.”
