Delain Posts Fourth “Hunter’s Moon” Track By Track Video For “Art Kills”

Delain have released a fourth track-by-track video, in which they discuss the track “Art Kills” from their upcoming Hunter’s Moon album, out on February 22nd via Napalm Records. You can check it out below.

Hunter’s Moon is the final part of a trilogy, that also includes Delain’s EP Lunar Prelude and album Moonbathers. The release includes four brand new studio tracks, ten live songs, and a Blu-ray disc of those live songs, filmed at Utrecht’s Tivoli venue, during Delain’s sold out Danse Macabre European tour in 2017 and featuring special guests including Nightwish’s Marco Hietala. Perfect for both old and new Delain fans, the release encapsulates their breathtaking live show and showcases their stunning stage production, as well as offering a taste of what’s to come from their next studio album, also due out in 2019.

Delain about the four new studio tracks: “Along with the live Blu-Ray are four new studio tracks. Two of these offer a preview of what we are working on for our new full length studio album, which we expect to release in 2019. ‘Masters Of Destiny’ is a dramatic, cinematic track, that we’re excited to shoot an equally dramatic video for this week. The title track ‘Hunter’s Moon’ has more of a catchy feel and will hopefully appeal to our fans featuring heavy riffs, orchestrations, a large chorus and as a novel feature, Timo’s screams. Our guitarists stepped to the forefront on this release, in writing ‘This Silence Is Mine’ (Timo Somers) and ‘Art Kills’ (Merel Bechtold). With fond live memories, classic and new sounds we’re excited to present Hunter’s Moon to the world!”

Marco Hietala (Nightwish) about the Danse Macabre Tour: ”I was really pleased to do the tour, because it gave me a chance to challenge myself in different surroundings and band dynamics. In the end it comes down to the same old but great thing. I love doing good shows with good people for good audiences. All for one and one for all!”

Delain about the live Blu-ray: “The Moonbathers tour has been a hell of a ride and the Danse Macabre shows were an absolute highlight. We are excited to share the footage of our show at Tivoli Vredenburg with you on this brand new Blu-Ray. It was great to finally perform all of our collaborations with Marco live, something our fans have been asking for for such a long time! Also gracing the stage were George Oosthoek who gave his signature sound to ‘Hands Of Gold’, and Elianne Anemaat who adorned ‘Scarlet’ with her beautiful cello tones. The Tivoli show had such an amazing atmosphere and was one of the highlights of our career. Plus a home match for some of us! We are thrilled to have this Blu-Ray as a physical souvenir of the night and we hope that our fans will enjoy it as much as we did.”

Hunter’s Moon is available in the following formats:

– CD + Blu-Ray Disc, including 6-page Digipack
– 2LP Gatefold Vinyl + Blu-Ray Disc
– Deluxe Box incl. CD + Blu-Ray Disc Digipak + poster flag + pendant + patch + lanyard/VIP pass

Blaze Bayley Announces Iron Maiden Anniversary Shows

Blaze Bayley, singer with Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999, announces that he will be playing a special Iron Maiden setlist at selected festival appearances in 2019. Choosing songs from his era with the band, these shows will celebrate 25 years since Blaze joined Iron Maiden. This will be the first and last opportunity to see such a setlist.

Blaze, who releases a new album and DVD, Live In France, on March 1st, and has just returned from a successful stint touring Latin America, sees this as the perfect opportunity to celebrate his time in Maiden which was such a positive experience and influence on his career as a whole.

Blaze has this to say, “25 years ago my great adventure with Iron Maiden began. It was a wonderful five years in my career and something I’m very proud of. Since then I have toured almost every year, and made 11 studio albums and three live albums. Recently, many fans have asked me to perform songs from the two albums I recorded with Iron Maiden, so this year to celebrate that magical time, I’m doing a full set of my favourite songs from the X-Factor and Virtual XI albums at festivals. My voice has developed and changed since my time as lead vocalist with Iron Maiden. Now I feel I’m singing better than ever, so I’m very excited about singing those old songs with the voice I have now.”

These festivals will feature a special Iron Maiden setlist from Blaze Bayley:

June 6 – Sweden Rock – Sweden
June 14 – Rock The Coast – Spain
July 27 – Headbangers Open Air – Germany
August 9 – Mannried Open Air – Switzerland
August 10 – Dark River Festival – Finland

The band at these shows will be Blaze’s regular touring and recording outfit taken from British band Absolva, plus Iced Earth bassist / Absolva guitarist Luke Appleton. The lineup is as follows:

Chris Appleton – guitar and backing vocals
Luke Appleton – guitar and backing vocals
Martin Mcnee – drums
Karl Schramm – bass and backing vocals

Chris Appleton adds, “Normally when we perform as Blaze’s band we are a four-piece including Blaze, so just myself on lead guitar and that really works for us. But for these Maiden sets, we think it’s really cool to bring in my brother Luke as second guitarist to enhance the Maiden feel. It’s an honour for us to play these songs with Blaze, increasingly recognised as an important chapter in Maiden’s history.”

Ketzer Reveals New Album “Cloud Collider” Details

On April 12th, German extreme metallers Ketzer will release their fourth full-length, “Cloud Collider,” via Metal Blade Records.

Looking on Ketzer’s musical history, change is what has always defined their sound. From thrashing riffs to atmospheric blackened tunes, Ketzer is a band that has always aimed to defy genres. So what can we expect on Cloud Collider? Nothing more than a ride on a storm cloud, followed by a soft breeze in your face and, finally, a cleansing rainfall. Ketzer’s fourth effort will surprise many as a shift into yet another direction, combining many of the band’s essential trademarks and carrying them one step further: Raging drum beats, harsh and powerfully thrashing riffs, as well as epic melodies that will haunt you long after the last tone has faded away. After years of intense work, Ketzer have created an album that can only be described as a milestone in their career and a clean break from all expectations: this album is a storm.

For three years now, Ketzer has been working on something new, and the result is something new indeed: somehow linking all trademarks essential to the sound of Ketzer, now and then, but taking it all one big step further. These new tunes might well be the strongest Ketzer songs to date. Recorded at Markus Stock’s infamous Klangschmiede Studio E as well as Laurent Teubls Sculpt Sound Studios in autumn 2018, the suitable visual expression for this new effort has been found by cover artist Adam Burke and illustrator Johannes Stahl.

Ketzer checked in with the following comment about Cloud Collider: “Lately, we have been possessed by storms. First there is a breeze, then the sky darkens: A sense of electric energy starts to fill the air. A sense of sheer power, building up, waiting to erupt. Cloud Collider will strike you like a force of nature. When recording an album after months of hard work, blood and sweat, it is always our greatest wish, accompanied by the most terrifying fears, that the recordings will be able to ‘catch’ the songs and their certain, special spark. When we hear the final result for the first time, we have to think: ‘THIS is how the next chapter must sound’. Only then, we can be satisfied. With all the more pride and joy we can now say about ‘Cloud Collider’, that both is the case, and it is without a single doubt! THIS is how Ketzer has to sound in 2019! It is new and it is old and it is everything. It is fast and it is slow and we just can’t wait to bring these songs to the stage. This album is a piece of work that we feel embodies all aspects that stand and stood for the sound of Ketzer now and then. An album that manages to still go one step further to form something new!”

The album’s first single, “No Stories Left”, comes with a special guest appearance by the legendary Proscriptor McGovern of Absu fame, who not only lent his striking voice to the track, but also added the following comment: “It is with inordinate honor to announce my co-vocalist appearance on ‘No Stories Left’: the first single to be issued on Ketzer’s upcoming album ‘Cloud Collider’. What I contemplate = I uproariously touch with voice. What I enter into imagination = I make myself one with; however, a tower can fall twice.”

Tracklisting:

1. The Machine
2. Keine Angst
3. Walls
4. Cloud Collider
5. Forever Death
6. The Wind Brings Them Horses
7. No Stories Left
8. This Knife Won’t Stay Clean Today

Gatekeeper Posts New Music Video “Grey Maiden” Online

Canadian true metal force Gatekeeper have debuted a music video for the title track from their new EP “Grey Maiden,” set for release on February 22nd via Cruz Del Sur Music. You can check it out below.

Featuring two brand-new compositions, a cover song and a track re-recorded from their first demo, Grey Maiden picks right up where the band’s acclaimed East Of Sun first full-length left off. The groundswell of support in North America and abroad – including the selling out of the vinyl and CD pressing of East Of Sun within six months – spurred Gatekeeper to satiate their ever-growing fanbase with a new release.

“We’ve been working harder and faster than ever since all of this started happening,” says guitarist and founding member Geoff Blackwell. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned from spending the past ten-plus years in bands, it’s that momentum is your greatest resource and you’ve gotta pour gasoline on the little fires that pop up in your career.”

According to Blackwell, Gatekeeper (who are rounded out by vocalist Jean-Pierre, lead guitarist Kenny Kroecher, bassist David Messier and drummer Tommy Tro) has performed more shows in 2018 than all other years of the band combined, which has started to influence their songwriting. While East Of Sun is considered by many fans to get only better with each passing listen, the songs on Grey Maiden are some of the band’s most immediate compositions to date. However, there are some twists afoot.

“The title track might be our best song yet,” notes Blackwell. “It’s got a massive chorus, intricate vocal lines and catchy, pummelling riffs. We re-recorded the song ‘Tale Of Twins’, which is an old favorite that we’ve been playing lately. It’s finally gotten the recording and performance quality that the song deserves! JP did a great job with the singing on this one.

“‘Moss’ is a big departure from our other material,” he continues. “It’s a soft, finger-picked acoustic ballad featuring a lilting guitar pattern inspired by traditional folk music with fantasy-tinged lyrics. We also brought in a guest violinist to fill in the gaps. It’s much different than anything else we’ve done, but I think it makes perfect sense for Gatekeeper. Lastly, we covered an obscure Nwobhm song by a band named Tredegar called ‘Richard III’. They’re a very cool, but forgotten band from Wales who had ex-members of Budgie in their ranks. They were a very early example of epic metal and we decided that it would be a good match for us. Kenny and I took some liberties with the guitar arrangement.”

Gatekeeper’s future plans include a tour of Europe in support of “Grey Maiden,” including spots on key festivals such as Hell Of Hammaburg, Swordbrothers and Up The Hammers. In addition to more live dates in their home territory of Canada, Gatekeeper will buckle down and get to work on their second LP, which, according to Blackwell, will feature material contributed by the entire band. But, before the calendar jumps over to 2019, some reflection of 2018 is warranted, a year that saw Gatekeeper emerge as one of the best new traditional metal hopefuls in recent memory.

“Obviously we all hoped the album would do well and I figured that we’d make a few sales and play some fun shows here and there,” closes Blackwell. “But, I absolutely never expected us to sell out the first vinyl and CD pressing so quickly. That’s the kind of stuff that usually happens to other people. The outpouring of support from our new friends and fans on social media and streaming platforms like YouTube has been huge, too.”

Voivod, Animals as Leaders plus others added to Brutal Assault line-up

The only predictable thing about Canadian cosmic-metal warriors Voivod is that they will forever be unpredictable. On the warpath for more than 35 years, Voivod have pushed their sound relentlessly forward, constructing imaginative musical realms with each endeavor. They literally changed the face of thrash metal in the ‘80s, forged new prog-metal ground in the ‘90s, and kept up with changing times and lineups in the 2000s with fresh, inspired music and they’re back with a new album The Wake, which keeps pushing the limits!

Appearing in 2002, even before the rebirth of thrash metal scene worldwide, Violator was formed with the purpose of rescuing the spontaneity and anger that seemed forgotten in the metal scene. Coming from the center Brazil, Brasilia, Violator is one of the most intense South American bands and after years of waiting, they will finally thrash Brutal Assault! Doing so they will be joined by masked Swedish crossover deviants Dr. Living Dead and legendary veterans of Boston HC scene Slapshot! Ensiferum are true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal and with their latest output Two Paths they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre, so it was about a time they returned to Brutal Assault!

Polish death machine Decapitated is back with a bang! Their new album Anticult highlights just how vital have remained two decades deep into their career. They have long been undeniable masters of their craft and they are expanding their parameters with this album, which should elevate the band’s profile beyond the death metal realm in which it has dominated for years. And now they’re coming for the Brutal Assault crowd! And speaking of technical death metal, of all the amazing technical death metal bands out there, very few can write memorable catchy songs with extreme technicality like French killers Gorod. Get ready for intelligent, deftly crafted flights of musicianship…that will rip your head off!Sometimes, a band’s music registers just as seismically on an emotional wavelength as it does on a sonic spectrum. And one of those unique bands are Animals as Leaders, who re imagine, reinterpret, and refresh instrumental prog, experimental metal, modern jazz, alternative, and even world music to a point where the reaction becomes primal. Consistently delivering a captivating show, their show will surely be one of the musicianship highlights of the festival.

New York’s Car Bomb detonate a vicious blast of wildly technical and progressive modern metal. The Long Island quartet’s attack is relentless and suffocating: vicious jazz-inspired blasts shift into mechanistic, canyon-wide grooves. Schizophrenic, whisper-to-a-scream vocals seem to spiral out of control, only to snap back lock-step into the churning assault. Make sure to witness their Brutal Assault debut! Progressive Swedes Letters from the Colony had proven that they could marry various elements of death metal, metalcore and jazz into a complex hybrid and produce something strangely familiar yet truly original. And this list finished with Chinese atmospheric black metal Zuriaake.
