Gatekeeper Posts New Music Video “Grey Maiden” Online

Canadian true metal force Gatekeeper have debuted a music video for the title track from their new EP “Grey Maiden,” set for release on February 22nd via Cruz Del Sur Music. You can check it out below.

Featuring two brand-new compositions, a cover song and a track re-recorded from their first demo, Grey Maiden picks right up where the band’s acclaimed East Of Sun first full-length left off. The groundswell of support in North America and abroad – including the selling out of the vinyl and CD pressing of East Of Sun within six months – spurred Gatekeeper to satiate their ever-growing fanbase with a new release.

“We’ve been working harder and faster than ever since all of this started happening,” says guitarist and founding member Geoff Blackwell. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned from spending the past ten-plus years in bands, it’s that momentum is your greatest resource and you’ve gotta pour gasoline on the little fires that pop up in your career.”

According to Blackwell, Gatekeeper (who are rounded out by vocalist Jean-Pierre, lead guitarist Kenny Kroecher, bassist David Messier and drummer Tommy Tro) has performed more shows in 2018 than all other years of the band combined, which has started to influence their songwriting. While East Of Sun is considered by many fans to get only better with each passing listen, the songs on Grey Maiden are some of the band’s most immediate compositions to date. However, there are some twists afoot.

“The title track might be our best song yet,” notes Blackwell. “It’s got a massive chorus, intricate vocal lines and catchy, pummelling riffs. We re-recorded the song ‘Tale Of Twins’, which is an old favorite that we’ve been playing lately. It’s finally gotten the recording and performance quality that the song deserves! JP did a great job with the singing on this one.

“‘Moss’ is a big departure from our other material,” he continues. “It’s a soft, finger-picked acoustic ballad featuring a lilting guitar pattern inspired by traditional folk music with fantasy-tinged lyrics. We also brought in a guest violinist to fill in the gaps. It’s much different than anything else we’ve done, but I think it makes perfect sense for Gatekeeper. Lastly, we covered an obscure Nwobhm song by a band named Tredegar called ‘Richard III’. They’re a very cool, but forgotten band from Wales who had ex-members of Budgie in their ranks. They were a very early example of epic metal and we decided that it would be a good match for us. Kenny and I took some liberties with the guitar arrangement.”

Gatekeeper’s future plans include a tour of Europe in support of “Grey Maiden,” including spots on key festivals such as Hell Of Hammaburg, Swordbrothers and Up The Hammers. In addition to more live dates in their home territory of Canada, Gatekeeper will buckle down and get to work on their second LP, which, according to Blackwell, will feature material contributed by the entire band. But, before the calendar jumps over to 2019, some reflection of 2018 is warranted, a year that saw Gatekeeper emerge as one of the best new traditional metal hopefuls in recent memory.

“Obviously we all hoped the album would do well and I figured that we’d make a few sales and play some fun shows here and there,” closes Blackwell. “But, I absolutely never expected us to sell out the first vinyl and CD pressing so quickly. That’s the kind of stuff that usually happens to other people. The outpouring of support from our new friends and fans on social media and streaming platforms like YouTube has been huge, too.”

Self-Titled New Album Available For Streaming

New Jersey metallers Symetria don’t just play old school influenced metal, the band lives and breathes it. Remember the first time you blew your windows out by blasting Anthrax’s “Fisful of Metal” or scared your neighbor’s dog with the sheer volume at which you played Overkill’s “Feel the Fire”?? That’s exactly what Symetria is throwing at you.

Symetria will release their self-titled record via Tripsquad Records on September 29 2017. The record can be heard in full over at this location.

Old school metal never died, it went back to it’s home in New Jersey, where it belongs. The land of Method of Destruction (M.O.D.), TT Quick, Overkill and legendary metal label, Megaforce Records, the genre is safe once again after flailing about aimlessly for the better part of the last two decades.

Rising to the top of the current throng of hopefuls is newcomers Symetria. While the Garden State quintet may be fresh out of the box, the wealth of talent and the ability to deliver within their ranks put them a step ahead of the competition is there. Core members Vince Santonastaso and Kevin Gust met through a Craigslist ad and after playing covers from the likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Metallica, Santonastaso knew there must be more to life. Guitarist Cust followed him out the door and gave an old friend of his, Fernando Carrera a call, who came on board shortly after. The search for a drummer began and Blair Smith was quickly found on Bandmix, solidifying the initial Symetria lineup.

The band spent the fall of 2016 writing and working up a live show, playing their first gig at a Toys for Tots benefit in November of that year to critical praise across the board. Santonastaso recalls, “Kevin’s wife overheard someone in the audience talking about us and he seemed to be blown away, according to her. The fact that it was a complete stranger solidified the fact that we were on to something.”

Before long the band had gotten in touch with former M.O.D. guitarist Tim McMurtrie – an old acquaintance of Vince’s – who had just formed a label called Tripsquad Records. Symetria wound up being his first signing. Entering Trax East in South River, NJ with producers Eric Rachel (Burnt by the Sun, M.O.D.) and McMurtie, the band set to work, laying down eight songs in seven days. “We definitely learned a lot working with Eric and Tim,“ says bassist Fernando Carrera. “It was a fantastic experience and definitely an honour to be in the same room with those guys. After recording, I realized I had learned three things: my “true” bass lines, to be patient and that I can eat an eggplant-Parmesan sandwich as long as my entire arm in one take,” he adds, laughing. While second guitarist James Soto had technically joined just as they began tracking, it wasn’t until after the band had stepped away from the studio that Soto was able to jump in with both feet. “James met us and we initially practiced a few times with him before we recorded,” Vincent says. “While we were in the studio he was going over his parts and by the time we were finished recording he was more than ready to be a full time member.”

When it comes to their self-titled album, Symetria play with the confidence and power of a band who have several years under its belt rather than a small handful. The track “Flying High” brings up the ugliness of addiction. More specifically, Kevin Cust’s addiction and recovery. “All Kevin did was tell me what the song was supposed to reflect and as soon as he did, I just ran with it,” while “Venial Sin” is about the 7 Deadly Sins, “I just used Latin terms for the sins themselves for a cool effect,“ tells Santonastaso. “A venial sin is a lesser sin, I chose the name because I wanted to draw attention to the sad truth that so much of our lives have become trivial now and so little really has meaning anymore. We’re just lost souls wandering around destroying ourselves blindly” and “Too Late” calls for immediate action for whatever it is you intend to do in life. “While there’s a tomorrow on the calendar there’s no guarantee you’re going to see it so stop procrastinating.”

The band’s name, Symetria, is actually the Polish translation for symmetry – a literal translation would be “balanced and intelligent” and that’s exactly how the members of the band see themselves and their vision for the future.

The track listing is:

1 – Wakening
2 – Flying High
3 – Vinial Sin
4 – All The Same
5 – Stomp
6 – Time
7 – Too Late
8 – Symetria

Having a good time playing music is what it’s always been about since day one, and that’s what the ‘Graveyard Classics‘ albums are to me… a good fucking time! On this trip down memory lane, we cover songs from Judas Priest and Iron Maiden; the two greatest metal bands of all time. Ray Alder from Fates Warning did a guest background vocal appearance on ‘Invader’, our first single. Pentagram Announces U.S. Tour Dates, Working On Album

Victor Griffin is returning to Pentagram for live shows and a new studio album. After taking a break from Pentagram to bring Victor Griffin’s In-Graved around the world, the doom metal guitar god returns to his main fold.

The realigned lineup featuring the Liebling/Griffin duo backed by Greg Turley on bass and Sean Saley on drums will embark on a tour of the West Coast area in February and March. When not touring the world, the band will be working hard on a new album for release in 2014.

Victor Griffin comments: “Time continues to teach me to expect the unexpected and never say never…at least to some things. After years of investment in Pentagram and in my relationships with Bobby Liebling, nephew Greg Turley of course, and more recently to drummer Sean Saley…the door has opened to hit the road again with my favorite dysfunctional band. We’ll be starting out in the Pacific Northwest in late February, with a new album in the works plus a full tour calendar for the rest of the year and beyond. Until then…until the end!”

Vocalist and founding member Bobby Liebling adds: “Victor Griffin and I are brothers and it’s a joy to be working side-by-side again. As we’ve stated before, the door will always be open for him and he’ll always be an important part of Pentagram’s Ram Family. It’s great to have my partner in crime saddled up next to me on stage and the studio. He’s truly one of a kind and we’re ecstatic to create another classic Pentagram album!”

Pentagram would also like to extend a huge thank you to Matt Goldsborough, who’s done a killer job filling in live during Victor’s absence during the past year.
