Dark Buddha Rising’s “II” Set To Drop Via Neurot Recordings This March

Prepare your mind, body, and the deepest recesses of your soul: the black gates that Dark Buddha Rising unlocked a decade ago with “I”, open further in 2018, as the band announce the “II” EP, due for release via Neurot Recordings on March 23rd, 2018. “II” continues to traverse spiritual planes, exposing a vortex with their sonic calls from beyond.

Sample new sounds with this immersive video below:

For ten years, the Finnish band has convened in the now-famous Wastement studio space, set below their home city of Tampere, Finland, to roil in the sounds of the underground, to meet dark spirits, to breathe in time with rhythmic pulses sent from the skies, the stars, and the very dirt around them.

On the surface, the band emits the blackest of psychedelia. Deep down, their sounds are forged in the blue fires of the ancients; exhalations of gods, goddesses and demons alike. Of this new offering, V. Ajomo notes, “To drain our sonic temple, we wanted to record the new material which was made for 2016 shows in order to proceed towards the unknown with open minds and hearts. After the cleansing, we initiated our chamber with ambient meditation and opened the portals of inspiration for our future work.”

“II” sees Dark Buddha Rising return to its purest incarnation: J.Rämänen on drums, P. Rämänen on bass, and V. Ajomo on guitar, J. Saarivuori on synths and M. Neuman on main vocals. “We have done a full cycle of the orbit and now is the time for gravitational slingshot towards the new dimensions in sound, deliverance and vision,” says Ajomo.

The EP’s A-side was recorded and mixed in Space Junk Studio by K.Nyyssönen and B-side was recorded in Wastement by Dark Buddha Rising and mixed by S. Tamminen.

Riverside Announces New European 2017 Tour Dates

After recently announcing two special (and now completely sold out) comeback tribute shows in the band’s hometown of Warsaw, Poland for February, prog group Riverside is delighted to announce a next European tour for April/May 2017. The band checked in to say

“2017 must be a better year. And we have to come back to life. But we won’t, unless we come back to the stage… so it is our great pleasure to inform you that Riverside will go back to playing live this year.

“After two very special evenings in February, which, for obvious reasons, are going to be unique and one of a kind, we have planned two legs of a special ‘Towards the Blue Horizon’ tour. The first one will begin in April and May. The second one will start in the autumn and we’ll visit more European countries.

“During ‘Towards the Blue Horizon’ tour we will play in a new live line-up with a guest guitarist who will make our music sound the way it should, not only because he’s a great musician but, most of all, because he’s got the kind of modesty and humility about him which has always been very important to us on stage. Additionally, we’re going to present a lot of compositions which we have not played live before. Our concerts will also be filled with emotions we haven’t felt before. Together with you, we want to dive into this and make each composition sound more mighty than ever.

“We’re becoming a different band, more mature, more serious, more experienced. Piotr is gone, but he will always be with us and we are still a live band. Which we’re going to prove soon during our ‘Towards the Blue Horizon’ tour Remember, ‘This is not the end, this is not the time.'”

Superjoint Posts “Caught Up In The Gears Of Application” Music Video

This past Friday, Superjoint unleashed the debauched “Caught Up In The Gears Of Application” full-length album (still streaming in full here).

The band’s first proper studio offering in over a decade, the thirty-eight-minute punisher spews forth an acrimonious crossover of hardcore punk, metal, and uncompromising, antagonistic, New Orleans-style angst (check out our review).

A new video for “Caught Up In The Gears Of Application” was captured at various locations in Louisiana including the historic district of Old Kenner, the Blue Nile in New Orleans, and the Housecore compound.

The clip was directed by Kate Richardson courtesy of Housecore Records, and shot and edited by Mike Holderbeast with production by Carolyn Babauta. Elaborates Superjoint’s Philip H. Anselmo cryptically, “The video is supposed to be as ridiculously abstract as the song itself. But regardless, it makes its ridiculous point(s) dreadfully well.”

Trojans Posts “Dead Eyed Stare” Music Video

Sydney metalcore group Trojans today releases a video for new single “Dead Eyed Stare.” The track will be available for purchase online on November 25th.

“Dead Eyed Stare” is a song about depression and the lives of the people who suffer every day with the horrible affliction. The track’s lyrics address the sufferer’s constant thoughts of suicide and life’s monotony – and the will and sheer strength required to beat it.

The video follows main character Dosey (actor Dosey Smith) waking up in an abandoned hospital. Being chased by Death (actress Rachel Greenwood). Dosey becomes distraught after not being able to escape the hospital until he sees Life (actress Esther Link) walk past.

He then follows Life, who guides him through and out of the Hospital. Death keeps trying to tempt him to stay but he finds the strength to break free and finally find his way out to find his Peace.

Directed, filmed and edited by Jacob Pattinson, the clip was shot with full permission and access to the location – an abandoned mental hospital in the Blue Mountains – The Queen Victoria sanitarium.

Ahab Comments On “The Ichthyologist” Album Art Similarities

Ahab has issued the following statement about people questioning the similarities between the cover from upcoming album “The Boats Of The Glen Carrig” and Giant Squid’s “The Ichthyologist” release:

“Quite some messaging going around with the guys of Giant Squid (a San Fransisco based band) about our album artwork. They thought, our cover artwork of ‘The Boats Of The Glen Carrig’ is too close to the one of a re-issue of ‘The Ichthyologist.’ Unfortunately we didn’t know the band or the cover. That being said: We still do not think there’s much more similarity than a hand being turned into a sea-animal (two different one’s btw). Anyway: We hope this settles the argument, cause we (and I guess also Giant Squid) do not like bitching with fellow artists. Now it’s up to you, what to think of it.”

Giant Squid also commented: “Been talking with Aahab, who say they, and the artist, we’re officially and completely unfamiliar with both Giant Squid, and ‘The Ichthyologist.’ So there you go. Let’s chalk it up to crazy coincidence, kindred spirits thinking alike, if you will.

“I love Ahab. One of my favorite bands going today. ‘Divinity of Oceans’ is almost perfect and is one of the only albums from a band I’ve just spontaneously acclaimed out of the blue on this page. ‘The Giant’ was great too, and I’m sure this new album will crush. And, as an illustrator, that album art is amazingly well done, truly beautiful. Except… eeesh, that sure reminds me of a cover of a certain landmark album by a certain band… Anyone else feeling me on this? Seems I’m not the only one calling it out in the comments. Eh, whatever I guess.

“Remember that one time we wrote an album about the New Jersey shark attacks, and then another band did it two years later. Yeah, me too. Sigh…”
