Periphery Reveals New Album “Periphery IV: Hail Stan” Details; Posts New Music Video “Blood Eagle” Online

Periphery will release their fifth album, “Periphery IV: Hail Stan,” on April 5th via their own 3DOT Recordings. A music video for the album’s first single, “Blood Eagle,” directed by Jeremy Danger & Travis Shinn, can be found below.

Guitar player Mark Holcomb said of the six-minute track: “We’ve known since the late stages of P4 writing sessions that ‘Blood Eagle’ would be the first song we released. It’s an unrelenting song that, even while we were writing it, we could say to ourselves: ‘We NEED to play this live.’ The original demo was vastly different, and through the songwriting process, it took on this kind of violent, explosive nature that is always hard to synthesize. That energy excited us and we knew it’d be the first thing we’d let you all hear.”

“Periphery IV: Hail Stan” marks two significant firsts for the band: the first Periphery release on their recently formed label, 3DOT Recordings, as well as a change in the way they approached writing and recording. “We finally spent a year on a record,” explains guitar player/programmer Jake Bowen. “We’ve never been able to do that. The quality and pacing of the work show we took our time with this one. That’s an important note about this. We really got to do everything we wanted to do in the space we had to do it.” Mark adds, “I think you can hear the adventurous intent behind much of this material as a result. We’re all the happiest we’ve ever been with a release, and it’s no coincidence. Can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

“Periphery IV: Hail Stan” is the first release to follow the band’s 2017 Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Metal Performance” category, for “Periphery III: Select Difficulty” album opener “The Price Is Wrong”. The 2016 album tallied 35 million cumulative streams and marked their third consecutive debut in the Top 25 of the Billboard Top 200. It represented the apex of a tireless decade-long grind. In between the touring, endorsements and appearances, they also launched a summer camp of their own, Periphery Summer Jam.

2. Blood Eagle
3. CHVRCH BVRNER

Blood Eagle Parts With Bassist Jeppe “Panzer” Skouv

In connection with the planning and preparation of Blood Eagle’s debut album and future plans, the Danish death metal group has parted ways with bassist Jeppe “Panzer” Skouv. Due to conflicting schedules with Myrkur, Jeppe is unable to be involved in any activity relating to Blood Eagle.

Guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie and drummer Morten Tåsk Hansen elaborate: “Panzer has been a friend and bandmate since he joined. We’ve toured together in our previous bands (Mnemic, Ranchy, and The Psyke Project) and shared experiences that only few bands get to do. We’re very thankful for this and wish Panzer all the best in the future. Skål i GT!”

Added Panzer: “It has been a great experience to be part of Blood Eagle and I wish Michael, Franz, Mircea and Molle, everyone involved with the band all the best on the continued journey. Skål i GT!”

The progress of the recording sessions for Blood Eagle’s debut album are moving according to plan. The band has tracked both drums and guitars for 10 grind-crushing death metal songs at Antfram Studios with Tue Madsen (Meshuggah, Rob Halford, The Haunted etc.), and next month will utilize the services of former member Mikael “Gammelfar” Ehlert, who will join the band as a full time studio-member. Blood Eagle comments:

“We are happy to announce that our good and old friend Gammelfar, has re-joined the ranks (in the studio) for plowing some great death metal bass. Once the bass tracks will be shoveled on the recording, we will hand everything over to Tue and Michael, for vocal tracking, which we expect to commence sometime in August, followed by a quick mix and mastering. As far as live shows, we will only focus on the album in 2016 and will commence touring with a live session bass player (yeah we are keeping it Satyricon-style-hired-guns-only) in 2017.”

Blood Eagle Parts With Mikeal “Gammelfar” Ehlert, Recording New Album

Denmark-based outfit Blood Eagle has issued the following announcement about lineup changes and recording a new album:

“We must apologize, it’s been a few months since our last concrete update. First up, we have a line-up change. Unfortunately we have to announce that Mikeal ‘Gammelfar’ Ehlert will be leaving Blood Eagle to focus full time on his stoner rock project IAmFired. There are absolutely no hard feelings at all, as we remain good friends and drinking buddies. We are just sad to see him go, but we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours!

“On a more postive note, we are excited to welcome Jeppe ‘Panzer’ Skouv filling out the Gammelfar shoes. We’ve known Panzer for many years, he is a great bass player and friend, with roots from the noise/hardcore/metal environment. Some of you probably know that he has been handling the bass duties in Danish band hardcore-noise act The Psyke Project, which are now extinct.

“Second, for all of you who have been asking us about a full length album, here it is. We are happy to announce that we will be entering the Antfarm Studios in September with producer Tue Madsen (Behemoth, The Haunted, Halford) to begin recording our debut album for a 2016 release via an undisclosed label.”
